My pet theory is that what we call ASMR is tied to grooming behavior that most primates seem to do. What we feel as tingles are our hairs standing up to facilitate grooming. That’s why personal care videos are particularly good at eliciting ASMR.
Man... is something as intelligent as he is really a "wild" animal anymore, especially with how long he has been in contact with humans? He just looks so at peace and comfortable around you... what a bond he has formed.
Pet store in my town when I was a kid had a monkey. They kept it behind glass, and people would tease it and bang on the glass. Seeing videos like this all these years later makes me feel sorry for that little guy, he was missing the physical contact he needed as much as air or food.
Talking from experience, it might sting/burn a little bit when you pull back/rip the cuticles as usual but the strength in such small monkeys is almost none, its very difficult for them to be able to pull them back far enough to cause actual damage and pain. I can't speak for him but that's at least my experience with it

Have to ask, does it ever hurt when monkey pulls skin off around your nails? Sometimes when grooming ourselves we tear the skin a bit around our nails, and make ourselves sore. Another question though, who is Ray and who is Thabo.

They only get aggressive if they have a reason to. That being if he abuses the monkey, the monkey gets jealous of something, the monkey isn’t being fed, it’s angry, etc. There is always a trigger that makes the monkey snap and go ape-shit (get it?). And the bad cases only happen with chimpanzees which are a lot more volatile and unpredictable when they are mad or what makes them mad. But even they are pretty chill. As long as you don’t make the monkey mad or get close to wild monkeys with a domestic monkey you should be fine…i think…
