She acknowledges that on the onset, she even says it's problematic that she is chosen to speak on behalf of an entire religion which is largely made up of people of colour.. However, at the end she explains why it's important that she, of all people, should speak up. She says because her whiteness, middle classless gives her an unfair platform that most muslims don't have. She's weaponising her privilege to relay the thinking of other people, POC, as she says clearly in her speech. She doesn't claim to be bring up anything new rather using her privilege to amplify the voices of others. That's my take on it. Personally, I think it's problematic, albeit justified.. Have just read the profile of this woman. She is currently a Research Associate at SOAS, in the Department of the Languages and Cultures of the Near and Middle East and is studying for a DPhil at Oxford University in Oriental Studies focused on Islamic political movements in Morocco
Bravo for her! But her studies have little to do with the innocent people in the West where she lives.
Since her Quran is the core of her newfound religion, why does she not concentrate her studies on this book and write a DPhil about the goodwill, peace and unity this book brings to humanity?
