There was probably parent complaints of traumatizing children with the unexpected scary depiction of Atlantis.

I was a mechanic on that ride for 10 years. You would not believe what all it took to keep that thing running. Water and metal is not a good mix.

Not really it such a little drop when I ride it
Yea, the big drop sprinkles you, but that little dip soaks you and that’s because it’s not on a track, it just drops you straight in a pool of water so you dip down into the water more than you would on the big drop and the water travels into the boat easier, and then the last drop sprinkles you with water.
I rode this version of the ride for the first time, I didn't even know it had a story to it until my friend told me about their experience on the ride, it felt so..empty. Looking at older videos of it I wished I went on the older version before it became what it is today.

It was really cool. I think the only reason they changed it though was because of the constant technical issues. The ride was so unbelievably old so it dealt with a lot of issues until SeaWorld said screw it and renovated it
It was way better before. I’m upset they changed it. More of my childhood changed and ruined Lolol 😅😭

Rode this back in about 2005, the Medusa laughing before the drop was definitely great. You don't really realize how good 'theming' on a ride or coaster is until it's bad I guess
A storyline for a theme park ride is very important, when they turned off Allura aka the siren they took away the most important part in Journey to Atlantis. To be honest some theme park companies needs to stop listening to those overzealous parents. They need to bring back the Siren.
You forgot to mention the Beetlejuice music after things go ary on the ride before the plunge. My brother and I were on it and the passengers behind us had a good chuckle when we said the line in unison "Attention Kmart shoppers, welcome to Winter River! A museum for the natural greed. A monument for the poor business man. Come a little closer, step right up, test your strength!"
They should bring back the story, just tone it down and remove the statue of the siren
Tbh I missed the storytelling aswell, but however! The reason why they removed the effects and stuff is because they wanted to make it more kid freindlier allura aka the siren is still up but doesn’t pop out anymore ;(. Also they should’ve kept the storytelling instead they kept it as a crappier version also a tour !
I miss the storytelling behind this ride, it's what made me like it even more than the other SeaWorld parks :(

What about a new storyline, about 3 children learning a story, of a prince who got separated from a ship full of refugees, and a mermaid princess who made a deal with a kraken like wizard. A musical type like “The Little Mermaid meets Hercules” on Splash Mountain.
My grandma told me stories how she helped build this ride, I’ve never been on it, but it looks fun

I think she was trying to catch the magical golden sea horse that guided you to the city, cause i remember the sea horse being the ride's mascot

I made friends with one of the people chilling under the umbrella by the little dip. During my trip my family rode it 4 times in a row, and every time our boat would pass by we would say hello and joke around saying, see you in about 10 minutes!! Eventually we had to leave, and as we were walking past the front of the ride, we waved to him and yelled goodbye and he did the same. Such a nice man!! I'll never forget him. 😊

I remember when I first went on this ride. A lot of people told me it was scary but that first drop is over so quick you can’t really be scared it was fun honestly.

this will always be my favourite ride, i hate the stomach feeling and im known for that in my friendgroup but this stomach feeling hits different its so fun 10000/10 def recommend
i hated the stomach feeling too but I figured out that you need to scream as loud as you can. It makes the feeling less worse and you actually enjoy the first drop!

I think this ride is what made me afraid of drops. When I was a kid, I rode this with my uncle and my mom. My mom was sitting behind me, and I guess because I was so small, I actually started lifting out of my seat. My mom went down that drop pressing down on my shoulders to keep me in my seat. Lol

The old ride with the siren was much better! I only rode on this once in probably 2004 and at the end the siren would say, "leaving so soon? I think not!" and then she'd cackle and i have remembered it and it still freaks me out haha

Couple days ago I sat in the front seat of journey to Atlantis. I got soaked, and I like the music that they play after the first drop drop.
I went on this and I totally didn’t expect the Roller coaster but in the dark 😂😭

Legit got stuck at the very top of this ride when I was six or so. I panicked. Fifteen minutes later or so an attendant comes up a ladder on the side of the attraction and tells us, "Sorry folks, we're experiencing technical difficulties! Hang tight, the ride will resume shortly!" All except my brothre and dad were pleading to get off. He ignored our pleas. About five to ten minutes later the ride suddenly jolted forward in one swift motion plummetted down the slope and and I hit my face on the safety bar. Fun.
I just came back from sea world and let me tell you I liked the older version better, but this version is good enough 😭

I went on this ride 4 years ago and I remember how big that first drop is, it’s a lot bigger than it looks. And not only that but it started going up hill again for another drop 😭😂

I feel like sea world has had chances to make necessary changes to its theme parks but puts funding elsewhere. This ride has a lot of potential.
They have no choice, they have to combat the PETA hatred and propaganda that aims to shut them down
Here's the thing. This ride WAS very different few years ago with a story . Now it just feels empty
Journey to Atlantis used to be so good and the ride I've always wanted to ride. That drop is terrifying, it literally feels like you are gonna fall out

It kinda sucks that the story version is gone but I still think this is still a fun ride.
I miss the old story line. And Medusa coming down at you on the first lift.. They stripped it way back. Now I feel like you just float through a dark building and drop. Its still thrilling but the story made it GREAT
One would imagine, that they would cover up the siren statue's terrifying face at 3:07 as even though its not lit, you can still see the face staring down at you

I went to Florida with a charity a few months ago. I remember going on this ride so clearly and it scared me so much when the mini track but came at the end! This one and Kraken, Mako and Manta were amazing.
Brings back old memories. I live in Europe and i was on a holiday here 18 years ago. It was amazing and bit scary at the same time. The thing in remember the most is how soaked you get in there.. The 2nd (really small) hill get you so soaked. It was fun. Great park. And kraken was pretty new there. Damn smooth coaster. One of the best
fun fact, a couple years ago i got stuck on this ride and since i was little i was already scared so i’ve been terrified to ride this ride but now it looks fun 😂

I always loved the mini roller coaster at the end. Brilliant end to a very cool ride. Enjoyed riding this many times when I visited the US in 98, 01 and 16.
My younger sister she was 6 at the time always thinks she’s so brave, so we took her on the ride. After the first dip she started crying so she thought it was over but then when it started to go up again she started screaming.

I remember riding this when I was 6 years old. I didn't really like the second drop but now I'm 13 and i look at it and it doesn't seem that bad... I will definitely ride this next time i go there. It's a good family ride to bring people's kids in

Today this morning at 11:45am i went on journey to Atlantis at seaworld and i was so nervous i usually don't get on rides with big drops i would back out and say i am scared but this morning i got on this ride and i sat in the front row and when the boat started climbing thoes tracks i said oh crap oh crap here we freaking go soon as we got to the top when when the ride i was on dropped my face looked like this😬🎢🌊😣😥😰😖😫😱😨😓😲😟😦😧😯the whole intire ride and when we went racing quickly down that steep water slope i thought the ride was going to throw me out the seat bars didn't feel secure enough but hey at least i got on the ride and didn't back out

i went on this in august for the first time. i was on the front row with my sister ._. on the main drop we hardly got wet, but on the tiny drop after it i got absolutely soaked
This is a fun ride. The line going up is always SOOOOOOO long. It's legit the longest line of the park lol.
Sad to see the Medusa theme is gone. I remember this ride being terrifying when I was a little kid

Imagine how it must be for someone getting on this ride for the very first time, not knowing the history of it, thinking it’s just gonna be a fun little dark ride, then turning the corner at 2:54 and seeing that and getting closer and closer to it 😂😂

I'm so jealous that Orlando has this and the version at San Antonio is a near-zero theming splash drop with a couple of turntables so the vehicle can do the short segment between the climb and the drop backward.
It's not like San Antonio doesn't have the space for a bigger ride. That park is almost nothing but space.
