    For the folks who think finding tiny flakes is a waste of time: Read a book. You clearly don't grasp the basic concept of prospecting or GRAVITY. Finding color in your pan tells you that somewhere upstream there is a source of gold. Keep panning upstream until you suddenly stop finding gold. Somewhere between your last productive pan and your first empty pan lies Mr. Pocket. Prospecting is all about finding Mr. Pocket. Each one of you who think Stooony is wasting his time mean one less idiot looking for Mr. Pocket, and that's just fine with us regular prospectors. What is the difference between a miner and a prospector? The miner has found Mr. Pocket while the prospector is following his trail.

    Guessing you had a bunch of flakes smaller than that which were lost.
    Prob need to scuff it up with sandpaper, add some moss or Velcro right after the mouth, then maybe put a curve in the middle and add some more moss or Velcro again at that spot. Also, it looked like the water may have been moving a little aggressively.
    Still, I LOVE the idea! Especially if you can use a telescoping material, making it highly portable for hiking into the mountains. Thanks for sharing, hope you’ve continued the good work.

    The beauty how it is you can have 10 of these sitting there in the Stream 10 Scoops in by the time you come back to the first one it will have finished. And you'll have 10 times as much gold produced the same amount of time plus well River does its work on the snail you can do the painting of the concentrated stuff. Your time by a factor of 10. And your income by a factor of 10

    I LOVE your idea. I have been prospecting for gold for about 40 years. Great Ideas like this are what make prospecting so much fun. I read the comments over the years since you posted this. A bunch of haters sitting at home. You are the one breathing the fresh air. Its not about the gold I find, but the time I had looking for it. ( except the gold is realllly nice)I am planning on making one of these asap with a little tweeks. Keep prospecting its the only way you find it!!!!! P.S..> you need to come to Montana, we have great streams for this. ( guarantee more then one flake)

    I just made 3 of those out of black piping. Too bad I gotta wait 2 - 3 months to try it out. I had this pipe all summer and didn't know what to do with it, til now. It took me 15 minutes for 1, cause I didn't cut the pipe in half, I made 4 X 20 inch holes to see what's going on. I got alot of dirt to move, now I know how without breaking your back.

    what is preventing the flake gold from being washed away...because airplane wings are heavier then air but they fly because of the surface resistance forces...there is no "calm" place for them to hide after they drop out...i like the idea but maybe you could put a bead or caulk or something for the gold to hide behind or maybe the same style with like virdee said with some velcro at the bottom of the riffles

    • @davidscurlock1
      @davidscurlock1 11 лет назад +2

      the only REAL way to test is to put some actual gold into your gravel and have it run into a "safety" pan in case you lose some and weigh it before and after it should be the same

    I also don't want to offend anyone, because I agree, it seems to be a great idea, that possibly could be perfected in some way, to catch more gold. My only issue was the fact that it would take a life time to pay for the 10$ piece of corrugated pipe, if you can only catch one little spec after what, maybe an hours worth of time. Maybe it would work in an area that actually had some gold, so that's why i'm not knocking the idea at all. He just seemed to be really excited over the one little spec after all that time invested.

    • @stooony1380
      @stooony1380  11 лет назад +4

      No offense taken HuntnGamecock as I have thick skin lol. In my defense when I made this video back in 2012 I had just started prospecting so yes I was excited to find even just a speck. Where I am at here in Ohio there is not much gold to speak of so you are correct in saying that it would take a lifetime to pay for that pipe. My only problem now is that I recently bought a small suction dredge and that's going to take 1000 lifetimes to pay for. I really need to move. Thanks for watching and the comment none the less.

    Funny thing about gravity is it is a theory...Easy concept to grasp is a thing called bouancy..if it's lighter than air it floats, if it is heavier than air..u get the picture. But your snail sluce invention is amazing my friend.

    • @dragmasanimation
      @dragmasanimation 6 лет назад +1

      You are an idiot. A scientific theory is as close to fact as possible, and more importantly, buoyancy doesn't exist without gravity.

    • @jvedra9041
      @jvedra9041 6 лет назад

      Gravity is tremendously easy to grasp if you have even the slightest bit of knowledge about space time topology.
      Stretch a piece of fabric over a bucket so it’s as loose as possible but appears flat. Secure it with rope or bungee chords. Put a rock in the middle that’s heavy enough to make it sag but not fall through. Toss some bb’s or tiny rocks on it, and watch them “fall” towards the big rock. That’s basically how gravity works. You even used gravity to model gravity.
      a theory isn’t a hypothesis. One is an informed prediction, the other is proven by attacking it relentlessly with repeatably PREDICTABLE results. That’s why science works. It’s competitive, and everyone is literally trying to PROVE everyone else wrong. There is always another team somewhere in the world trying to prove you wrong for money, prizes, tenure, or recognition. There is never a team somewhere trying to prove you right, there’s no reward in that.

    think the best test you can do to see if one sluice is better then the other is running the sluice to be tested in front of a allready proven sluice (putting them so the offall runs from one sluice intoo the other)
    if theres colour in the proven sluice it means that the sluice youre testing doesnt catch all the cold being run through it
    the idea could work but i think the rifflepart needs to be flatter and wider , i think you still runing a lot of the gold out the end
    you can make a regulair sluice fit a dufflebag by making it from pvc gutter pieces fit one intoo the other and tape them together with gaffa tape then run a roll of miners moss over it and then some small sheets of corugated mesh same length as the pieces of gutter
    prolly could hold everything down with some copper wire run through holes in the pvc and twisted together
    prolly need to experiment a littje with angle and maibe riffles to controll the waterflow but i think it would work better than wat youre using now
    yes it works but think of the time you spend shoveling the dirt ontoo it and the worth of the speck of gold

    Do you still use this sluice? It would be interesting to take the sand out of each quarter of the sluice, or each third of the sluice and pan them separately. I would think most of the gold would be in the first two-thirds to three-quarters of the sluice and not much at the end. if there is a lot of gold in the last quarter of the sluice, you may be losing gold as those ripples fill up.
    You're probably better off with a well designed sluice.

    How about putting an ounce of gold in a bucket of material then mixing it up and then run it through your new sluice to see if it is catching all it can? Test it before you trust it. Just like you would a newly cut key. You have heard don't count your chickens before they hatch. Well, how about a review before you count your nuggets? I will watch that before considering to build or buy one of your snail. Don't mean to be a negative nelly. Just looking for a good sluice. Thanks for Posting.

    I feel like maybe if you slow the flow a bit when you first dump in the dirt it would be more effective... everyone knows gold is heavy and sinks fast but not if there's clay and sand stuck to it... anyways awesome idea I'm gonna go make this myself
