This is when Teena went to Epic records after Motown. CBS wanted her to do an album more pop than R&B. This song is so pop like than R&b. I don't think this song was ever even released as a single. Fix it and Dear Lover were the hits from this album. Epic never held on Teena. Kind of sad because Lovergirl was such a hit
What they done was silly, they tried to market her soulful voice to rock or pop audience. When in fact her natural creativity would of.made.her famous.
@@mercygraceful4924 True but it was an 80's attraction for her to sound pop. Weird the song was never really released but I think the video is great. Also, I think most people seem to forget as much as Teena sang from her soul and R&B, her all time favorite song is from the Eagles and one of her legend bands is Led Zeppelin and my understanding anytime they came to LA she WOULD never miss one of their concerts. She was a gem. She just loved music so all this guitar background might be her love for her R and Roll
This song and video are perfect exemplifications of 1980's music video artistry. Fantastic representation of probably the most influential era of world culture.
The idea was to bring Teena doing a pop song but the song I dont think was ever released. It was her first album with CBS record and probablly her first video. This was early 80's and when people really saw that Teena Marie was white. Motown did not want to show her face.
Im today years old finding out theres a video of this jam. I was a fan of Lady T ever since I herd her first album. My dad bought the album when it first came out. No picture of her on the album. No one knew this white lady was singing her ass off and the album was a classic. By then it didn't matter. What matter was she was the truth. Loved her ever since then. Wish she was still here with us. Thank God she left us her wonderful music to remember her by.
@@dennisdonoghue9202 those that watched Soul Train in the late 70s first found out that Teena was white when she performed songs from her debut album (the album that didn’t have her picture on it). Between 1979 and 1981, she appeared several more times on Soul Train, American Bandstand, and Solid Gold. When she signed to Epic Records in 1983, she released Robbery and the title track was her first ever music video, however it was never released as a single. She had better songs that were released as singles like “Playboy” and “Midnight Magnet” that should’ve been videos instead. I think the record company picked the title track being that was the only rock/new wave song on the album hoping it would get picked up by MTV (MTV didn’t play it and if they did, it was on very very light rotation). “Robbery” most likely got a large rotation on BET, HBO Jukebox, and New York Hot Tracks.

Never knew this song had a video, since it wasn't a hit single. I really do like this album though. Some good rock influence with her soulful voice. Robbery wasn't as good as Starchild but it was solid and among my favorite
I like how she mimics the police sirens with her voice leading into the chorus, lol! Vaguely remember this video from my early childhood, looks and sounds like something that wouldn't be out of place on Cyndi Lauper's breakthrough solo debut 'She's So Unusual' from that same year... ;-)
Great video!! I love MIDNIGHT MAGNET from this album!!
One of my favorites!!!
This whole album is so 🔥 I just love it
Yes! My favorite is Playboy.

Lady Tee the Queen! 👑
I can't believe that there is an actual video for this song.

Just bought the vinyl.
Emerald City was a concept album that had so much rock influence that she was inducted into the Headbangers Hall of Fame on the strength of it.
This is my first time seeing this video. Love it

FUCKING BEAST
Not alot of good dancing but it's full of random crap that has nothing to do with anything, and that's why this is a good music video
