BYU guy here, there’s a bit of missing context that needs to be added. Yes, the money is a big part of why AJ is choosing BYU, but that’s not the only reason, or even the most important reason. His main reason for going (as he’s stated) is our head coach Kevin Young. If you don’t know, Kevin Young was an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns and received praise from the likes of Kevin Durant, who is AJ’s favorite player. Plus, AJ already lives in Utah, so he was in BYU’s backyard. Saying it was only about the money is a bit disingenuous.
everything you said is true i'm not knocking that, but him living in utah has nothing to do with it, he's from massachusetts , he's only in utah because he goes to utah prep, and the only reason he goes to utah prep is because it's a byu pipeline and he's also getting paid to go utah prep 😭

I find it highly likely that both UNC and Kansas would have matched this NIL offer (Kansas State reportedly BEAT it early in the recruiting process). This wasn't a money-driven decision--if it had been, he would have committed to Kansas State out of the gate. This was about Kevin Young putting together an NBA boot camp staff and an environment that AJ's parents were comfortable with.

EDIT: So I checked and this may not be true, but MJ made at last 60 million adjusted for inflation.
MJ was literally making more money at one point than his entire team combined, were you saying the sport was bad back then? shutup you goober.
Is there an actual reason to "protect" traditional big programs? Why does it have to be a problem, top college atheletes going where they're paid best? It's not like they go college for education and diploma...
Insane.
The probleme c not that are getting paid the probleme is that they wast 7m when american school is crazy expensive for shit class
Tell the school's to cap how much they can make bet they won't no more free rides you got the money they coming I respect it 💯 and if i make more money in college than i would being pick 7 and under I'm heading to home room ✌🏾
What do I think of college students basing their decisions on who’s gonna give them the most NIL money? Same thing I think about college students basing their decisions on who’s gonna give them The most scholarships. Same thing I think about you basing your decisions on which company is gonna pay you the most! If MONEY is a factor in the decision, get the most you can! Pretty simple! Let me guess “but but but , you’re “supposed to” go to college for “school” not “money” “ yeah ok BOOMER! The same schools who base their admissions on which foreign exchange students can PAY THE MOST? Aren’t schools supposed to admit on EDUCATION not Money! ?
Go get your money boss! Don’t let broke people play you out of your EARNED success!
This is an uninformed video; In my opinion. He lives in hurricane Utah, byu has a revamped nba coaching staff and basketball program. The are in the best basketball conference in the nation and AJ has a strong connect to Kevin Young, who at one point was the most recruited nba headcoach (not to mention Kevin young’s brother runs the aau circuits). BYU is about to send two players ro the first round this year (Egor and Kannon) I lived in Lawrence and I promise bill self offer just as much money and I don’t think Aj wanted to play with Boozer or tiller so that kinda removes duke and Kansas as options. This is good for college basketball just like it was for college football this season has been electric. This was a bad take. Player get paid what they are worth and BYU is going to do wonders for AJ with how perfect the stars aline for him
This will ruin basketball watch
Why? Do you watch Euroleague or G-league only, because they're the only losing out here with these kids playing at college instead of going overseas or to G-league.
@ people are born into sin , and 18 yr old kid who comes into a lot of money will compromise his work ethic and heart ,
@@Sonofgodinchrist Will they be committig those sins on the court, if the watching experience is being ruined?
@@konzza I’m saying went an immature kid gets that money it will change them because we are born into sin , we all evil desires .
Are you arguing that there should be some type of College Basketball/ College Football salary cap? What should the number be if $7 million is too much? Maybe the NBA should pay their rookies more?
Did the rule changes that the NBA made after Chris Webber's contract or the NFL made after Sam Bradford's contract make their leagues or players better?
I have no idea... 🤷♀ I do know that the Mets overpaid for Jaun Soto!!! 🤣
NIL is a joke it’s ruined college football. Basketball is soon to follow
Kinda disgusting they are using Mormon tithing money to pay for this
they aren't
Paid by LDS tithing funds??
While I agree with what you’re getting at about the 1 and done, the NIL structure ISNT for the one and done guys and gals. It’s for the ones that won’t ever play in the pros but have gotten used without seeing a cent of what value they bring. (The 4-5 year athletes come back to reality)
That Mormon money is crazy
Strongly agree on having a salary cap on all college sports. Would legitimize and level the playing field
Why should the playing field be levelled?
I will never understand the US mentality with sports.
In every other facet of life and business, it's strictly ultra capitalist "everyone for himself" and survival of the fittest, but when it comes to sports it's all communist uncompetitive "destribute all the assets equally and protect the weak teams. 🤷🏽♂️
@@BasketballBusiness Can't understand the US way of thinking. Every other part of society is ultra capitalist "every man for himself", but sports is as communist as it gets. Each team must have level playing field, all the resources distributed evenly failure rewarded by better draft picks.
Imagine expanding this line of thinking colleges in general. Putting a cap on professors salaries, and demanding every college having equal spread of top professors. Sounds crazy, right?
Im glad he's signing with a smaller school like BYU. For too long the largest college programs have dominated player recruitment and laid foundations for an unequal college sports landscape
Hate NIL but it benefits SMU so whatever
One and done rule def needs to go away
Get paid
They need to also fix the transfer portal as well. It's being abused.
We haven't seen many players as selfish as this dude, but at least he's being HONEST about it. When he was interviewed by SAS, he was asked, why did you choose BYU. His response, "My goal is to get to the NBA". Notice. He didn't say he wanted to win a title, wanted to win at all, liked the program, liked the fan base, wanted to develop. NOPE! Then he said he liked the coaches because they were all about, wait for it, the NBA. This dude has BOTH feet out the door already and couldn't care less if BYU loses every game next year. And what he didn't say is, they paid me more than anyone else, before I go take a pay cut as an NBA rookie. It's ALL about the money for this dude. Ben Simmons 2.0
I’m sorry but no college athlete is worth 7 mil a year. That’s almost nba mid leavel money. AJ needs to have a Carmelo type year in order to be worth anywhere close to this
What is crazy is that random dude over the internet, thinks he is qualified to determine the value of any these kids.
Well, it’s not like this hasn’t been the case for YEARS in particular programs. Ahem, duke, conn, unc, Kansas, vandy etc etc
