- My UPCAT story is actually more of a testimony. I ran out of time on one of the subtests, and I had four columns left unanswered.

My high school classmates who took the exam with me were firsthand witnesses to my after-UPCAT misery . When I got home and my parents nervously asked me how my exam went, I told them "Huwag na po tayo masyado umasa Nay, Tay..." I almost choked on the muddle of my words and emotions when I had to explain to them why my big dream of going to UP was most probably going to be just that--a dream.
But fast forward to 2020 and here I am, sharing my UPCAT story--or rather, my UPCAT testimony. ❤️💚

UP (specifically Diliman) just makes me feel these feelings more than what I should feel. Ang daming aspect sa sarili ko na biglang bubukas tuwing iniisip ko sya. Like, every day, every night, I always visualize myself physically there. And as I review for UPCAT, that, as well as my will and determination always push me to be up in the morning, attend my classes, study more, understand more, everything MOREE than what I thought I could ever give. I've been waiting for this moment for the past 5 years and I'm not going to waste all of that just to dream about it. I want it there. I want that moment where I can touch it and claim it as my own. I don't believe that if its for you, sayo din maibibigay yon, I believe more in the thought of making my own destiny. Cuz in the end of the day, you'll realize that you, yourself, did all of that because you did it, not with anyone's plan but you. Wag aasa o maghihintay na lamang sa kung ano sa tingin mo ang deserve mo. Make it and own it and let's see what would it feel like.

Just wanted to give my thoughts on what you said regarding making one's own destiny. Maybe we just really differ in our views, but I'd just like to clarify that while I do believe in destiny (ergo, my statement in the video "If it's for you, then it's for you"), I also do believe that we should actively take part in shaping it--not just lie around and wait for it to happen.
Then again, no matter how hard we try to get everything under our control, sometimes we just can't. I gave my 100% in the UPCAT, but I couldn't do anything about those four columns. Still, I passed. After more than ten years since those UPCAT results came out, I still can not fathom how and why.
Going back to 2019 when I took the board licensure examination for teachers (LET), I really took charge. If I gave my 100% in the UPCAT, I'm gonna say I gave my 1000% for the LET. I studied LIKE CRAZY. Because I wanted to top, not just pass. I desperately wanted to give my parents (especially my Tatay who spent 10 years working as an OFW in Saudi) another proud, shining moment. I can't even begin to explain how hard I studied for that exam. Piniga ko ng sobra. Lahat ng kaya kong ibigay, binigay ko. Lahat ng kaya kong ibuhos, binuhos ko. When the results came out, my board rating lacked ~2% for me to make it to the topnotchers list.
So I guess, if it's really for me, then it's for me. And if not, well...at least I learned a lot from the process. 🙂
We are different people with different life circumstances. As a teacher, I am always rooting for my students to succeed--and I wanna say I'm also rooting for you. Your path may be different from mine, but as long as it's a dignified and honest path, and it takes you to where your heart truly belongs, I wish you well. 💕🌷
And like I always keep telling my students--go go go, fighting! 🌻

Nung nag-UPCAT ako, may isang part din akong nakalimutan. Hindi ko alam na meron pa sa likod! Haha! Hinulaan ko yung part na yun, two columns yata yun or more😭 Sa UPLB ako mismo nag-exam kasi nandun yung ate ko, tapos sa crop prot lecture hall ako nag-exam. Umuulan pa nun so ang lamig sa loob. Well, yun, hindi ako nakapasa pero mataas yung grade ko kaya nakapagwaitlist ako. So if there's anyone who is unsure, don't worry kasi may waitlist option pa. You can also transfer to UP if your grade is high enough. Don't lose hope! The real struggle in UP is getting out after all. Even months after graduating, I would still have this rush in my mind na may klase ako or hindi pa ako grad or may kulang pa akong requirement. It's crazy! Can I call it withdrawal symptom? 🤣

Ako naman pinakamababa kong grade ay yung sa Reading Comprehension. :(
Tapos di ako kasali sa list ng qualifiers (yung nakapost sa internet) so ayun nalungkot ako pero di ko rin naman ineexpect na makapasa sa UP. Pero weeks after the result may dumating saking letter, sabi dun na di ako nakapasa sa Campus at Course na gusto ko pero pwede ako pumasok sa course na gusto ko na pasok sa grade ko. Sa batch namin yung Valedicatorian, Salutotorian at ako lang ang nakapasa sa UP. hahaha
Pinagpilian ko ang Nutrition or Forestry. I chose the latter since madami din akong kamag anak na nag Forestry. The rest is history...... waitlisted sa Forestry with interview pa. haha
Sameee! 21 items hindi ko nasagot, I didn't expect to pass as well! I was congratulating other people before I checked my application status, but I did! I was soooo happy!

I am waitlisted for available slots in UPCAT 2020. Medyo kabado kasi first of all, it is my dream school but I also wanted to achieve my dream program. Ngayong waitlisted ako, without assurance na yung matitirang slots ay close enough sa BSA, or kung may matitira bang slots sa BSA. And in the midst of pandemic, wala akong makuhaan ng infromation how or when the enrollment for the qualified will start, so kailan kaya kaming waitlisted? But anyways, alam ko namang kung para sa akin, nasa tabi ko lang si Lord.

when i took upcat, i can't think of anything and i don't want to guess the answers because it will be deducted so i left it blank instead. most of it are from math and science subtest. after the test, i lost hope that i will pass upcat.
so when the results came out, i just wanted to check the result to see my upg and see how i did in the exam....
but i passed. i was shocked that i was crying. up is really my dream, and it such a big opportunity for me to pass the exam.
now, the only thing i need to decide is whether to really pursue up or go to a nearer college in our province and take the most practical course my parents think of.

Jester Donguines Yeah, the proctor writes the time on the board, but since I was having fun answering the English part, I didn't pay any attention to the time anymore; ergo, I ran out of time.
I left the columns blank. Too risky to guess the answers because UPCAT is right minus wrong (for every four mistakes, one point will be deducted from the scores).
