    Yeah, working with traditional supplies is highly satisfying... The feeling of having something tangible in front of you and seeing it taking form is like magic... It really feels like you are actually creating something

    I'm primarily a digital artist, but have been experimenting with inks as of late, partly due to your videos. The feel of paper, pencil and ink brings you down to earth in this new age of AI, where everything is hyper digitized. Even though I don't have the balls to use traditional tools for client work, I'm planning to make a short comic with some brushpens and markers as a side project so thank you for the inspiration!

      It's sooooo fun, right?! I'm with you on the hyper digitized world. I like to keep a certain slice of my life as undigital as possible. Have fun on your comic!

    I love these sorts of videos you put out, hearing your background and POV-- it's really helped me get back into art. I actually went to art school and graduated in 2015, unfortunately one of the things to come out of it was art anxiety- and a severe form that I didn't even realize I'd developed. My inner art critic was just so bad I began avoiding drawing comics and focusing on coloring them instead because it's the thing I was best at in school compared to everyone else. I focused on that and got really good at the expense of my other art skills, which then turned into a vicious cycle. My drawing/penciling/inking got rusty, which I felt and saw and it discouraged me and fed into my anxiety. It was at a point I had actually gotten rid of most of my traditional art supplies besides my Copics. Meanwhile my color work just got very good where I even had people telling me I could work at the big companies. That never happened because my art anxiety worsened even more. (Like seriously the last time I actually drew interiors was when I was IN art school, it's that bad)
    I switched careers in 2019 to web development and have been working as one for around 2 years. My art anxiety is still there but I had decided I really needed to tackle it and get it under control. It's been EXTREMELY difficult with a lot of progress and regression. It's only these last few months I got this urge to get back into traditional, the idea of making awesome comic book styled art but with traditional tools has been a nagging and exciting thought. After all I can paint and color no problem digital, a lot of that knowledge will carry over. I know my art anxiety WILL rear it's head as I learn (and relearn) different mediums (and fundamentals in general) but I'd been working to not let it dictate my life and art anymore. At the moment I'm not even bothering trying to get work, just get back into the habit of creating and learning and finishing pieces. I have 1 final issue of a project I need to color but rather than view it as a hindrance to trying to get back into drawing, I'm viewing it as a final hurrah.
    I will say, my anxiety even had me avoiding watching art related YT videos despite being subscribed, yeah it's that intense. But since that want to start drawing again I've been devouring so many-- yours especially. I think hearing other artists' own backgrounds, struggles, and journeys has helped me a ton.

    • @SiyaOum
      @SiyaOum  10 месяцев назад +2

      I truly know what you are going through. I am also very proud, and admire the fact that you wanted to create comic art SO much, you did it regardless of your anxieties. If you kept that in mind, I think you'll find what you said is right, "the final hurrah". However, I get the feeling once you're over that hurdle, you'll want to create more, which is going to be awesome! Thank you for sharing this with me, and all of us! My best to your art journey!

    Yes Art Supplies does Matter to a certain extent. The excitement of going to an Art supply store or Ordering via online gives me so much joy visualizing what would i draw next on a Blank Piece of Paper. Of course Skill & learning the Fundamentals of Art are Much more important than the Art supplies you currently have. Using what you have is also satisfying because it can tell a story of where you started off with & can look back years later. I'm a Traditional Artist & yes i'm slowly trying to Re-Learn how to use Digital Art.

    I do feel like supplies do matter on some level. For particular example - paper. Good quality paper can make or break your drawing because some papers don’t take erasing as well as others. Other than that you’re so right. You can work with anything to create a good piece of art 😊

    • @SiyaOum
      @SiyaOum  10 месяцев назад +3

      right?! It's not until something you worked so tirelessly on has a bad eraser smudge from so much erasing, or ink that bleeds, that you realize paper is important.

    Speaking as a teen who's done traditional most of my life, I can 100% this. After going to a big comics convention in my state were I met friggin Jim Steranko made me get serious about my art and future as a cartoonist. The only downside abt art supplies is that they add up real quickly. Especially if ur ordering them online lmao. I'm hoping to get a job sometime this fall so I can start saving up for supplies, but i'll be lying if I didn't say I'll take traditional over digital any day lol
