I had just turned 18 the week before and was excited to see the show--but my friend who made the trip down with me wasn't 18 yet and couldn't get in. So I guess we went home.
I was 16 and went to buy tickets for this tour. They cost $17, which was a heck of a lot of money for a band at that time. I saw REM in August of same year in a much bigger hall for $15. I would have bought tickets for the chain but I didn't have the $17 at the ticket office. They weren't nearly as popular at that time as REM Fables tour moment. Damn it!!! The next time they came to town (Baltimore/ DC) was in late '87 or early '88 and by that time Bobbie was gone and they used a drum machine. Thanks for posting this!
Missed this show but saw them at St. Andrews Hall March 1986, they played 15 to 20 minutes, well actually 'played' about 10 minutes and did a drunken feedback noise shit show for another 10 minutes until the Reed brothers went to sleep on stage. Beer bottles rained down upon them and a partial riot ensued. People were angry! Similar happened again in 87 but they made it maybe 25 minutes and disappeared offstage in the overwhelming fog.. They apparently wisened up and stopped pulling that stunt as they must have wanted to continue to have a career in music, which they have done now for quite awhile. Otherwise they probably would not have lasted more than another year or 2 the way I see it. Cool vid. I'll try and do timestamps for you in the next few days if nobody else steps up.
Funny you say that. A mate went to see them around the same time (can’t remember where) and came back very pissed off. Apparently they were on stage for less than half an hour and played with their backs to the audience. Struck me as a bit far fetched at the time but maybe not 🤷♂️
Hey Henry...I might be wrong but I don't think this is the 1985 JAMC Detroit gig my band Spahn Ranch opened. That night I don't remember them playing their cover of "Mushroom" by CAN that's at 14:30 of this live set. And this set seems way to polished...they weren't this good on that first US tour, as they were not yet even interested in moving beyond feedback chaos at that early stage. This gig sounds more 1986-ish. O
They played for 21 minutes at Traxx on that first tour, and I agree, this recording is far too polished for 1985. I think I was the sound engineer that night?

Saw the Minneapolis show two nights before...Bobby G on standup drum.
