You need a mesh laundry bag, walmart, and stick the trap inside, close draw string. Then open the door. The laundry bag works over birdhouses with the Van Ert trap also. Birdhouse should be on a pole though.
Thank you! I haven’t had a good season yet my dog got into the trapping area and messed up my trap to get to the bait (old tortillas) lol I reordered some new ones.
I have watched house sparrows kill eastern bluebirds and take over the nest box. They use the little stick perch to stand on and kill the birds in the nest box. I learned that the only bird that needs the perch are the house sparrows. I removed the perches on my bird houses.
yes, I've got a family of eastern bluebirds right now and I watched a male house sparrow struggle to enter the box, mine doesnt have a perch either. I believe he was just checking the place out, but he got chased off by the bluebirds quick lol.
Hear me out: - Feeder with a camera - Metal perch connected to high voltage - Remote switch - Large garbage can with one way door lid underneath Watch camera, flip switch when house sparrows are on it, take out the trash. Eradicate dozens or hundreds in a day. Would the DNR arrest me lol
Sounds awesome! I already have the feeder with a camera. I just need to be more educated on what exactly does a house sparrow look like. How close is it to our native species.
I was thinking of patenting something similar, but the camera would use AI(and trained VERY thoroughly) to detect and zap House Sparrows and Starlings.
This sounds great! Butttt I have no idea how to connect a metal perch to high voltage and then add a remote control! 😅 I wish I knew how to do this! Do you know of a video showing how? I counted 50 house sparrows!!! They have taken over my yard. I only see a couple finches 😢
No luck with the Van Ert traps just yet. I just keep catching Wrens. My success has been high powered air rifle ( Gamo 177 ) and a cage trap I made. I submerge the trap in a barrel of water. Takes about 15 seconds. I hate the fact I have to clean up someone else's mess....😡

A thumbs up & a subscribe for anybody & everybody who helps eliminate this scourge that's decimating our native bird spp. Thanks pal!

The only bird house I have a perch on is the one I put the Van Ert trap on because of that fact!

Why wouldn’t you put a bag around the box so they don’t escape
I do now lol lesson learned

I forgot to mention your trap box should be on a pole
Lol, it was like watching elmer fudd hunting.
You get them out by filling the space with a towel or rag. 2:50
I started putting the pillow case I use for relocating snakes around it and they will fly into that.
@@invasivebrews I like that idea too, I think I will do that.
Just put a plastic bag over the trap door, then you can open it and the sparrows won’t fly away.
Why the gloves for a sparrow 😂😂😂 if you were dispatching them anyway shake the trap hard enough they are dead.
That is until they break on through to the other side.
