my biggest weakness is drawing and cutting strait lines .... dirk tells me the edge of tape is straight......lol and the flat clear they tell people that so they dont have to stock a slow selling paint but now you tell them watch it will start selling..... Thanks for the message Chris , Always a pleasure... :)
You are certainly the master of a spray can and your awesome at what you do plus your well know in the RC community all round the world, love your work, Great video thanks for sharing it with us.
Very helpful info that will be useful when I decide to tackle my first painting project. I have a lot of rattle can experience painting plastic models when I was a kid (as well as some "custom" touches on my 1:1 Jeep), still wrapping my head around the technique of painting from the inside ("top" layers first) but I'm always up for learning something new.
Always a professional even since the first time I saw you back in 2011.. I wish I would of kept a record of my designs and bodies I'm sure you would of liked.. when did you come up with your name 'hemistorm '?
Hope you see this comment, considering how old this vid is... But I wanted to say that ever since coming across this and several other of your videos that cover painting in a very general sense, I've been following your channel. Perhaps I've missed a few gems, but it just doesn't seem like you don't make posts like this anymore. Perhaps that's simply because you've already covered anything/everything that might be covered... I don't know... Painting is something that is difficult for most peoples - and you are obviously very, very good at it. Hope this makes sense!
Toffe video! Bedankt!
Hey man great info. Don't know if you ever tried it but I use plasti dip to give me an alternate look on the outside of my bodies for an example I used it to get the plastic fender look on my jeep ranger body
recently went to my lhs and they were insistant that coating the inside with ps flat clear then using ts paint on top would result in the ts paint eating away at the ps paint. I wanted to try urban camo on a hummer body but the ps colour range is limited. love your vids btw, youre an inspiration and a funny buggar as well!
great tips Chris. I still use body scissors. just picked up Team EDS scissors. lol. ps55 is discontinued in the states, but can be ordered from uk for about $40 a can. lol.
I can't believe people are having such a hard time getting their hands on the PS55 over in the US, I can't be the only one who uses this stuff in almost every project. I think we should collectively email Tamiya and make them supply it in the States again.
Chris, I'm using PS-15 Red metallic for my rig, just hearing from your video, metallic should be backed with black. How many coats do you put in this case?
The red is a bit tricky as it stays fairly opaque. You can back that one with a silver too, to make it pop more. My advise would be to try both and see what works best for what you have in mind for the car.
does it really matter using a breathing mask when were smokers.lol.also do u paint in home or a special room?the fumes just seem to linger for days when i cannot paint outside.
Smoking or not smoking, of course it helps. I'm a hardcore smoker, but I can't stand the paint fumes for too long. I paint in my kitchen, with the fan on full speed. Never had a problem with the fumes lingering.
One thing I would add is if you're using multiple florescent (or not fully opaque) colors you should back with white between each color so that they don't effect each other (I've made that mistake before!)
Whenever I paint the last coat, I spray really lightly and far away. It makes the inside polycarbonate paint rougher, and more durable to scratches within he body :-)
Hoi Joery!
Thanks for the video, really amazing skills you have. Btw do you have a link for the lamp? ebay or amazon? cant seem to find it, and would love to get one.
Quality tip on the TS paint over a PS55 undercoat I bought lots of cans wrongly not checking if they were Polycarbonate paints.. Metallic first will save me some black/white paint too.. On my last shell I found anodised aluminium backed with clear yellow then silver gives a champagne effect with a different accent colour, by mistake I might add but good effect ``o=o¬ RCYAL8R

Thanks for the tips and tricks, Chris. Your trophy truck came out awesome 👍
Thank you, glad you like how that one turned out.

It is a ton of fun, Steve. You need to basically think the other way around. It is a bit of a puzzle.
You're a comedy genius XD you make almost everything entertaining!
Glad to hear that!
Interesting and educational as always! I'm always looking forward to your next clip, build or paintjob! Keep it up Chris! MANY thumbs up!
Thank you buddy, I hope it helps.

Another cool vid. Thnx man!
Maybe you could also paint some of the black plastic on the trophy truck? Like the exhaust?
I can do that, the TT isn't completely finished up yet.
Great video👍🏼 Thanks for all this good info. Keep up the great work!

Good to hear that, Ryan!
Awesome video mate! i will use these tips on my next builds
I hope they will come in handy!
Cool..
Well done..!
Love the ps-49. That's the color I used to paint my jeep Cherokee body. Closest color I could get to the color of my real jeep Cherokee.
Cool color for sure! Just finished painting up my SCX 102 body, was a very fun project to dive into.
Thumbs up!
As always, thanks.
Right back at you, thank you for all the support. :)
Great tips, thanks!

I'm happy to read that, Tom!
Thumbs up!

I've heard people using that quite often and may look into that in the future.

Just give the TS over PS trick a try. Glad to see you are enjoying the videos!

Great vid like always. How do you do your sanding?
On the edges of the body I use the Protoform Better Edge tool.

great idea. I currently use Spazstix no shine. check out my last paint vid, if you get a chance.
I think you've used it on the vinyl looking roof haven't you? That lid came out sweet!
ah, you've seen the vid. thanks.
Hey Chris, are you still using the 3M 2367 tape? I can’t find it anymore and I’m out... :-(
Dude how do you get your cuts so sharp and straight I can’t
I would love to learn how to do this! I have only tried solid colors.
Just go and experiment. It's great fun!

I will try it in a spare lexan part. thanks for the tip.

PS. nice vids that you make
Hoi Joery!
Here's some useless info Eddings OHP stands for "Over Head Projector" school teachers use them. Thanks for the videos very helpful and entertaining.
That IS actually useful, I just learned something! Thanks Wally. :)
could you talk about backing colors and other things like that.
Sure thing, I'm pretty convinced there will be a ton of info in the videos ahead.

Btw do you have a link for the lamp? ebay or amazon? cant seem to find it, and would love to get one.
They should be available at for example home depot. Good luck!
Are you going to get the losi baja rey?
Maybe, not sure yet.
Great video as usual, you truly are an awesome inspiration!

And that's what it's all about, Gareth! Just trying out stuff to see what works and what perhaps doesn't work.
How would you make a carbon fiber print on a sc truck body
Greatly depends if you just want to do certain sections or not. If so, I think I'd use old jeans to get the effect.
lol i saw a couple of videos from you and i already thought you are dutch hearing your r's and now you confirmed it lol btw dutch too
Very Dutch and in constant craving for FEBO and Haring!
