    I absolutely LOVE your videos! You offer so many great ideas from the various unit studies and I love and ADORE how you share the results of the various kits you buy! Seeing inside many of the resources helped me buy some supplements for our history studies this year!

      Awe, your comment is music to my ears!! What you said is exactly my intention for this channel: to show from start to finish how we homeschool from buying/choosing the materials to doing the projects and finally reviewing the material. I find it frustrating trying to buy material online when I can't really see the books or projects, so it's my intention to show that as much as possible so you don't have to make bad purchases for your family. I can do this easily since we use charter school funding for our curriculum and homeschool supplies.

      I have to say kids will learn with the simplest of tools: a good book, a good teacher and the means to discuss or write down what they learned. All the extras really make me excited about homeschool more than anything else. I think we get the same thrill when we leave the library! Just know that all the fun stuff doesn't make kids any smarter ;)

    How can I find a charter school like yours which will fund the curriculum? I only was able to find one and it was for grades my kiddos aren't in yet. I visited the link you provided for options but I am hoping to find a school like yours. What keywords do you recommend I google besides charter schools?

    Hi Hana I absolutely love your videos. I am in the middle of switching from one charter to another where I think I will have more control on choosing my daughter's curriculum. I was wondering what charter are you with? I am also in Calif. Thank you :)

    What do you use and how do you position your camera so that the only thing that the viewer sees is a shot of your hands and books like in minute 4:34?

      I have a desk in my craft room (see intro video or Coffee Date Thursday video from March 3) with shelves above it. I fasten my phone to a ruler with a rubber band and slide the ruler under a stack of boxes to keep it in place. I have multiple lights positioned on the shelf directed to my work area. It works well for most things. Is it a good position to see the material? I'm always concerned there's not enough light! lol.

    Thanks for your response! I haven't been able to pin down exactly what school you are talking about that would provide me with the ability to purchase this much. We currently attend Dehesa and, even though this is our 3rd year, I am not very satisfied with the school for many reasons. Would you be willing to share which program you belong to that allows you to purchase all of this curriculum? I would like to look into something like this. Thank you!

      Hey Shelley! We are practically neighbors! Go Vikings!
      In SoCal your homeschool charters are Dahesa, Davinci (they are site based I believe), Sky Mountain, Sage Oak, Summit, Inspire, River Springs, to name a few. Each school's instruction funding varies with some schools giving students up $2000 per year. Other schools offer a range of classes in lieu of extra funding because they can secure lower rates for classes to groups rather than individuals. Some schools like Davinci specialize in a particular curriculum or focus. If a lot of freedom of choice sounds overwhelming, another option is the homeschool option many school districts offer. For you, that would be the Community Home Education Program, CHEP.

    I am blown away. Here in Indiana the home schoolers oppose gov’t funding out of fear that the gov’t will tell them what to do. It drives me nuts!

    • @PepperandPine
      @PepperandPine  7 лет назад +1

      Exactly! But it's not what people fear, at least not in my experience. I understand the HSLDA's stance on government funding, I only just hope that each state at least allows for choice. So that each family can choose whether to receive funding or not. I think we in California are afforded freedom of education without the fear of undue government oversight.

    We're in California with a charter too. This is our 4th year. I love the financial support, but am so tired of state standards. But can't deny, we love homeschooling. :-) What ages are your kids?

    • @PepperandPine
      @PepperandPine  9 лет назад

      +Creative2xmom
      My kids are 4, 9, 13 and 17. But I only homeschool the 9 and 13 year old because my 17 year old is in community college and my 4 year old is still too young for formal learning. I tend to wait until about 7 for formal learning. Not to say the kids are learning so much before then :)
      You know, about state standards, at least with our school, it is the burden of our 'teacher' (school liaison) to figure that out; that's a relief for me. Also, we loosely follow a Waldrof curriculum which doesn't promote 'formal leaning' until 7, and yet our teacher manages to identify learning and state standards through our activities. Phew! But I hear you on the frustration about state standards, especially if they keep changing. I appreciate the men and women who constantly strive to improve education. It is a heavy burden. And I'm so tremendously thankful I am in a country and state that honor the freedom to homeschool.

    But we have to return ALL the curriculum including consumables back to the charter school whenever we are done right? Even playdough....I am dissapointed because I want to keep the literature.

    • @PepperandPine
      @PepperandPine  8 лет назад

      Which school are you with? The rules on consumables vary slightly from school to school. Some do not want partially used materials back and others do. Sometimes it's a relief to return all the unused or used curriculum at the end of the year and start with fresh supplies the following year. I like to keep materials for the next kid. Sometimes I get things that don't turn out good or we didn't like them. In that case, you don't feel obligated to keep it since you didn't invest in it. It's a little petty and ridiculous to ask for playdough back in my opinion. If you are going to be with the school long term, invest in anything, if you are going to leave after a year or two, invest in classes.

    • @PepperandPine
      @PepperandPine  8 лет назад

      Hi Chloe! I didn't do a review on the curriculum itself (which is the Live-Education Waldorf curriculum), but I do plan to in the near future, but what I did do was review all the math picture books we used in a two part video. I also have a lot of the geometry projects we did in the form of video tutorials. Here's the math picture book review video:

      I'm a kid in a candy store! One year we homeschooled out-of-state. We filed independently and got nearly everything we needed from the amazing library system in Texas. Didn't spend a dime except on our ASTC museum membership. It doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. Really, I think I have more fun than my kids! lol!
