- With the amazing Live Composite feature of Olympus cameras we can create intricate light painting images even when it is incredible bright. Here is a quick look at me creating a few images this way.
Peace, Denis

Denis, I truly love this and how simple you made it look. Can you show us more about the light thingy and how you moved it around? ? Great work. From the UK...
Wow very cool, I can't wait till I get this mk3 figured out. I definitely want to try this. Thanks Denis.
🙏
Great video! It really shows what’s possible with Olympus’ Live Composite and its potential, which may only be limited by a photographer’s imagination. Thanks for the video!
Nice video on the this amazing Olympus feature!!
Absolutely amazing!
I’m making my way through comments I haven’t responded to. I get lost sometimes. So sorry for the late reply. Thank you. This was a fun night.
Amazing work Dennis, I use the live composite mode on my lumix s5 to great effect, I watch all your vids dude.... 73s from the u.k
Hey Keith. I am stoked you’re having fun mate 🙏
¡Grandioso!
🙏
Love it !!!.... not sure if any other cameras other than Olympus have live composite ... it’s an enhanced bulb setting where you can see what is being recorded during the exposure..
Awesome! Can you link to the type of light/torch that you used here?
Sure thing www.denissmith.com.au/tools
Great work well done sound difficult to practice plus this light you have not easy to get
Fascinating video -- THANKS!
Is it possible - or have you ever tried - to do a live composite in the daytime? Not really bright Sun of course but on a hazy overcast day -- I'm guessing since 1/2 second is the quickest exposure, one would have to use both tiny aperture and an ND filter. Just curious.
It is possible with a neutral density filter ... happy shooting !!!!
Very interesting experiment. 1/2 seconds for evening, 5 seconds for night. I copy.
Why other object are not showing there like this man
May i ask you do you focus at moon or somewhere else?
Hi Tarim, I focus where the light painting is.
I can understand the basic mechanism of LC, but why there is no image of a person in the photo?
Because the sensor only captures highlights.
It also helps if the person wears dark clothes so the light doesn't reflect onto his/her clothes. Live Capture only captures new lights that are coming in, hence the moon doesn't get over-exposed even if the shutter is opened for an hour. You will see the moon trails however, but it doesn't get brighter.

What the heck is live composite please ? I have been a photography addict for at least 30 years and have never heard of this before.
As far as I know it's unique to Olympus. Others should surely have copied it by now ... it's a way of setting a background image, and then recording only changes in/of light (for the chosen period) afterwards. Olympus makes brilliant cameras and bloody awful manuals, hence the need for explanatory videos by others (like this).
Well u have now? ?
What's the iso setting?
200 - 400..
I need your advice am trying to use live composite in my Olympus em1 mark iii but not active why? although i can reach it from menu but not active when shopping any clue?
dont quite understand the question. There is a full live comp tutorial in the easter island set, have a watch of that,
Did you really need that incredibly annoying background noise??
yes
The magic of modern tech, is you probably have that control yourself. Thanks for taking the time to ask such a fantastic question.
