    With the following variables:
    Study design[unmatched case control study]
    Confidence level[99.9%]
    Power of study[90%]
    Ratio of control[3:1]
    Level of exposure for Contol[120/408 exposed converted to 29.4%]
    Odd ratio was given as[4.5]
    Level of exposure for cases[ The odd ratio actually helps us to get it, when inputed]
    Using Fleiss w/cc
    Cases-55
    Control-163
    Total-218
    the above is the minimum sample size needed for the study.

    its a nice presentation. can we use only one research finding to get a percent of control exposure and odds ratio? how can we calculate sample size if there are different associated factors for our case in different literature? please respond to me

    • @EpiInfoforRookiesE4R
      @EpiInfoforRookiesE4R  5 месяцев назад +2

      Great question. Yes you can use only one research to get the elements needed to calculate the sample size. And if there are different studies you can use the study that gives you the largest sample size. If there are different associated factors, calculate for all the associated factors and use the one that gives you the largest sample size. If the data is from different populations in different regions, use the one for your region or that is closest to your region. I hope this helps?

    • @EpiInfoforRookiesE4R
      @EpiInfoforRookiesE4R  Год назад +1

      Great question Salu! What kind of study are you trying to conduct? If it is a case control study, you can either enter the percent of controls exposed and the Odds ratio or the percentage of cases with exposure. If you enter the percent of cases with exposure , the odds ratio will be computed immediately. I hope this helps?

    How can detect level of confidence and power ?

    • @EpiInfoforRookiesE4R
      @EpiInfoforRookiesE4R  Год назад

      Great question Maha. These are values that are set by the researcher. If you want your results to be more accurate then you increase the level of confidence as well as the power. Naturally when you increase any of the two the sample size will increase. Typically researchers use a confidence level of 95% and a power of 80% for observational studies and 99% and 90% for experimental studies. I hope this helps?
