  • A quick winter shore dive spearfishing here in Southern California.
    My buddy Rich called me up to spot him as he went for fish. I was more interested in staring at fish this dive. In this video, I just wanted to show the various species you'll find during a dive.
    Dive safe!

    I totally get the frustration ,It’s basically two way choices at PV coz the thick kelp bed like this, you go with float line your float got tangle behind and you dive down, line too short, pulls you, the fish school laughed and you and flashed away. You go with reel, the line got pull, and it stuck like your friend. Cutting and making shot line knot is not fun in water neither. I have tried both, both sucks. Sometimes to the point that I just wanna get out off water and go for a drink. Well, Good days and bad days.

      I always say, the kelp enhances your mind. If you go in annoyed it amplifies it. Time to meditate. If you’re not annoyed, your mind is good.

    Cool video!
    I can’t believe your buddy Richie did such a big line mess on that tiny sheeps😜😂🤫….
    Jk, I know sometimes u have to give it plenty of line when u have a bad shot, so they don’t tare up on the initial run. He landed the fish, that’s what matters 😉🤟

      @@castandspear it really depends, how little further out down to 7-8 meters it opens up pretty good. But really 7 out of 10 times I dive there it’s instant good viz from that little cove you enter, that’s why I love it so much better than honeymoon or Christmas tree. Oh and that shark, he’s no stranger there, him and sevengild are locals there. And seals always too

      @@castandspear they are more aggressive than soupfin, one time i was bite by a 6 foooter on my fin four times from below I thought I was hitting rock but there were 10 meters deep. He circled me 3 times and charged. I poked him on the snout and he gone. He was after the 7 fishes on my hip.

    Wet suit? You don’t need a wet suit. Humans were made to swim in cold water. That’s why we have brown fat in hour core for generating heat. Check out the Wim Hof method. Awesome video.

    • @castandspear
      @castandspear  2 года назад +2

      I’m a big proponent of ice baths and I’ve done Wim Hof. There is some thing about being comfortable for a long duration especially when you’re hunting tho. Until I reach Wim’s level I’m gonna have to use a wetsuit 😂

      @@castandspear True. You can start training by taking a crazy hot shower for ten minutes then switching over to pure cold. It feels good and starts waking up your cold powers.

    Also, how did you know it was going to be good vis? New to diving socal and have gone out 3x just to see 3ft vis unfortunately. What are the conditions that indicate good vis?

    • @castandspear
      @castandspear  2 года назад +2

      It’s a crap shoot. I usually wait for 1-2ft swell for a day or so. Low to high tide. You can generally tell from the cliff if it’s going to be ok if you can see rocks under the water. Low winds is a good thing. Dive safe!

    • @SpearFactor
      @SpearFactor 2 года назад +2

      Santa Ana winds usually provide great visibility. Also, stay away from runoffs for rivers, areas with loose sediment landscape. Rocky area tend to have visibility
