- In this video we take a look at an extremely rare set of Trophy Miniatures toy soldiers that represent the defenders of Rorke's Drift, who fought the battle during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. This set was limited to only 200 pieces and was kindly loaned to me by my father so that I could make this video for you all to enjoy... thanks Dad!!!

MATE.... This is F**KING incredible! That miniatures set is stunning!
Thanks man, I’m really glad you enjoyed it!!
I spent several years working at Trophy Miniatures and it's very probable that I painted that set. The majority of them did pass through my hands. It was a pleasant surprise to see this pop up on my feed.
Thats quite amazing really. Thankyou for the part you have played in this hobby.
Well, I guess I have to watch Zulu tonight...
Same
This inspired me to watch Zulu and Zulu Dawn, thankfully they were both on Peacock this month, oh and I watched them in chronological order not release order
@@travismiller4320 the Man Who Would Not be King is another good one.
My Dad and I watched Zulu annually for roughly 20 years up until the year he died from cancer. He would have loved this video and envious of your Dad. I’m not ashamed to admit that your touching words to your father at the end of the video brought tears to my own eyes
I used to watch this all the time as a kid with my father its what made me join the British army 😂. Keep strong and your father would be proud of you and is always with you ❤
my dads favourite film and would watch it every time it came on the TV. when we were kids, to keep us quiet when it was on, he would tell us to look out for the zulu with the gold watch, and if we found him, we would get a quid off him. so every time it was on, we sat quietly watching it. even if our mates were over, we all sat quietly, trying to find the zulu with the gold watch.
after he died, zulu came on and as usual, us kids would sit down and try and find the zulu, to which mum, whilst crying and laughing, told us that it was dads joke to get us to be quiet when it was on, and there was no zulu with the gold watch. we all pissed our selves laughing/crying as dad had gotten one over us that we would never be able to repay.
many years later, i still sit watching the film, remembering dad, with my own child, watching my favourite film.
hope this did not bore anyone but wanted to share.
great content.
Come for the toys, stay for the history lesson. That's a beautiful set, your dad took good care of it.
Wonderful video. I'm a 48 yr old Yank and I loved watching Zulu as a kid. What a great tribute to your father as well. Such a beautiful piece. Thank you for sharing.
There's something very special about these little tin men. They're almost more than just toys. They have a story to tell, a rich history, a soul.
I didn't think this video would interest me that much, but I am happy to say that I was proven wrong. I really enjoyed watching this one.
As a "younger" toy soldier collector, I love seeing these vids on your channel.
This was an amazing video, and a truly amazing collection of figures. The depiction of the historic battle scene is just amazing. Thank your Dad from all of us for the loaning of this rare collection of figures. Thank you for the amazing history lesson as well.
What an outstanding video Tony. Those are STUNNING miniatures and sets, and it is great to know that the attention to detail and historical accuracy is present on this set. I have a few friends that are retired military that would quote Zulu, and that lead me down the history rabbit hole of the history of this battle, and the production of the movie.
This is a beautiful tribute with amazing information and production quality.
I remember growing up in the 70s my dad loved to get me toy soldiers brittians timpo airfix then matchbox happy times
Finished watching that with a tear in my eye and looking forward to meeting up with my dad and son tomorrow
Outstanding video. I am English and have watched and loved Zulu for many years. It inspired me to dig into the history of the events itself. And I was shocked to learn about the massacre that had preceded it. Over confidence on out part with the Zulus and our Empires soldiers being capable of dealing with anything. The publicity at the time and the military defeat was a shocking upset, and the Rorke's Drift action and events were used to help cover up the scale of the disaster. It was used as a positive event and told over and over in a light that would portray the English as being superior etc, but we were very nearly defeated here as well. All the arguments about Empire aside it was a shock for the establishment and only the heroic soldiers at the outpost prevented another massacre that would have serious repercussions for the Government and Military back in in England. These days I get so tired of seeing the British Empire portrayed in a bad light by modern day media, as we did a lot of good at the time. Preventing local wars, bringing medicine etc and outlawing and abolishing slavery, the first nation to do so, and the Royal Navy helped to police and stop it continuing. They never like to mention that in Universities these days...
this video is beyond awesome. I've never owned a metal soldier, but your video made me appreciate them. you can really feel the reverence you have for the real men who these figures represent, and the care and detail their creators put into them. It's awesome that you were able to honor your father this way.
Great video Tony, they don't make toys like this anymore. Enjoyed the history lesson!
Zulu was always a Christmas movie. I don`t watch much tv now, but have Zulu on dvd. FRONT RANK FIRE!!! stirring stuff. Well made video, didn`t know of these figures!
This is an absolute masterpiece. Cheers to you and your father.
Love to all the fathers out there, especially the ones that served great video, Tony
Great vid. Once rented a car to James Booth, who played Hook, when he'd crashed his. He was a miserable sod.
Beautiful collection piece, Fred. Thank you for letting Tony share this with us. Great show, Tony.
Awesome video! Fantastic set and wonderful movie! I had a British fiancée in the early 2000s and her father was insistent that I watch the movie. While the relationship didn't last, I adore the movie!😁
I've watched your stuff for years, and that is without doubt the coolest thing you've ever brought to us. Thanks for the content.
I can see these being very popular like miniature train sets. But sadly for a previous era.
Toys like these are amazing though, I even have some Knight ones.
There’s a beyond an amazing place in Victoria BC (the island and city) that’s under the Empress Hotel (looks like a legit castle) that would blow your mind and has been open over 50 years called Miniature World. It is mostly the small scale train sets, but have displays of large scale re-enactments using I’m sure these types of models. It’s huge and just blows your mind going through it. One of the neatest places I’ve ever been to.
You can be marveling at these gigantic displays and subtly the lights will cycle from a day to night and backgrounds change, streetlights come on, or in the castles interiors lights. It’s just nuts.
The story part you showed is hard for me though, even as an American. But I guess that’s just history and honestly the way things have always been regardless of race, color, creed, location, or era. Etc etc.
cheers bro!
I didn't know your father collected toy soldiers as well. That's so wholesome, reminds me of making model cars as a kid with my father. Cheers
fantastic video Tony!thank you so much for this awesome historical presentation, bravo sir.
Stunning video Tony. Being a classic film buff in addition to a toy collector, I had heard of Zulu before this video, but I wasn't privy to any of the historical tidbits, at least not to the level I am now having watched this video. I can tell this came from the heart and while I had no passing interest in toy soldiers, the craftsmanship of these miniatures are incredible given their scale.
Did they ever make any Action Man outfits like the soldiers at Rorke's Drift? I would assume so, but you of all people would know.
Surprisingly Palitoy never made an Action Man version of a Rorke’s Drift soldier. It’s one of the biggest misses in the whole line!
As a massive 28mm scale collector and painter I’m super happy to see Tony cover this. Love to see more of this scale. Great work Tony.
Let us never forget the bravery of these military heroes.
The toys made at that time were more beautiful than the ones made today.
I got Zulu (as well as Zulu Dawn) on blu ray a few years ago and.... yeah I was captivated by those movies. I really wish something like this set was available today.
Beautiful video beautiful soldiers and an amazing movie i have many happy memories of my father sitting me down to watch this with him and its part of what made me join the British army when i grew up at 16 😂.
Thanks for showing/sharing this awesome set and brilliant video!
🇬🇧
I used to have a Martini-Henry. It was chambered in .303, so not accurate to The Battle of Rorkes Drift, but it was still a cool rifle. I wish I'd have never sold it.
That's an awesome little set, thanks for sharing it with us.
Tony, you've made some great videos over the years, but this is right up with the very, very best. This set is incredible, the attention to detail is stunning, as is your knowledge of the set and the history of the battle and the film Zulu. It is so lovely that you can share this hobby with your father. 👏
Great Video Tony, A nice tribute to your father. Awesome set, Zulu to me is one of those types of movies that if you scroll past it while channel surfing you stop and watch it. IT doesnt matter if its just starting or only has a few minutes left.
Thank you Tony, and please pass my personal thank you to your Dad for this amazing opportunity. Truly appreciated. Trouble is, I need this collection in my life now!
Wow Great set!! in 1989 my dad buyed a set of Rorke Drift of Esci battlesets 1/72 with terrain soldiers and accesories., very great these old battlesets.
Fantastic Tony, love this so much; and thank you Mr Roberts for allowing Tony to show us.
An excellent tribute. That toy diorama is utter awesomeness! Superbly produced video, Tony. Thank you for sharing.
Great video and I love how you dedicated this to your Dad. Very touching. Zulu is one of my favourite films. Love this miniature set.
I've been slowly going through your backlog of videos and I gotta say, you've started to really develop a great editing style. Many people over look how much work actually goes into editing, clip selection, transitions, title cards, and not to mention your scripts! Honestly, you just keep getting better at these video. Here's wishing you the best!
Tony, Lovely tribute to your fathers amazing holy grail Rorkes drift diahrama , I absolutely loved the film I personally have watched it over 20 times , I wasn’t born when that move came out but I was 12 when I went to watch Zulu Dawn in 1979 when I was 12 , I asked my mother to take me I remember watching in awe 😮of what happened at Isandlwana , personally now I collect militaria pieces Eg ,medals of the Zulu & Boer war conflict , aswell as vintage toys , great video Tony loved it 😊
These look awesome. I remember watching the film with my Dad on many a Sunday afternoon. Great video Tony.
I can't see this without thinking of the Zulu War segment in Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life.
"Been in the wars have we? Yes, yes. Any headaches? Bowels all right? Hmmm, now let's have a look at this one leg of yours then, eh?"
It's a Brilliant film, Really is worth watching. I didn't know about this toy set, very interesting. 🏹
This is an are absolutely beautiful set, from a bygone era. Those vintage toys are in a class of their own.
I havent watched Zulu in about two decades now. Bought the Blu-ray as soon i finished watching the video
What a great video Tony & a amazing toy set piece which is really a work of art. Thank you for sharing this piece of your Dad's life.
That is awesome Brother, I just lost my father a couple of months back, I wish I could of shared something he loved like you have done for your Dad ❤️👍🏻🇦🇺
I believe this is one of your best ever and a fitting gift to your father. I have watched this film I don't know how many times but you gave me a better appreciation of it and what it meant to your family and the British audience as well as having an amazing figure set depicting the history of the battle. Very well done.
My husband’s father’s ancestry is from Eswatini and i know both my husband and father-in-law loves the movie Zulu Dawn for obvious reasons
That is a true treasure!
Great set and great video.
Great video! My dad and I watched Zulu and Zulu Dawn countless times when I was a kid.
So many awesome videos in your library, but this is definitely one of your best. Thanks!
Wow, thank you!
That is an absolutely STUNNING piece! I love detailed miniatures like that.
Thank you, Tony for giving my Wife and I a good classic movie to watch tonight on this July 4th. That set is absolutely beautiful and very well taken care of. I love how you and your Dad flew all that way, together to meet Len Taylor and how he gifted your Dad that rare figure of one of Mr. Taylor's ancestors. I got emotional when you were talking about your Dad because I lost my Dad on a Saturday and my Dad-in-law the very next day back in '22 and both had seen and enjoyed that film. Awesome review and dedication. Cheers Mate for wonderful Dads.
Probably up there with the best video you have ever done
Now i have to watch Zulu with my father this weekend, its only right. Awesome video.
Epic video! Appreciate your father's kindness and yours to share these amazing pieces with us! We are all better educated and inspired because of two good men.
Seeing that diorama and the history behind it really made me smile
The Bloody Zulu's.. Their everywhere...🏹
Thanks for another fantastic video Tony. Zulu was one of my dad's favourite movies. I remember watching it with him when I was a kid.
Wow!! What an incredible piece of toy history, Tony!! Appreciate you making this video. Hell! Appreciate the education! I’ve seen Zulu many times as a boy, and young man, but it’s been a while….I guarantee I’ll look at it a little differently today.
Hope to see you more of what your Dad has in his collection sometime.
As always, wonderful video, Tony. See you in the next one! 😊
Another incredible video. Top notch work, Tony!
That set is simply awesome Tony and the tributes to your father and Len were lovely
This video and the diorama miniatures are an history lesson, it's a shame that toy companies nowadays are afraid to expose kids to real history...
What a beautiful set, I can't get over the incredible attention to detail and love that must have gone into making it. Thank you for an amazing video, sir.
Tony, this is a superb review video for the Rorke's Drift Zulu War Toy Soldiers, from Trophy Miniatures of Wales Collection.
And what an amazing mixture of historical fact, film excepts / trivia and comprehensive insight into the Rorke's Drift Zulu War Toy Soldiers.
Amazing video and an awesome tribute to your dad!
Excellent video and an amazing tribute!
Wow, one of 200, that is impressive. An incredible set, with an incredible video to educate us who've never heard of the set. The set is just breathtaking. Thank you for letting us know of this, thank your father for the loan to bring this video to us. I've not seen Zulu since I was a young adult and now want to watch it again.
Great video the ending made me cry, Tony thanks for respectfully preserving history once again.

Truly an amazing video!
One of your best videos ever!! Incredibly entertaining and that set is cool af 😎 Bravo 👏
Awesome! Such a classic movie and glad to see someone else who appreciates both the true story and the movie.
This was badass, sir! That looks like an amazing display piece. There's something particular special about artisan pieces like that, as well. This is a historical document as much as it is a toy review.
Gorgeous set and movie! I had the esci 1/72 plastic one from the 80's...they were very detailed...especially the Zulu
Some gorgeous toy soldiers here...and superb shields! Nice touch with the film clips... 👍👍
I cant find the words....i grew up with this movie, today, i have several books on the subject, i had begun collecting reproduction bits, such as the 24th SWB belt and buckle, tunic, and sphinx badge, but, divorce cost me everything. Nice to see others have the same interest in this event, it makes the loss of my collection easier to accept
This set is amazing! The effort that went into it and the end product is just awesome striking. I had no odea such a set existed and in such low volume. I too was struck by this film in childhood and it continues to influence me to this day. Thank you for this effort to recognise both this toy set and the indoviduals in both miniture form amd those who created it.
Such an awesome narrative in this video. Thank you Tony! ❤
Absolutely awesome video
Hope all is well 🙂
Lovely video. That's a lovely set. Make sure your father insures it just in case.
Simply beautiful, Tony. Another great video.
What an excellent set, super quality. I never had these, but I did have an assortment of W Britain's offerings.
What a wonderful collection ❤
