      Exactly the same with me 👍 I'm 47 now and I'm number one fan of them since I was 14, so we have a similar story/timeline concerning The Emperor's (The Cramps) of Rock & Roll! Cheers from Portugal mate.
      P.S. Also saw them live for only two times 👋👍. Unfortunately

    I thought Dave Kendall was Morrissey at the time. This is a cool interview. Lux and Ivy look great , and their playfulness comes out...."Bikini Girls" , of course , got censored for MTV , but , it was cool to see it here , and even on "Just Say Julie".

    • @pfordsq
      @pfordsq 10 лет назад +3

      THANK YOU, PAUL. It seems absurd , now , but , I paid even less attention to insanely overrated bands like The Smiths and The Cure , when The Cramps and The Ramones still walked the earth.

    Why can't they show interviews like these on TV anymore? Oh yeah, because the good music goes undiscovered and there's nothing but crap on the airways.

    This is like the third interview I've seen where the interviewer expects outlandish weirdness but gets down-to-earth weird self awareness from the cramps and ends up looking like a lame-o when they press them on their weirdness and just get straight up answers.

    Cock? Dave Kendall was the ONLY host on all of Mtv who actually knew and loved this music along with the rest of us fans. He wasn't a figurehead in a costume; he was a fan of these guys too.
    Anyone know what's become of Ivy?

    • @Gentlem1
      @Gentlem1 6 лет назад +12

      If you read this , mattokc , Ivy , by all accounts , is doing very well , but is not interested in resuming a music career , even on a considerably smaller scale. She remains a very private person , tho' a couple of recent photos have turned up . I've spoken to a few people who've seen her , and they all said she looks great and is in good apirits.

      Dave Kendall was the only host there was ever any good on 120 minutes. It's funny The nostalgia that everybody wants. Could never happen now just because of technology. It was loads of fun to it all the way until Sunday night to watch all this. If anything's dead it's anticipation.

    Have to admit I was more into the California ‘hardcore’ punk music in the 80’s, with the ‘superstrats’ and generally fast tempo. Like ST and Dead Kennedys. At this point I just love Poison Ivy’s style and attitude on guitar and try to pattern my own playing after her. Only in my second year so there is no comparison, but that’s who’s work I look to emulate. Guitarist for TSOL is another.

    when it comes to the Cramps vibe, the ONLY Charlie Feathers track that TRULY even NEARLY came near to a Cramps vibe was the 70s version of "jungle fever" Charlie did (mostly heard via the Andrew Weatherall lo-fi hi-fi LP compilations) WHAT A COUNTRY-FUNK TRIPPER!
    (THIS IS IT... it's more of a fucked up country vibe, but mentally/space-wise, it's right up there with the Cramps Balls! ruclips.net/video/ifDEcG109ts/видео.html )

    'Bikini girls with machine guns'. Interviewer," Where did you shoot that video?" I think Ivy missed the goddam awful pun. Or maybe not!

  • @TheBigMclargehuge
    @TheBigMclargehuge 3 года назад +2

    Bikini girls with Machine Guns was my first exposure to the cramps when I was a kid and I was not at all impressed. I'm pretty sure however if I saw or heard literally anything else by the cramps - especially creature from the black leather lagoon, which was contemporary to bikini girls, I would have been hooked. They put all their eggs in the wrong basket.

    to be honest, and i know the shit i'll get from fello fans for saying such, but the cramps seemed to strick to mundane formula rockabilly from, say Date With Elvis lp?
    even though, for eg "bikini girls is no doubt, and i agree, for all it matters, BUT pre-85 they were MORE than mere rockabilly, and psychobilly was trying a DESPERATE catch up to the cramps.
    but they were garage, psychedelic, rockabilly, pre-monks style, contemporary with The Fall (more than the meteors), and when u were on that boat, the sides rocked back and forth frighteningly, but you always got back to port.

      They became more Ramones formula later on. Yeah those early records were so great. And a combination of everything you said. The most underrated band from that time period and it sad say this. The flesh tones were a great band! I can't believe that they're not remembered more than what they are. it would have been great to have been in America and the touring circuit and the way everything was back then to see all these bands it would have been awesome.
