    Resistance = (rho x length)/sectional area.
    Copper rho = 1.7x10^-8 ohm meter.

    Can you terminate alligator/crocodile clips on them?

      Only for short term applications when you are watching them in my opinion. Ring terminals or bussbars of adequate size are the only things I would recommend.

    The 2000w inverter example is questionable as the stated load doesn't include inverter losses (efficiency)or voltage drop from source. Example given will probably interrupt 175amp fuse if inverter is operated at or near full load for more than a few minutes

      Four years, 25,000 miles, same fuse, you assume that I run it at 2000 watts, I don’t. 1500 regularly though.

    I purchased I 2000 watt reliable inverter. Why would they give you 6 gauge wires for the connection to the battery

      I cant answer for someone else, but my guess is cost. please be careful to check not only wire size but temperature rating and fuse the wire under the amp rating for the wire regardless of your inverter rating. The fuse belongs as close to the battery as possible. If you cant determine the rating, replace the cables. Good cables cost about 90 bucks. It isn't worth dying for 90 bucks. I cant stress enough that the fuse must be the weakest link in the circuit. If your inverter san deliver 200 amps, and you fuse is rated at 190 amps, and your cables are rated for 100 amps, guess which one melts? The cable.

      Your RV Freedom thanks for your help. I’m at the ‘what the hell did I get myself into’ stage of my solar install. So much conflicting info for the diy guys. Inverter manuals are useless.

      Your RV Freedom your right. It is a lot to take in but thanks to guys like you, I can eliminate stupid and expensive mistakes before they happen. I really want to do this right and I am confident I can do that now. Thx for your help.

      6awg for a 2000w inverter is grossly undersized (assuming 12vdc) should be 2/0 at a minimum depending on cable length

    Thanks for the video. I will check into the wires that I want to purchase for a 1000 watt inverter.

    Fantastic thank you! My inverter is 2000W, and it say it can briefly peak to 4000W for a few seconds under load. Am I ok using 1/0 cabling? Else I should go up to support around 333 amps! Also my batteries are all far apart, and I can't move them, so my cables may need to be up to 2 to 3 metres long. So thicker may be safer. Let me know your thoughts thank you!

    • @Endless_Skyway_Adventures

      Jon Binnie length is a factor, longer requires heavier gauge. Short term peaks are usually ok but if they are too frequent they can still heat the wire. Cable quality matters, I would opt for cable that has ratings for both amps and temperature. In your case you might want to go up a gauge. Remember to fuse under the wire gauge.
