These 888 corse bikes are extra special because not only were they given a displacement advantage over the four cylinder machines. Back then.They were given a weight advantage as well. Hence all the magnesium parts. The weight advantage was the first thing to go away when Ducati started winning later. Hence the need for these expensive parts were not needed when the weight requirements went up. I want to say back then these machines could weight as little as 327 LBs. I believe it was changed to around 355 for 916 variants.
