    Easily one of the most thrilling swim races I have ever seen. So often swimming looks like an 8 athlete time trial. But this one looked like a real race. The unstoppable champion chased down in the home stretch by the gutsy speedy underdog who would not give in and just accept the silver medal. Great race.

      Watch Lezak's finish in the 4x100 free relay back in 2008. Same type of vibe as this one. They were both losing by a significant margin and made a miraculous comeback.

    • @tekkenfan01
      @tekkenfan01 7 лет назад +30

      guitta Dabe some said she only smiled because the camera was on her and she saw herself on the big screen, she's greatly disappointed, dirados reaction was more beautiful, she couldn't stop smiling and tearing up as well, during the medal as well

    • @ucnlermb
      @ucnlermb 7 лет назад +73

      Agreed. Of course she was disappointed, the whole reason these athletes go to Olympics is to win a medal for their countries, if its Gold, the better. She showed good sportsmanship, unlike certain swimmers who went out of their way to make others (more)miserable than they already felt. I felt so proud of Maya since she was my favorite swimmer for Team USA and beating Katinka is not impossible, but its incredibly hard to do so. She went out with a Bang! and I'm happy for her. Katinka has been a machine in the world cup so far, she's the Iron Lady for a reason!

      It's crazy how many times finishes and timing your stroke decides medals. Look at Phelps like 4 races that have been decided by .09 or less. The one with Crocker, Le clos, Cavic etc he wins or loses on finishes.

    Hosszu started spinning the last 25. She took 7 strokes from the flags to Dirado's 5. It reminds me of how Alain Bernard tightened the last lap of the historic 4x100 free relay. Missy should have easily won this by well over a second; same with Seebohm. I hope they get their mojo back soon.

    One wild Friday night: First Dirado. Then the Phelps/Le Clos/Cseh three-way tie for silver in the 100 (Plus Singapore's first gold ever with J. Schooling). Then 35 year old Anthony Ervin wins the 50. Then Katie Ledecky wins the 800 by like 200 metres😊. Crazy

Dirado will not, but this Championship Swim by her was just great, and her reaction was pure Gold. The tears from her made me smile, and I also was tearing up. This race was and all of the other swim finals swam in Rio was almost a year ago. Where did the time go?

    Three, almost identical performances.
    Maya DiRado time results:
