  • In 2021 I returned to Australia after 2 years living in Sweden. A few months later, enjoying kanelbullar and a cup of fresh filter coffee, I wrote this polska. In my head it's been called 'Nostalgia Polska', but more than just nostalgia it represents the strange feeling of homesickness for somewhere away from home, so the 8th fortnightly tune for 2024 has been dubbed 'Awaysick'. Apologies for the grainy video - I recorded this during an afternoon thunderstorm, so the lighting was terrible.

Thanks! It took a lot of experimenting but I think i have eventually found a nice simple recording set-up that does the instrument justice.

    Beautiful, thanks for sharing!
Did you start on the regular mandolin before moving on to this instrument?

Thanks! I actually started on guitar, then moved to bouzouki as a comp instrument and didn't start playing melody on it until later. It's definitely reasonable to transition from mandolin/banjo/fiddle though and I know a lot of people who've done that too.

Hi. It’s a really lovely sound. What’s the model bouzouki you’re playing?
