Cropper and Dunn, you may not know them by name but you damned sure know them by ear! They were responsible for some of the best music from the 60's and 70's.
Oh, I know them by name! But then again I'm a huge Blues Brothers fan... 😎
The blues brothers..best thing that ever came out of SNL.
Those were the days.
Saw them on their limited tour in Dallas; I was just a kid (17, 1980 I think) but loved every minute of it. Great show!
@@CaptRich-bi3gp I was 14 in 1980 and remember seeing it in the theatre. Was lotsa fun. I believe we snuck in cause it was rated R.
@@OutOnTheTiles
I worked at a movie theater when it came out, watched it literally dozens of times.
But actually I was referring to seeing them live. Yes, they loaded up all these fantastic studio musicians and did a limited cross country tour. One stop happened to be in Dallas Texas not even an hour from my hometown.
Louie Torres and I had a blast even driving to the venue, in retrospect it is almost surreal. The stage had to of been the work of a set designer, it looked like a gas station out of the 1930s. When they came out for their encore, Jailhouse Rock, the entire back curtain opened to reveal floor to ceiling rows of cop lights all of them activated red and blue. It was wild we felt like we were almost in the movie at the end with the giant chase scene. I was 17 at the time, I will never forget it. John Belushi made a very good attempt of a cartwheel coming on stage. Dan Aykroyd did all that crazy dancing like in the film, it was wild.
Good times!
The reason that SNL deteriorated so much over the years from it's comedy peak in the early years is that Loren Michaels contracted a devastating disease that is chronic and incurable -- CAD ... Comic Alzheimer's Disease. Two other famous victims of CAD are Bil Keane and Charles Shultz.
I was 16 when The Blues Brothers came out. That movie and the musicians in it changed me, I have probably seen it 100 times now, it's still great every time. Later in life I teched for a guitar player friend, every show I used a line at the beginning and end from the movie. Pre show, "chicken wire?" and after show, "let's get the hell out of here".
I’m from Chicago and grew up 8 miles from John Belushi. The Blues Brothers gave our city so much pride.
Thanks for sharing Boko....Joe
It gave Chicago a lot of new police cars, IIRC. (And Mayor Byrne a new career?)
I ve been on a Mission from God since I was 12.!!!!!!!
I live in Carol Stream and it’s just north of
@@kurtkensson2059 Of course they got all new cop cars because I they destroyed about 250 of them in just one scene
I was at a Blues club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida called The Musicians Exchange (no longer there, sadly) and in 1986, Matt "Guitar" Murphy was the headliner and I swear to God, Steve, Donald "Duck" Dunne and a few other members of The Blues Brothers Band were on stage with him (sans Belushi and Akroyd, obviously. They rocked the house down and the event was unforgettable.
I remember the Musicians Exchange..Used to frequent that place in the 80's
The Band!!!
I heard in an interview with Dan Ackroyd that John was not into the blues and R&B, Dan was. John was more of a hard rock fan. So glad he decided to give the blues a try, created a career defining character.
This is not only music history -- it's U.S. History.
Steve used to spend a lot of time at my home as a child writing songs with my father. He was always such a nice guy
Thanks for watching and sharing your memories Beau...Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Hopefully you will induct my father while he's still around
Play it Steve!

Mr. Cropper was the real talent behind Murph and the Magictones.

@@cpf383 The soup there is ----n ten dollars!
They had that armada room rockin’
@@cpf383 LOL, you mean Mr. Fabulous, along with with Matt "Guitar" Murphy and Blue Lou. 😆
I was a kid when they made Briefcase Full of Blues and the Blues Brothers movie, Animal House etc, might have been a bit before my time but it certainly had an effect on my sense of humor and music choices later, my high school girlfriends older brother in law who was 38 was just as crazy as Belushi and hilarious as hell, he impacted my sense of humor as much as John and Dan did, loved John Candy and the SCTV crew as well, I still refer to the B.B's as the Good Ol Blues Brothers Boys band even though it was the Good Ol Boys they mocked in the movie lol. Still have my BCFOB album, got rid of all my albums from the old days but kept that and Cheech and Chong and Sinatra, Bennett and those types of albums.
I think the most amazing part of this interview is that Paul McCartney hired John Belushi to do his Joe Cocker imitation from National Lampoon's "Lemmings" show and album. That just blows my mind.
God Bless Joe Chambers, I miss him. When I need to get some motivation, I watch one of Joes interviews, always works. Thanks Joe
Joel, Thank you for your very kind words and continued support for the channel… it would have meant so much to dad and does to me too.
Hope you can visit the museum sometime.
Best,
Britt
Oh, how I would love to have met Joe. He replied to a number of my comments with kindness that seems rare these days. And I told him I do my best to get over there from Idaho to see the museum. I didn’t get it done before he passed away and I’ll always have fond memories of him. I feel like I knew him, even though I didn’t. Condolences to his family and friends. I know it was a huge loss for those folks. RIP Joe 😘
Cropper is the coolest. I'd love to hang out with him over a few drinks. What a legendary talent.
He reminds me of Robert Duvall ❤
Damn. Cropper is ageless.
Saw the blues Brothers tour in Concord Calif about 6 months before John died..
Love Steve Cropper what a great interview Thanks Joe
Nelly.... thanks as always... Joe
In 1996 I was a caddie at Valhalla country Club in Louisville KY. One Day morning I had the pleasure of caddying for Mr. Cropper and he was a very nice and congenial guy and we or I should say I enjoyed caddying for him very much .
John Belushi RIP, gone too early
Blues Bros one of my favorite movies
Joe, another session you've hit out of the park. You apparently have a way with people for them to give a great interview. Steve Cropper is a consumate musician and showman. I thank you and Steve for this.
Winton... very nice of you to say... thanks for supporting us....Joe
Steve you are greatest ❤️❤️❤️❤️from Canada
Every one of these interviews is gold. The Colonel is a great musician that brought so much to music and helped to shape rock. Thank you for another piece of priceless music info. Peace.
Again thanks MOD... Joe
The blues brothers band is so good it's classic music i love it still to this day
Thanks for sharing your thoughts M S..... Joe
Your welcome
That was awesome 👍.
Whenever I see anyone I know named Steve that's what I say. "Play It Steve!!!". I got it from The Blues Bros. The only movie I ever went to see 2 days in a row. Sam and Dave were before my time.
Thank you again, Joe! ✌️
Thanks again Rick....Joe

That was terrific Joe! The Blues Brothers is one of my favorite all time movies & Steve Cropper is one amazing musician. Now I will have to watch that movie again! 👍😉 Hope that you are doing well & staying safe!
Thanks Steve... hope you’re doing well too... I want to get my dang vaccine .... Joe
Steve Cropper, true genius on guitar, awesome legacy
Great interview thank you so much met Steve once with Booker T. and the Mg’s they were Neil Young’s back up band in the early 90s he’s quite the gentleman thank you!😎
Love Steve Cropper, he’s got such great charm. ❤
I've lived in Eugene since 72. Use to see Salgado and Cray at Taylor's all the time for a buck. Had some friends that were extras in the film. I've heard some pretty wild stories about Belushi's time here in Eugene.
@The Thing On The Doorstep when coke was real
Irionically I was listening to Soul Man "the Blues Bros" version earlier today and then you post this. So cool. Great interview Joe. 👍🏻😎
Thanks again for watching David....Joe
This is such a great series! Getting this stuff out in the world before it's gone and forgotten.
Thanks for watching Brad…Joe
I live in Wheaton Illinois outside of Chicago where John is from and this was great to see !
Agreed! I’m from that same area. The Blues Brothers brought the City of Chicago and its suburbs a lot of pride. When Belushi died, it was a sad day.
Thanks for this great interview. Steve Cropper is a great musician. The Blues Brothers is a great movie. Both movies are. Cheers!
Joe...thank u so so much for sharing all of these wonderful videos...supremely righteous...best channel on utube imho...much love and blessings to u and yrs...thx peace
Many thanks CRR....Joe
Saw the Blues Brothers at the Hollywood Bowl and was taken aback by the 'backup' band because the entire show was done more professionally and was more fun than many of the popular concerts making the circuit at the time. We thought it would be just an SNL goof-off gig, but the evening went by so fast and done so well that I came away with greater respect for how versatile Akroyd and Belushi were. Timing, vocals, dance routines, audience participation...it had it all! Soul Man and Rubber Biscuit.

Mr. Chambers, you have helped create the most solid listing of music artistry interviews available. Many out there are grateful for them, but when I hear your introduction, The Real lights-up! Many thanks, Hoss! ✌️🤟
Hoss , my dad Joe passed September 28. He would have really appreciated your kind words and support for the channel… and so do I. He never thought there would be a outlet outside of the museum to share these interviews, but he had a lot of fun with it & always enjoyed meeting friends like you here on YT.
Hope you can visit the museum sometime.
Best,

I didn’t knew Steve Cropper too before The Blues Brothers - and then I discovered that I’ve knew him all my life through Stax and his wonderfull music.
Sometimes faith and music goes in circles - without you even discover it.
Very true Kasper.....Joe

That's a fact. Seems like half the Blues Brothers band were connected to Booker T and the MG's, in one way or another.

McCartney
Steve Cropper and that beautiful voice, and I always remember an interview with him saying "for me.. going to Stax was like going to church..".
Grew up listening to the radio from Chicago, Nashville, and Mexico. We had no TV. I really identified with Mr Cropper talk about learning songs that way.
Toured STAX several times and SUN and then drove by ROYAL and wish AMERICAN was still there.... Great interview Joe as always
I've lived and worked in the entertainment industry in Nashville for 21 years and I can say this with the absolute most certainty....There is no name dropped more often by industry insiders than the Colonel...I had a chance to build a piece of audio imaging for a radio segment for Steve...I was in a true creative panic...How can I make a proper introduction to an audience for who is one of THE foundational bricks in Modern Pop Music? I was given a month notice and I worked on it for weeks...Making sure I had the right hooks and drops and Steve to convey the greatness that is Cropper...I have a series of Get Smart doors in my Rock & Roll brain...The more doors you open, the more impressed I am with your knowledge...Steve Cropper is the last door...SO! I make this Segment Intro for "Pickin' with Steve" where he picks game winners for the weekend, tells stories, brings on Dave Mason...shit like that...I'm not at all happy with my results...I didn't think it was good at all...I hated it and wanted to go back and redo it completely...I refused to even listen to it on the air, tuning in after the TOH so I'd miss it on purpose...About a week or so later, I'm playing golf with my PD and he gets a text, asks me if I sent that MP3 of the Intro to Steve...I worried it was to say "THIS SUCKS! DO IT AGAIN!", but I was told that Steve Cropper thought what I made was one of the better produced pieces of audio he had heard and it is now his ringtone...I don't care if he was being sincere, (which if you ever spent time with him, he was) or just being nice, but I no longer care if anything I do in my career is good enough. Ratings or fans will never mean more to me than Steve Cropper having my Imaging as his ringtone.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jake....Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Glad to have the story, and many more. If you ever need a Fill In for an interview, I'm not very schooled in Country, but I've been in Rock Radio for over 25 years.
I was 11 when the Blues Brothers movie was released, easily in my top ten favorite films.
My favorite thing about Steve Cropper is his playing. My second favorite thing is how he almost always refers to himself in the third person.
Love Steve! Great interview
Thanks 567.....Joe
Great interview!!!!
Thanks Jim....Joe
Steve Cropper is an American Guitar Icon in the same class as Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, etc. His playing is wonderfully soulful, too. The other members of Booker T and the MG's, like Duck Dunn, Alan Jackson Jr. and of course Booker T. Jones are American Icons, too. What seminal recordings these cats played on.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Michael.........Joe
If memory serves, Duck Dunn was the bassist for the Blues Brothers band. (I could be lazy about it and look it up but I want someone to test my memory).

The Real Deal! So good! You & Steve Rock!
Blues Brothers Therapy, John overcomes his fear of heights when Steven introduces him to transposing.
The Blues Brothers actually started while John & Dan were filming Animal House in Eugene, OR. and caught the house band at BJ Kelly's with Robert Cray & Curtis Salgato. The first time they performed the group on Saturday Night Live, they credited Robert & Curtis, but that faded into history.
Dan Aykroyd wasn’t in Animal House and the genesis of the Blues Brothers was a January 17, 1976 sketch on SNL.
@@alfandeddie I have the first SNL video and it says plainly that they got the inspiration from Robert & Curtis. Dan didn't have to be in the movie to be in Eugene with John.
@@alfandeddie Danny and John came up with the BBB because of Curtis Salgado and Roomful of Blues.A band, Curtis was singing with from Providence Rhode Island.Danny has always been a Blues fan and was friends with a Canadian band called Downchlld Blues Band. They bought a Blues bar on Halstead on the Southside of Chicago that was called B.L.U.E.S.
On Halstead.Hired all the best players and the rest is history. They took Matt Murphy away from James Cotton's band.
Jake + Ellwood took Matt away from the diner. When Jeff Beck auditioned for the Yardbirds( 1966? ) He said he played them some Buddy Guy, some Matt Murphy!!
John Belushi stayed at Bobby Dunn's( Duck's brother) house in Memphis doing some pre-production for the movie. My friend, Brad Dunn was a teen. Maybe 13 and was in charge of getting Belushi around to where he needed to be. Belushi drove his Mercedes and Brad rode shotgun. He has great stories but I'll leave it up to him to share if he wants to.
Thanks for sharing Brad....Joe

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum give me some Buddy Miles! Loved and knew him from Omaha.
Greg.... I met Buddy but he passed before I could get to him and do a interview. I was a fan of Buddy’s way before Band Of Gypsies with Jimi and Billy Cox. My band in high school played “Them Changes” for years. We had a horn section from our start in 1969 and “Changes” was a fun song for the band to play not only for our horn section but I as the lead guitarist loved the guitar riff and solo. I really hate I didn’t get Buddy on video in time for you and me. Thanks for asking....Joe

When he talked about `it could take a week` getting word to someone and, the waiting. Looking back we did a whole heck of a lot of waiting. if not in traffic on the freeway, waiting to not get a busy signal for the 14th time trying to get a hold of so and so. I guess from all that waiting, once we got the go-ahead, we were off and running.
and we were all looking to bum some money cause we were all broke more or less. the good old days huh

I have a memory of Mr. Steve Cropper, the year was sometime between 1996 or 97 I was a caddie at the famed Valhalla CC in Louisville KY. While attending Culinary School at Sullivan University there. I was paired with Mr. Cropper as we were out on the course he asked if I could get him some Beer, I suppose the night before he had been out to a handful of bars and tied one on pretty good. I got on the walkie talkies they supplied to us caddies, I called up to the club house, had them bring a sixer down. After the round was over as good gentlemen he tipped me $1000.00 his company and stories where a welcome change to the snobbish pros I had bagged for previously.
