Hey man don’t listen to those idiots you did the right thing man keep up the good work man love ya & your videos God bless you & your family
Since I was 10yrs old I have called them "McDonald's parking lot birds"
Well you're going to unintentionally trap some protected species, I hope Johnny Law understands that...
How do you humanely dispatch of the non-native animals? You always say that you humanely dispatch them but I don't recall you ever explaining how...
I reckon Shawn has the sparrow deported back to the UK.
Yes, we'll have em back. Swap em for the grey squirrels.
@Nikolaos Vitoroulis no one is being forced
@Nikolaos Vitoroulis Maybe against birdflu. Sparrows can't get kungflu.
I shoot the sparrows. Too many to give to the local cats, and not enough meat for me to bother with, so I just give them to the hogs.

Shawn always seems to have an un-ending supply of mice and rats around.
Also Shawn: Dumps a pound of bird seed all over the place...
Seeds literally grow on almost all small grasses and flowers, which are everywhere in rural areas like that. Most of the food goes to waste. You'd need thousands of birds to eat all of the wild food that's available.

I've had this same trap configuration from another designer. They definitely work well, the original that is, and when a female goes in, the rest follow and best numbers around here enter around sunset if the female is in. What are your thoughts on getting that from someone who copied the original? Thanks as always... house sparrows follow and kill the Bluebirds here and have been rough on native song birds. Thanks Shawn and happy 4th to you!
The same way I feel about buying a Brother copier or Chevy Truck (a Ford guy but u get the point) or Dell computer or Ruger pistol...
I know what you mean , but in this video Shaun is not selling the copies, he is just testing them out
yeah. I bought one from a guy from MN. I think I found it on EBay. This was about 10 years ago. This one is a cheaper copy of his design.
@@coca-colayes1958 the point is not blaming shaun (duh) but wondering how he felt about it. I mean dude did have a video on calling out copycat mousetrap. And he called it disgraceful.

Nice trap! Enjoyed the video. So many people don't understand the damage caused by invasive species.
I'm happy to see you(or not see you) do the right thing. Even when people object.
I hope you remember that the haters are just a very noisy fraction.
You have consistently demonstrated that you value and respect the lives of all, even pests or invasive species.
I just finished for the day processing a bunch of excess roosters. Careful thought was given to keeping them unstressed, comfortable and respecting their lives by wasting nothing.
I understand the need to placate the 'overlords' but we're with you.
I'll go order a shirt for my friend now.
The sparrows are thanks to colonists importing them from England because the birds were missed.
I doubt it was because they were missed so much as these birds are REALLY good at making their nests and home right up close to human activity.
If you ever visit any kind of warehouse you'll see just how easy they make nests around any sort of storage. They likely were brought over with the cargo in ships without hardly even being noticed!
@@MelkiorMonster Actually that is the story and they brought 27 birds over and that became the starting population in the US.
actually it was some damned liberal from NY city who wanted to have the xx birds of the shakespearean sonnets imported that we have all this sh*t from sparrows, starlings, grackles and others. It's sad but you got to do what you got to do. You got to figure that if even Oregon is saying it's okay to trap them that they must cause a lot of harm.
You need to IGNORE any/all negative comments about killing these birds. They don't understand that they are one of the biggest reasons why native species are in trouble. So keep doing what your doing and let them vent but do not let them change your mind about getting rid of them. Thanks alot and keep up the great grest work
I'm most impressed with the fabric backing with the zipper to get the bird out without accidentally letting the bird out on it's own. It's a good idea.

Interesting bird trap. 🐦
"Non-native invasive species." 🤨
We all know what you're going to do to the bird. ☠️
I mean he outright said it at the end. That he is allowed to trap and dispatch these animals because of how invasive and destructive they are
Shawn, thank you for your channel and the video on trapping the House Sparrow.
These invasive specie not only disrupt nesting of endangered Bluebirds, Swallows and Purple Martins but they attack those native birds nests to kill fledglings and pin the eggs in the nest.
They are absolutely horrible birds.
that was interesting. that bird is native here in the Netherlands. just send them back here :).
Birder here. Yeah these house sparrows are dime-a-dozen and they don’t belong here. Bluebirds used to be more common before the house sparrows arrived and started taking all their nests, now they are very rare birds, I’ve only seen one bluebird before and it was on a special reservation designed for them
Just like native humans, huh?
Good on you for removing invasive species! More people agree with you than disagree, we just need to be louder for you!
Its invasive so its illegal to be released into the wild, so feeding it to wild native animals is a win-win fir nature
You gave the bird a "little flip".
I've had this trap for 10+ years from a builder here in Canada. Caught over 100 sparrows in a few months. Continued to catch 50+ sparrows every year. Those sparrows breed like crazy.
Where in Canada? I’m curious how to get one
Why do people get pissed about humanely dispatching an invasive bird but not a mouse or rat? Because people have double standards.
Yes, but also a lot of people get triggered by the mice and rats as well unfortunately
Hey, if it wasn't for double standards they wouldn't have any at all!
Why do people get angry when you kill birds but not cockroaches? freaking double standards man, people are so shallow kappa
@@anonymous-rb2sr well if you read my previous replies you would see that I said that most people agree that insects/invertebrates and birds and mammals are on different levels.

Sparrows over here in the UK are getting to be a rarity. Their habitat is disappearing and houses are better built leaving no chance of a house sparrow getting in.
Today is without feeding animals? My cat and I are upset
ive made several of that exact design over the years. the work great
Interesting , in England the house sparrow is much less numerous than it was 40 years ago, so why are they doing ok in America
Likely because their predators and competition stayed in England.
Loss of suitable habitat in the UK. Lost a lot of hedgerows etc.
please take them back from us!
@@pissdog3956 you take you're grey squirrel back and those scabby rainbow trout.
Something really odd has been happening to the environment in England, some shenanigans . They blame it on climate change and loss of habitat but I can't see it. The birds are disappearing because the insects are, and cold blooded insects thrive in warm temperatures. Once you couldn't drive without getting a windscreen load of insects. There were still plenty of insects in the early 2000, but rapidly after that they started plummeting. Even big ants nests are a rarity in urban gardens, hover flies, once incredibly numerous, are rare. You'd get clouds of midges, even they're not around as much any more.
Made one for starlings years ago with the same principal of a teeter totter. Works great in the spring when they are looking for nesting places. Sparrows are much harder tp trap than starlings. You have to have a much more sensitive teeter totter.
It's a great design. I've used one similar(bigger) I built to remove them from my yard and around my feeders. They constantly swarm my feeders and empty them in a matter of hours! Record so far for number of house sparrows caught in one day is 41.
I wish I could do this for the exact same reason.
Sparrows and starlings are driving me crazy.
I think an adapted version of this trap would be great for mice or rats. Thanks for the great video, Shawn! :-)

Wish there were widely accessible pigeon traps. Such a nuisance where I’m at.

Air rifle?
@@boomshakalaka415 my city ordinances made it illegal to shoot them unfortunately
are you by any chance italian?
Very easy to make. My coworker & I made one w/ hardware cloth & the wires from 1-2 or 3 pants hanger bought @ a thrift store. Make a cage from the hardware cloth (use wire & hognose pliers to connect the sides). Make 2 entrances in the sides & a door on top (for removal). For the entrances, be sure to leave a ledge the birds will have to step over in order to enter, maybe 1-1.5" tall. Attach to a solid base. Bait the trap for 2-3 days so they get comfy going in/out. After that, attach the rods from the pants hanger w/ wire to the doorway so the bottoms hang INSIDE the ledge @ the bottom of the doorways; be sure these are no more than 1.5 - 2.5" apart. The bottoms catching on the ledge make these into 1-way doors, & aren't so heavy the pigeons mind walking under them. You'll be amazed at how easily you'll trap them.
I just hope she made her way safely to sparrow heaven
Sparrows used to be the most common bird in the UK... they are now an endangered species!
Joe Carter Minkman did say rats and mice are fine being shown exterminated because no one likes them. But when it's a cute invasive pest, not everyone will be on your side anymore just simply because the animal is cute. Ignore its destructive and invasive habits, it's too adorable to be dispatched like the pest it is.

We in the UK will happily swap the sparrows in the US for the grey squirrels here
