Keyword : retaining length!! How to use protective style to retain health? Avoid the following:
BREAKAGE
- shedding vs breakage (watch the video to understand the difference)
- braiding too tightly - ->pulls hair out
- braiding hair too small
- rushing to take down the hair without TLC
- not careful detangling in a rush
OVERMANIPULATION
- using heat before braiding = overmanipulation
- braiding hair too small
- being too rough with your hair
LACK OF HAIRCARE
- not tieing your hair at up at night / not sleeping on satin pillowcase
- not moisturizing
- cutting your own hair
- leaving hair braided for too long

🙄 “the tighter the better” NOT true. Let me tell you the last time I let someone else braid my hair (let alone TOUCH my hair) was when I got my hair braided about 3 years ago. I lost soooooo much hair, the breakage was insane and even after I had to cut about 3 inches off. My length went from mid-back length to shoulder length and my edges were sparse!

I protective style by doing twists or flat twists, and I wash my hair every week. I make sure that my ends aren't brushing against my clothes. Short term protective styles are good for me.

I've been braiding for over 20 years and i'm learning new ways to manage my braids (i'm addicted to braids now) I now live in southern Arizona and hydrating is a must plus a water filter. I'm looking forward to my next take down day. It will be self care and i'm so excited!

I do corn rows and leave it for weeks. I use thin conditioners once in a while in my hair while having the corn rows on. Other times I pour water on it then use leave in conditioner and deal with oils. I also oil my scalp. I’ve seen so much growth!

About to get box braids in March going try to wear them for 3 months so listening to this advice

I agree with 99.9 of this video, I have a hard time with taking out the shedding hair before I wash it in the shower, I detangle before and after I pre-poo, but after my shower my tub is still full of hair.😪

Hey girl! During summer 2019 I did Havana twist because I was studying for the bar and I kept this style from July to October. My sister in law did the twist so loose that all my hair was out and not protective at all but it was my last concern. But when I took the style out my hair was completely ruined with split ends all over the length of my hair. I'm trying to cut little by little but I can't see the end of it and short hair doesn't fit me as it does to you. I just achieved bras strap length before the style and its been a year and a half that I'm cutting my hair again and again every 2 months... Any advice to help me end this curly nightmare?
I used to have bad build up when I was new to protective styles , using regular cream leave ends instead of spray

Question... you mentioned that if we put heat to our hair before braiding is over manipulating the hair.... What would you propose us black girls with 4C hair do?

Nice instructive videos 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾 I think should try to leave my hair out. Most of the time I have crochets for a month then unbraid them for 2 weeks and then back to crochet. This year I’m gonna try to rock my own hair cause a girl needs her edges to grow.@jenn jackson

Washing in braids you mean? If overdone, you can be over manipulation but it all comes down to your methods. HOW are you doing it?

My hair grows better when I leave it for 3 months but it's thicker. I tried leaving it for 2months and 1 month and my hair stayed the same length
