  • Kevin McCarthy presents the new line-up from American Motors Corp.
    The fact that they are being pushed into place does not inspire confidence.

    Another terrific actor who also excelled at doing voiceovers, the late great Kevin McCarthy.

    Now THAT is a car commercial. Go out there, patriotic music playing, and effectively flip the big 3 the bird.

      @@knowbodiesfull5768 Too bad it wasn't the other way around. Remember the Jeep Truck? Chrysler is now under Renault. Genioun Mopar is history. I would be happy with an American Rambler or a Plymouth Valiant with a slant six. No darned computer chips!

    AMC, the underdog of the auto industry, decent cars with better equipment than most, is it any wonder that the LA police department used Matadors, just watch Adam12

      It's to mimic auto shows. Indoor events require the gas tank be removed before the vehicle is allowed into the building, so everything is pushed around.

      Early 1970s total sales of AMC topped around 1/2 million units (the best ever)....so the ad pushing cars on a stage did not hurt. AMC's problems began by purchasing Jeep and developing the Pacer,that debt left little money to revamp the Hornet Platform to still keep it relevant in the 1980s. Better management and negotiating better deals with the UAW would have certainly helped too.

    AMC built some pretty dependable cars and trucks. Never cared for the Pacer much. AND back when they sold Jeep it was less prone to issues and had less mechanical problems. I miss the simpler days.

    I'm 50 years old and my second car was AMC hornet you had the 8-cylinder 4-speed manual and it was a good car when the big-3 that he mentioned was switching fuel injection around 86 + 87 AMC didn't have the money to compete anymore so as we know they sold out to Chrysler full chest discontinued everything except for the Jeeps I had a brother-in-law in 1986 probably 1970 model on a 3000 mile road trip and had no problems with car was 16 years old at that point and had damn near a hundred thousand miles my dad had a 82 evil 4 wheel drive that was a good car he bought it brand new AMC made some good cars back in the day sure what anybody says

      Chrysler bought AMC from Renault after some commies assassinated the company president (and after several years straight years of losses). By that time the only AMC was the Eagle wagon, which was a 17 year old Hornet body sitting on a Jeep chassis. I don’t think fuel injection had anything to do with it.

    The "for a way a woman uses a car" didn't age well though it is a reminder that more were moms than professionals at the time so designing a car for that purpose made sense. Also a reminder of when domestic cars dominated the market. Do the American names combined even come close to half the market now with a dozen or so foreign brands since 1970 with larger shares than AMC ever had?

    • @11sfr
      @11sfr 11 месяцев назад +1

      Nope, GM, Ford, Stellantis NA, and Tesla are only 46.7% of the market combined, smaller than GM alone was in 1970. Of course, Tesla's 4.4% is actually about a full point higher than American Motors was at that time

      No rust nor dents... Tilt steering, sport steering wheel, mag like wheels, roof rack, 232 I6, automatic, OK it is in need of a paint job but oh well its sharp..!
