I think it is unfortunate that plant based doctors don't seem to count Dr. Hyman as "part of the movement". Dr. Hyman is the bridge that links the plant based diet and longevity to reality and attainability. Everyone and anyone could eat like Dr. Hyman and greatly enjoy their food and thier long life.

I have listened to videos with people from 'Blue Zone' countries saying they were misrepresented and that they ate animal food daily: Eggs, pork, pork fat, cheese. When you ask them about eating meat, they generally perceive meat as being beef only.
According to Paleontologist Dr Bill Schindler, they also ate nose to tail.

Fun fact: Hong Hong has THE HIGHEST average life-span in the world, and also has THE HIGHEST meat consumption per capita in the world. Some people who are reading this may not like hearing this. So just to be clear, I'm not pushing an agenda or a point of view, I'm simply presenting easily verifiable information. If you Google "Kong Kong Life Expectancy Meat Consumption", you will find this: "For reference, Hong Kong consumes more meat per person (695 grams per day or about 1.5 pounds) than any other nation, with a life expectancy of 84.3 years, the world's highest. Meanwhile, India has the second lowest per capita meat consumptionin the world, and the average life expectancy is 68.3 years."... They would eat ruminant animal meats and fatty fish if it were available. The blue zone people who ate grains and such did so only IN SEASON and only when there were not alternatives. They probably would have lived longer if they ate fewer fruits and plants and again would have done so if they were not so deprived of high quality grass raised/fed ruminant protein, organs and natural clean fats. They activated the human body's longevity metabolic pathways by attaining decent NAD/NADH pathways - caloric restriction and good omega-3/omega-6 ratios.

      @FLJD427 5 лет назад

@@nickgregoris You don't get it do you? I predicted that the Blue Zone people who ate higher levels of plants and legumes would have lived net longer had they had the wherewithal (financial, time and habitat) to eat more natural meats, fats and organs. We now know that factors contributing to longevity and health are much more complex than originally imagined. For example NAD/NADH ratio is a big factor in the longevity outcome and this can be driven by both a carb and a protein/fats rich nutrition. The frequency of mTOR activation is also a driver. Just because some are long lived does not mean they ever came close to attaining optimum quality of life (high strength to weight ratio, high reproductive function, stamina, balance, higher VO2 Max etc.). So the studies that this "observer" made are just that - observations of how they lived and ate on a presumption that living to their age was the gold standard. But long life that falls short of its optimum quality and duration is at best only a relatively good standard/benchmark relative to the mediocre lifestyle the obserbver came from. i posit from "the science" that these blue zone people could have done much better both in longevity and quality of life ("optimized") had they eaten more good meats and fats and less plants that are loaded with bio-toxins. The plants don't want us eating them (or their children esp - seeds) anymore so than the animals do. Food for thought.

    • @nickgregoris

@@FLJD427 you are saying that fruits and plants are not as healthy for you as meats... I called you out on that.. that's all I did. But I mean, do you approve of the massai and Inuits? They weren't eating all those toxic fruits and vegetables but their lifespans can't compare to the plant eaters... What say you?

You can't just cook the beans, you have to seriously boil them. Also, you'll get the best results (pun intended) from soaking the beans for several hours, and then changing the soaking water to new water and soaking them for several hours more. (Google how long to soak.) Then boil the hell out of them. Also, some beans are worse than others. And, start by eating small portions of say only a tablespoon. Then gradually eat larger servings and your body should get used to them.

I started looking to my genetics and my grandmother who lived to be 98. She was from Europe and ate a "Mediterranean" diet, which included extra virgin olive oil, lots of vegetables and fruit and it included rice, potatoes, bread, pasta, beans and legumes (these two mainly in soups - so as an example a can of chickpeas in a pot of soup) cheese, eggs, nuts, anchovies, sardines, fish, some chicken, some pork and a bit of beef once in a while...mostly on special occasions. Her diet was most importantly primarily a whole food diet with the most processed being extra virgin olive oil while cooking and on salads, bread (not made with commercial yeast) pasta, cheese and a bit of sugar and flour for baking.
Twice a week she fasted all day and ate mainly fish, rice and vegetables for dinner (it was for religious reasons). MOST importantly, she was surrounded by family, had an overwhelming devotion to God, walked every day...she was not on ANY medications. She did not abuse food (she used to say if I feel like sleeping instead of going for a walk after I eat, then I’ve eaten too much) alcohol (she would always say pour me just two fingers) and she did not smoke.
What worked for her may not work for everyone or anyone for that matter. We are not all cut from the same cloth, it seems that common sense has gone out the window...but it’s hard to argue that eating less processed food and more whole foods is a bad thing.
There is a grey area and that’s where most of us fit. Experiment, try an eating plan for 3 to 6 months, see how you feel, go to your doctor for blood work. Food can be medicine or poison. We need to be our own scientist. Our bodies are complex and beautiful things and very individual.

He's clearly not knowledgeable enough or pushing the vegan agenda. Bill Gates and others are making millions from the vegan bandwagon with the fake cheeses and fake meats.
Dr. Hyman you need to vet your guests better for what agenda they're espousing and the points they're going to be speaking because there are many confusing and discordant notes coming from your channel. There are so many good studies on channels like 'Low carb down under' etc plus documentaries on the Blue Zones and Nomads in the Tundra regions etc. You need to evaluate and provide your own insights using these sources, not being hijacked by such "researchers" with vegan or other agendas. And if the talk goes sideways please look at not posting or providing your own insights at the end or beginning etc. Please pay heed and avoid such corporations if they reach out to you. They seem to be using your subscriber base to their advantage.
Edit: he's not a researcher, but a reporter apparently.

I disagree completely on the grains and beans/"legumes"! I went While Food Plant Based Vegan for 11 months and my digestive system never "shifted". I actually got worse....

i had the same experience, i dont eat meat, just fish , but when i lower animal protein and up legumes and vegetables, my gut wrecks up right away. there is a sweet spot for me with animal protein eggs fish and cheese and vegetables. i can tollerate nuts just fine but beans only in very small quantities.

As every other vegan you mean? Plant foods are fine to some extent but you really need to properly prepare the food and predigest/ferment it before consuming it in large quantities. However, I do think he's right that most of us are over consuming food and that's why we get sick - at least it's part of the problem.

I hear stories like yours more and more. Keto and intermittent fasting has worked for me for 6 years - I just had my arterial calcification score test done ($105 - not usually covered by insurance but I didn't care) and it was zero in all four areas, down from 30 years ago when I had this test done, so yes as you get older, you can heal. Yeah for high saturated fat and low carb. I eat lots of farm egg yolks and organic heavy cream, farm lard, coconut oil, etc. I used to have gallbladder problems when I ate more carbs, even had a gallbladder attack and always had pressure under my right ribcage - I rarely feel it now. Saturated fat increases bile.

Did you remember to soak the beans overnight and cook the beans and drain the water etc? Because you need to do this to avoid the toxic lectins found in beans, if the beans are not cooked properly that could be the problem.

1x Ribeye steak gives you all the protein and amino acids you need and they are in a highly bio-available form.

What food is Okinawa famous for?
It's a sweet and savoury stir-fry made from eggs, tofu, and goya. Goya is bitter melon which is plentiful in Okinawa. Sliced pork is also added to this delicious dish, and sometimes if pork is not available, spam is used as a substitute.Jun 13, 2019

What kind of rice do Okinawans eat?
Although the traditional Japanese diet usually includes large quantities of rice, the traditional Okinawa diet consists of smaller quantities of rice; instead the staple is the purple-fleshed Okinawan sweet potato.

How much tofu do Okinawans eat?
Okinawans eat about eight times more tofu than Americans do today. Along with other soy products, tofu is renowned for helping to protect the heart. Apr 7, 2015
      ---
Probably due to the estrogen, as women under 40 also have protection for the heart due to estrogen. But this would surely be pure, homemade tofu, made from soy grown in chemical free soil etc without any additives.

All blue zones eat less meat or more based on their circumstance. 3 times a week seems a resonable amount, I would guess it could be 4 or 5 times very easily. I would take 3 as an average not as the maximum.
Its suspicious that there is no mention of portion size, cut of meat, fat content. There just was not enough detail in this interview.

The trouble with this advice is that a lot of people have an agenda to push and therefore bias their information and say it's a fact. There are vegan points of view and there are meat heavy points of view. Classic was how the U. S. culture was told that dairy products were the panacea back in the mid-century. I do agree however that both research and evidence does suggest that eating less translates into longevity.
However my questions include, what exactly are the downsides of eating small cold water fish?
Didn't people develop their large brains when they began to eat meat instead of mostly fruit?
How come beans are so great, since they are carb heavy, which turns into sugar? And, how could they have been eaten historically when they have to be collected in the wild and then cooked? Same for grains. Isn't it true, that if someone wants to say that people shouldn't eat meat, then it would be required to insist that beans and grains are mandatory to human health? Since without meat, obviously people would be protein deficient unless beans and grains were the replacement.
I think that this video is basically good information, however I also think that there is an agenda in play here too. Instead, the advice should be simply based on science.
