At the time, I think Tom Selleck would have been a great choice. However, he made his decision to do Miami Vice. I would not want to undo Harrison Ford's performance. I like the combination of swash buckling and book smarts of Indiana Jones. It looks natural and believable when Ford does it. In fact, I like how the script has him looking like a bad professor in order to lend more credit to him wanting to work in the field. It really forms the swash buckling aspect of the character. They sort of get into this in Last Crusade in which he looks disorganized and is telling his students things that he later verifies as false.

The title is just Raiders of the Lost Ark. There´s no Indiana Jones in the title. People do love to change everything these days...
