  • Here's a new long-form video from me, very little talking but easy to follow step by step processes. I had a really bad exhaust leak in my 2006 Lexus GS300. I have clips of me driving it around and you can hear just how loud it was. My repair didn't go as planned. At the end of this story, I had to take it to my mechanic for some welding work. See what happened.

Congrats on getting your 06GS to 200K+ miles! It seems that exhaust leak is a common problem w/the GS. Keep us up to date on your fix.
My 06GS with only 110K miles had an exhaust leak in 2018 in bank-1, half an inch before the downstream O2 sensor. A carX place charged $160 to weld in a new pipe to replace a rusted section. But the Check VSC and check engine light didn't go away.
I spent the next 10mos chasing recurring error codes P0102 (MAF error), P0113 (air temp sensor error), P0420 (bank 1 catalyst error), even the P0306 (misfired cylinder 6). I replaced the MAF, the gas cap, all the spark plugs, all the ignition coils, the upstream and downstream O2 sensors for both bank1 and bank2. I cleaned the air distributor and checked all the vacuum hoses for leaks or loose connections. I even followed Scotty's advice multiple times to clean the fuel injection nozzles with lacquer thinner in the gas tank. All without success. My mechanic was puzzled. All the errors went away when I went back to the beginning and REALLY fixed the leak; the CarX fix left a pinhole exhaust leak. That one pinhole was causing all those check engine errors!
And then 6mos later, those check engine lights popped up again. The same weld sprung another pinhole exhaust leak. Again, all the errors went away when the leak was plugged ... again.
Hope your fix has better lucks than mine was.

Listen to this guy. I did and I saved a bunch of money on my car insur...err, laptop repair. Seriously though, I truly did save myself $142.50 by replacing the broken DC jack in my laptop. Watching this guy helped set me on the path towards self-reliance. :)
