  • 💡When comedians rehearse their jokes as if they are scenes, your mind remembers them like they are real events. Then you can tell your material, jokes, as stories, which is how you've been funny your entire life. Memorizing just the words to say is not how you've been funny since you were a kid. Why screw up what you do naturally?

    Very interesting. I’ve used some hand gestures with my bits, but I haven’t taken the process as far as he showed here. I certainly will have to try this. Thank you.

      Simple version. Create a scene or picture for everything you say and do.

    I'm having trouble finding my voice. I have my material but even a good joke said in the wrong way doesn't work I'm not sure how to get the crowd to relate to me if I can't find my voice I'm sorry if it makes no sense what I'm saying but if you do understand please give me feedback

    Hey Greg, watching this video I have to ask; are you familiar with the "inner game of tennis book"?

    • @gregdeancomedy
      @gregdeancomedy  5 лет назад +3

      I have heard of it, but not read it. This video demonstrates the Rehearsal Process I teach in my workshops and published in my book Step by Step to Stand-Up Comedy. It's based on the NLP ideas that we remember in pictures, sounds, feelings (PSF), therefore I invented this process so everything, jokes and routines, are acted out as scenes so you can remember it in PSF. The result is that you are always telling a story from normal memory, rather than memorizing the words and repeating them. Memorized words is the wrong software for the mind and causes the mind, personality, and sense of humor to change to presentations mode, rather than telling a story where the audience enters the sensory movie of your show. Hope that helps.

      @@gregdeancomedy Okay, thanks for elaborating. Your teaching method is very similar to that of Timothy Gallwey, the sport psychologist behind that book.

    But isn’t this more complicated though? It’s the same thing as memorizing the words loosely so the visualization can be acted out. You’re saying the inverse-remember the visualization so the words will come to mind to act out. Either way, the eyes will go down and to the left to recall what was remembered.

    • @gregdeancomedy

      If you act out the people and things you're in your material there's np need to look down to the left for self talk as you can see the scene of the material and that will remind you of what to say. It a very different mental process between self talk and visualization to language.
