I swear, had I been 6 years old when these toys came out, I would have gone Mental for them. As it currently stands these little figures are entirely unknown to me. Learning about them is fascinating stuff. And this is why I really appreciate all that hard work that goes into this channel. I admire the commitment and passion on display, alongside the toys. Lovely stuff.

Monkeywrench was my very first GI Joe toy as a kid. He often clashed with my old Luke Skywalker during playtime, eventually besting his Star Wars rival, when a young me lost grip of Luke near an active firepit my family had going one summer evening. Sadly, I don't still have Monkeywrench, as he was lost somewhere along the way, my memory of where and when are lost to time.

The Dreadnoks truly are some of the best characters & toys which came out of A Real American Hero. Flash forward to the present and they are still killing it in Classified. I especially like the GIJoe x Transformers Soundwave Thunder Machine.

So I know very little about the dreadknots and never really liked them. One of my first Joe’s was actually Zartan and I did like that figure. I have to say this video was amazing. It needs an award. I went from knowing nothing about the dreads to thoroughly appreciating their place in the G.I. Joe history, and now wanting to collect them. Great job Tony! This is probably my favorite video that you’ve done in a long time.

Another great video mate, I remember the Zartan controversy being the lead story on the NBC nightly news.
The figures still hold up amazingly well 40 plus years later and I had the gold earring version of Zarana and the Thunder machine back in the day.

I've always been stubborn and never desired any Dreadnoks past the original 4. I've had an eye on expanding my limited vision since coming back to collecting. This video was exactly the dive I was looking for and it looks like I've got a few items to add to the shelf. Nice job Mr.T ***And the thought of buying 3rd party bikes for the crew. Never even came to mind. Excellent sir.

Great video, I only ever had a the Action Force Zartan, I was never taken with the Dreadnoks, but they have grown on me over the years. Definitely they are very much of their era, and I appreciate that look.

I discovered this channel in 2021 and I've always hoped you'd do a Dreadnoks video. Brilliant job here. I'll never understand those G.I Joe fans who dislike the Dreadnoks because they were the brand's best figures of the late 80s. Truth be told, I was slightly too old for toys by the time Zarana & Zandar came out in the U.K in 1988 but I secretly bought them from Poundstretcher because they were so cool.
I wonder why we didn't get Torch in the U.K? Seen it suggested that Hasbro U.K were scared he'd inspire kids to become firebugs, but there were a whole bunch of late 80s/early 90s Joe figures which never got a U.K release.

This was great! I haven't watched the show i years so I didn't remember which other Dreadnoks appeared in the show. I had Zartan and his vehicle and the Water Mocasin that I would take to school and play at recess. There was a nice patch of dirt in the playground that was perfect to play in. I don't know how complete I will be with the Classifieds series but if I can have al least the main 3 guys, I'll be happy.

Luckily as a kid I would frequently travel to the States, so learned about Torch. I loved watching GIJOE on American daytime TV. I couldn’t believe they had it on TV.
    And the toys were everywhere!
Also suspected that Max Max was and influence due to looks and them being from Australia, never looked it up, nice to have it confirmed.

As always, Excellent video! Very well written and researched. I always enjoy watching your channel.
As a kid, the Dreadnoks never appealed to me. I enjoyed the "uniformity" of Cobra over the chaotic nature of the Dreadnoks. But that doesn't mean I didn't appreciate the imaginative toys. They were, and still are, beautiful.

Thanks for this video - Its suddenly filled in a lot of blanks I had from the US comic run I read a few years ago. Such as why they painted the fangs in weird coulors and stuck them in fair ground to hide them. Also why they had them on a trike rather than normal bikes in the new jersey missle crisis . I loved comics Road Pig/Donald, and now I see why he got a weird comic recolour along with zartans new look during the g2 transfomers crossover. Yeah I know its to sell toys ect. but it was such a good run, shame that the relaunch has less Dreadnoks and more Blue ninja bs.

Larry Hama allegedly used donuts and grape soda because the Comics Code (an American watchdog who determines what is appropriate for kids in comic books) rejected the original idea they used pot and drank beer.

I can remember when Joes first came out and the first time I seen one besides the 12 inch Joes anyways I was playing with my Star Wars guys in the backyard and a neighbor came over to play with me and he had this odd figure and I couldn’t figure out who this figure was lol and I had all types of figures such as Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Fisher Price Adventure People, even some dime store generic figures but I’ve never seen the fishier he had and he goes on to tell me he got it a couple of days ago at Kiddie City Toys and it was a GI Joe code name Snake Eyes but he didn’t really like it and offered to trade it for one of my Storm Troopers which I gladly did especially since he had Snake Eyes ammo pouch and my favorite gun as a kid a uzi which was made popular by current tv shows anyway Snake Eyes became my favorite character at that time before I even seen any other ones but sadly it made me to start looking differently at my other figures because this dude could bend his arm and legs.. So I was at a Woolworths a few days later with my parents and seen a bunch of Joes all were there the original straight arm Joes so I asked if I could get a few and for some reason my parents who spoiled me rotten said NO but I could get a Star Wars guy and this was really odd anyways long story somewhat short this was about a month before Christmas and I ended up getting all of the Joes for Christmas that year and that why my Mom & Dad wouldn’t let me buy any that day….
Funny thing my parents always only bought one of each characters didn’t matter if it was GI Joe Star Wars etc. So even though I had a ton of figures from a ton of lines unless I traded or bought my own I never had more then one of each and was always jealous of those kids who had 10 Stormtroopers or a dozen Cobra Soldiers I think 🤔 that is why I have like 50 vintage Stormtroopers now and Jawas 😂

I think the lack of Torch in the UK line was because of the cutting torch/flame thrower, definitely an unpleasant weapon, compared to ‘normal’ weapons, luckily for me, I got a Torch figure sent over from the States.
On a side note, In the late 80s I got Dreadnok inspired hairstyles, firstly a Buzzer ponytail, and later a Ripper Mohawk.

I think it makes scene for G.I Joe to have to deal with multiple enemy factions. In a wierd way it makes the 'anti terrorist' part of the Real American hero era more pronounced. Not every airport takeover or invasion or hostage situation is done by one group. The fact they are mercenaries also could in theory make the dreadnaguhts show up as working for anyone for the right price.

I owned Ninja Force Zartan as a kid. And I actually do like the design of the figure, just not a Zartan. I always used mine as a generic 80s Street Punk. Kind of like the ones you see in all those arcade beat him up video games from the late 80s early 90s. Cuz that figure really looks like he walks straight out of Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, or final fight.
