    wow - food for thought! so many interesting comments to read. it saddens me though, that some of them seem to be angry, and re active rather than calm, measured and rational. if we can't even tolerate a white oxford student asking us to give up our comfort zone and consider her arguments logically, then what hope is there for the rest of us?!?

    • @Ayas759
      @Ayas759 6 месяцев назад +1

      How can you recognise what she’s saying as a Christian? Christianity was created and edited to suit white people. Your statement itself, like the Bible is a contradiction. Exodus 21:20 talks about beating your slave and killing them with no punishment. Ezikial 23:20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose sperm was like that of horses. Muslim women are more honoured in Islam and most often people confuse Christian laws with Muslim laws. You want to make strides on addressing inequality? You must abandon the Bible as you have it today and Christianity as it’s just an old pagan religion tailored for white people, unpreserved, contradictory and evidently changed with hundreds and hundreds of faults, errors and forgery’s that is undeniably proven to be man made.

    Turkey has no gender pay gap. The gender pay gap is highest for white, upper class, highly educated, wealthy women with good jobs. Thus the wealthiest demographic and most privileged women in the world are also the greatest victims. Intersectional feminism, bringing discrimination back and making it fashionable again.

    • @AlexSmith-gr4hp
      @AlexSmith-gr4hp 8 лет назад +2

      My point is not that I am against equality. My point is that feminism, despite it's stated ideals, actually promotes inequality. The analogy would be noting that Christianity seeks to be the final word on morals yet on a political level seeks to deny homosexuals the right to marry and on a practical level within the Catholic church has been known to harbor and protect child molesters. Just like Christianity, feminism is a collective movement and has done many wonderful things, but right now and in the west it is doing more harm than good. e.g. actively blocking equal parenting legislation and support for men's health services to name just two.

    "I am muslim"
    and
    "I smash the patriarchy"
    is like trying to mix water and oil.
    The oil drops just resurface and join again. Besides, why destroy one of the few rational things in Islam based on the natural balance of things.
    What these two very much have in common though is their ability to confuse the average people.

    50 seconds in the speaker makes an obnoxiously typical statement "I am representative of [group]."
    The first error is that she claims to _be_ representative of, rather than claiming that she represents X groups. The second error is that identifying with a group is not the same as representing it. The third error is that sharing traits in common is not representation. Her statements are typical examples of the vacuous, slippery weasel-word soup that is Feminist jargon.
    Her arguments are without exception, novelty, or insight, the standard canned Radical Feminist argument which are comprised of nothing but countless unsubstantiated assertions and flimsy hazards at tenuous connections. She has not missed a single buzzword, or key-concept, and has not deviated an inch from the politically correctly phrased dogma.
    "The Feminism that I relate to is..." sounds much like "My god is..." She could have more accurately said "I accept the tenets of Radical Feminism." Her entire argument is akin to a Baptist Christian pontificating that Pentecostals aren't in touch with reality.
    Oxford is reputed to be among the very finest of educational academies. I am flabbergasted that this debater rivals the sheer inanity of a 12th century cleric arguing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, and is an Oxford educated adult. Has Oxford abandoned all standard of critical thinking?

      Have just read the profile of this woman. She is currently a Research Associate at SOAS, in the Department of the Languages and Cultures of the Near and Middle East and is studying for a DPhil at Oxford University in Oriental Studies focused on Islamic political movements in Morocco
      Bravo for her! But her studies have little to do with the innocent people in the West where she lives.
      Since her Quran is the core of her newfound religion, why does she not concentrate her studies on this book and write a DPhil about the goodwill, peace and unity this book brings to humanity?
      The Quran is nothing but a book of violence aimed at dominating the West.
      How do you radicalise a muslim? Simple! Go read the Quran and obey every word it literally teaches. Hence we have the birth of ISIS who are doing just that!
      I have read the Quran and have struggled to find a single peaceful verse.
      So there you go Ms. Cerrah, go and do some research work on your Q and come back and tell us the "good news" it preaches.
      If it did then there would be no ISIS, no Sunni, no Shia no niqab/burqua/, no 72 virgins and no suicide belts.

      Oh I think I understand. Disagreeing with you makes people mean and (almost) misogynstic.
      I understood that already I think. That's why I try not to talk to feminists in real life. At least not say anything true (and thus offensive).

    This is just plain wrong. Middle class white women, most of them racist, started the feminist movement and women of color joined this sorority and found that they were not well received. Furthermore, when you look at every major index of well-being, women of color tend to be doing better than men of color. For example, in the US black women outperform their male counterparts in primary, secondary and college education. They are less likely to be incarcerated than their male counterparts. They are less likely to die from violence and live longer lives than their male counterparts.

However, at the end she explains why it's important that she, of all people, should speak up. She says because her whiteness, middle classless gives her an unfair platform that most muslims don't have. Educated, privileged, exceptionally well-mannered and beautiful... and totally complicit in totalitarian denial of basic human rights. To say nothing of the horror that 'denial' often entails.

Even the White house is White, even the greek statues were painted white. You can be wite of skin but do not identify with white culture, just as she is, or just as I am, born white and in a I live in European country but I do not identify with white culture because it is politicized and is used to create divide and its supremacy and dominion.

      "Quran, a continuation of the Scriptures,"
      Nope, It (the Quran) is a futile attempt at trying to convince the civilised world that it has more to offer mankind when clearly it is in contradiction to the scriptures.
      " has one purpose and that is, to bring glad tidings n as a warning " Warning? What warning has Mohammed broughtrought that YESHUA of the scriptures did not?
      " Read it in its proper context" Indeed there is no context. It is nothing but a mish mash of words lumped together that can best be described as a notebook of Mohammed's sayings in his delirious hallucinations during the last 23 years of his life!

    She does like the sound of her own very pompous self important voice. Muslim women DO NOT need a pompous person like her, whatever their colour speaking for them with her very opinionated nonsense. I would imagine many Muslim cringe, they don't need her self important rubbish.
