I just started as an assistant associate in corporate law. A lot of time is spent reading and responding to e-mails, legal research for partners, making templates for other associates etc. I also do a bit of due diligence (only when a deal is going), and then i add my findings to a due diligence rapport that the partners send out to the clients. The conference calls is spot on some days you can have meetings for 2-3 hours where you mainly just listen and write notes.
Thanks for giving more context to the transactional side, Jakob! I never understood exactly what corporate associates did all day, but it sounds like it's not all that different from litigation associates! 😆
Totally! It's so fun to focus on the performative aspects, but those happened only about 1-3 times a year when I was practicing -- the other stuff took up 99% of the time!
Thank you Angela. I have an MBA and I have a background in Investment Banking, so Transactional Law is what I am very interested in. But I have also been a victim of a very strange and very bizarre legal situation which occurred in China back in 2006 which has absolutely no true legal basis. So that is a situation which I am looking to sue the hell out these people involved ! You have given me 2 places to start. Thanks!

I loved this breakdown! people have a misconception of what lawyers actually do.
