    I'm stopping at 22 minutes to comment. First, the head mount action is MUCH better (thank you for the extra effort!). Second, the way you and Lori communicate and her knowing what the next step is without you saying anything is a joy to watch. You are lucky to have her on your team. Third, I still have the feeling I missed something in the introduction -- is the main objective to fix the pipe not holding water (i.e., leaking down faster than the pump can fill the pipe)? The fact that it drained so fast seems to point to the check valve or a hole nearer the bottom - not the first joint.

    • @OkieWindmiller

      Thank you for watching this new one and noticing that! We do work well together, but we do have long rides home tho sometimes, after a long hot sweaty day together and feelings get hurt, etc….I am super lucky tho and I know it well!
      Sorry, yes, the objective is to figure out why water is dropping out of the column so fast, with a new foot valve on bottom. It shouldn’t be. My thought is rust break thru where a pipe wrench had been. You’re still watching so I wont spoil it for you, but it’s a big dumb mistake………

      Good morning! Thank you for watching! So, she bought me an old windmill in 2004, and I rebuilt it, installed it, and it gained attention of people that had old windmills that needed work, so we started doing it on the side. Fast forward about 22 years, I quit my full time job to take care of the windmill business, because we had gotten very busy and backlogged with work. She is wonderful and she is my brain! She thinks things through differently than I do, so it’s a perfect match! Thank you soooo much for watching and commenting!

    i would love to see some specifics on the crane. i can’t quite figure out how you extend and retract the boom. or how tall your crane is? and how much it can lift. a video like that showing the crane would be neat.

    I have enjoyed watching your videos. I’m a retired farmer in south Georgia. Windmills are pretty much a relic of the past down here these days although you still see one occasionally. There were many old hand pumps located on the farm years ago, as well as Jack pumps, so I’ve pulled and replaced leathers on rod pumps many times. I have a question if you don’t mind? I’m not a fan of good farmland being converted to solar panel farms which seems to be the norm down here these days, however converting wind power to solar power for individual well pumps makes sense for those who want them. My question is this, are these pumps on a timer, do they run full time, how much water can they pump as compared to the windmill? I’m assuming these solar pumps are the conventional submersible pumps? Sorry to be so inquisitive, I’m just curious.

    • @OkieWindmiller
      @OkieWindmiller  3 месяца назад +2

      Howdy there!!!! So my wife is a Georgia girl!
      Yes I had a hard time talking myself into doing solar wells, but parts were getting hard to find for many of the obsolete windmills, and swapping to a new one was expensing, and they had to babysit them, and the yearly maintenance. So solar is a great thing for the farmer/rancher.
      Most of my installs are on float switches on the tank. Tank is full, pump goes off. Other places, they want the water to run over and go to a pond. I also try to match the solar pump to what a windmill would produce, most that involves install are 6 gpm, and a few 3 gpm. I can pump up to 96 gpm if the static water table is high.
      These are pretty much regular submersible pumps, but the Grundfos will run on either ac or dc. So I wire them for panels and a plug to run off the generator if need be!
      Thank you so much for the questions and for watching!!!!!!

    Could you please explain all the practical uses today of a windmill and how it works in detail. Why does it pump water to nowhere? Why is the tail section sideways sometimes. Is it brakes or parked?

    • @OkieWindmiller
      @OkieWindmiller  3 месяца назад

      Yep I will now and am planning a video soon! So windmills have became popular again for the nostalgia of years gone past, and there are a lot of baby boomers that were raised with a windmill in their yard pumping water to their houses. So a lot of our installs are non-pumping displays, to look like they’re doing a job.
      We also fill a lot of water tanks for livestock. When you see them flowing , they usually overflow the tank they are filling, so people bury water line to a pond to catch the excess water to help during drought times, which is all summer every summer here in Oklahoma. This maintains healthy fish and wildlife. All from the wind!
      Good question about the tail! So when the tail is back and perpendicular to the fan, that makes the fan face the wind head on and makes it run. When the water needs turned off or during stormy/windy weather, we turn them off. That is when the tail is pulled sideways parallel to the fan. That pulls the fan out of the wind and there is also a brake that is applied to the fan! Thank you for watching and questions. I will have a video for you soon!!!

    I know it's easier said than done and money is tight these days but you definitely need a remote control for your hydraulic controls. We use to pull all our windmills and we just used a winch bolted to the flatbed then a chain up through top of tower with a block to let the cable drop straight down. When we got a cordless winch. Omg was it a game changer!!!

      @OkieWindmiller  Месяц назад

      Buddy you ain’t lyin! I have a remote, but I can’t track down the issue it has. When it’s plugged in, it puts the truck at high idle, which makes it too fast and jerky, so not good to use. This winter when it slows down a bit, I hope to look into it!

    So I would like to say that I did watch your first video before this.
    You did remove and put everything back in the same order that you removed them.
    That being said, someone else had done the work before you even started that job.
    The reason I am saying this is that sucker rod wouldn't normally just unscrew itself and fall off 60'. It would have had to unscrew from 2 points "simultaneously".
    Don't blame yourself too hard, Yes you should have verified where the weep hole was, but the fact that you removed and placed things back in the same order was not your fault.
    Remember that the Pump handle assembly was off when you first showed up and you were complaining about having to make sure everything was there and no missing pieces.
    There was a second hint that when you hit that 3rd pipe then you had water gushing out showed that there was no problem with the seal at the bottom holding approximately +/-8.34 Gal of water @ +/-100 Lbs head pressure of water.
    All I can say is, We all make mistakes, but not all of us learn from them. (RH 1978)
    But being better said by George Santayana, a Spanish-American philosopher born in 1863 “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

    I'm a retired OTR Trucker. The best way to resolve your battery problem is get a generator on your truck to keep the batteries charged. Or you could run the vehicle engine wich gets expensive. How ever many watts your lift uses DOUBLE the watts on generator. Add a RV refrigerator and you'll have ICE COLD DRINKS AND ICE CREAM for those triple digit summer Temps. 💖 from Minnesota use to live in Texas I bet I drove over 100,000 miles through Oklahoma! 😎 #PuddingFan

    I used to live in South Logan County, and you were in my old Fire Protection District, (I think) if you were south of Seward Road, you were in the Oak Cliff Fire Protection District. If north of Seward Rd, you were in Guthrie Fire territory. I really enjoy watching your channel, and used to do service on water wells. Next time you're in the South Logan County area, you should look up my old employer, at Jenks Water Well Service on Broadway Road, just north of Waterloo Road. I think you might have some stories to share. I don't know if I'll ever get to survey your company for insurance, but that's what I do now. Hope to see more vids in the future. No fixes for the battery/camera overheating, just have lots of fresh batteries and cameras, switch them out frequently, that's all you can do if you want to record in the heat, or extreme cold.

They have quite a bit of stuff and if it’s not listed, you can ask and he probably has it! If you need help, I can help also. Thank you for watching and liking! Good luck with that awesome mill!!!

My request it to see more of the surrounding area. Maybe a little intro on where you are located, not exactly, so that it's still private for the owner, but just general view of the location. Maybe it's just me, but that would be cool

    This was interesting and I learned some things. I can understand liking having your wife around, but wouldn’t a wireless remote control for your crane be a wise investment? Also you can get or make something to lift sucker rods with your crane. Too many people in this business have bad backs and that would put you out of business.

    The person that had rigged the windmill before you got it. The one that installed the all thread. Replaced the pipes in the wrong order. You replaced them in the order they came out and installed the broken fix the same manner. It worked somewhat better because you had serviced the old pump. But the original problem was still there. I used to repair computers and the first question I asked to user is , "is it plugged in " ? The customer said ,"It is too dark, I can't see if it is plugged in or not, Our power is off."

    PVC pipe doesn't stand up to sunlight exposure very well. I think that's why the customer has problems with it breaking frequently.

    • @OkieWindmiller
      @OkieWindmiller  3 месяца назад +1

      Yep I believe that is a part of it, but this case was strictly because it froze and allowed the hold down clamp to slip from its spot, allowing the windmill to lift the well pipe up enough that it would break it, since the pipe going to the pond was buried and had no give to it. I hate plastic pipe that has been there for years, and try to put a pipe wrench on it and snap!!! That sun kills the PVC for sure! Thank you for watching and commenting!!!!!!
