My lovely assistants and I built your trap in a couple evenings. (my daughters 8 and 9) They loved helping on this fun project and it is a cool machine! Your videos were not only great but are a bit of great teaching as well. My wife is a science teacher and we think your videos were fantastic! Kids thrive on this kind of project and we truly had a great time building this machine. I rate this activity at 5 stars! Fun! Thank you!

It's a great trap with a great trap door mechanism. I've just got one little idea. On the pvc pipe that you drilled a hole in to fit the nut and bolt through if you make the hole into an approximate one inch long slot you could actually then just slide the bolt to the desired position to make the pvc arm go up👆 and down👇 Thanks for sharing your video. . 👍

Great video, your easy to follow which made for a easy build! I built one in September of '22 and have caught 115 Hosp in roughly 5 months of trapping. One thing i did differently that I'm now second guessing is the one way door which i used hardware cloth instead of the thun plexi. I believe hardware cloth give more opportunity for birds to pull on it & eventually pull it open enough to get back out. I have witnessed birds pulling on it and have had a handfull escape & i actually caught a few escapees in the swingarm compartment! Have you had any escapees using the plexiglass door?? One other thing i did differently that I believe is an improvement was the angled cuts on the swingarm for clearance. The angled cut on the capture cage end of the swingarm I did the same because the swingarm needs to go as low as possible. But the opposite end or the weighted end needs clearance at the top of the arm, because it only travels from a level position to the top of the cage, so the angled cut on this back end of the pipe needs to be opposite of the angled cut on the front end. Done thus way no modification was needed to create clearance

Now all it needs is a hydraulic ram and the french fry blade from a vegimatic. Hook the ram to a motion detector next to a food bowl, and you have an on-demand cat feeder.

Well done guys! this will help a lot of people build a good, economical, lasting trap.Im designing similar one, but with a easier method to remove all birds at once, will post it on line, when I can prove it works well.Sparrows,Pigiones and Indian minors, are in Plague propoartions here in Australia, and If every conservationist built one or a dozen we'll do our bit , to save the native species CHEERS!

These traps with elevator are awesome. One thing to add, an inner flap on the hinged door opening to help prevent a bird escaping when getting them out. The birds are disease carriers in my chicken and horse barns. People need to understand the issue of this non-native birds that kills off our song bird populations.

    Bruntdog,
Really enjoyed your video. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. I have loned out a nestbox mounted trap to a neighbor having problems with sparrows but due to winds the last several days, she is having problems keeping the trap set. Your repeating trap looks like a great alternate. Will start on building one this afternoon.

Thank you for posting great video! I made my trap myself too(a year ago, there were not any videos on it, so it took me some time to come up with the design). I like the PVS pipe idea. My trap has a dark cloth on the door attached on the inside so that they will not see the outside once you open the door. I put a handle on it its quite handy since the trap is heavy.

My experience was not good. After a while the birds just hopped over the elevator and hopped back out. One of the sparrows got some seed, hopped back out and fed her baby waiting outside and went back in for some more. Maybe the elevator needs to be a little wider so the bird cant hop over it.

Go to the website called Coinflation (dot) com for the weights of all US coins. It would probably be better to check a bird book to find the weight of the birds in your area and then adjust your trap with whatever you are using for weight.

He says check it daily, but this is much TOO INFREQUENT. Should be checked at least HOURLY at least. Non-sparrow birds that are nesting will lose their young if trapped for long. Birds without water will die. Please do not use one of these without being diligent about releasing birds you are not targeting.
