I miss my 94 5 speed... paid 800 for it in 06 and put miles on it. Got hit on drivers side quarter panel they totalled it...got paid 2800 bought it back for 500...swapped motor and transmission out into another... got hit in the rear end and paid another 2800... bought it back for 500 again then sold it for 800... best damn car ever I have owned!
Great vid! My Grandfather bought a Prism in 93. He was a loyal Toyota man since the 70s and had a Celica and Camry before. He went the Prism route because it was a little cheaper than the Corolla...even though it was packaged with a little less standard features. In 99 he bought a Corolla.
Thanks for sharing your story. Yep, the Geo being a bit less expensive than the Corolla was a strong selling point. They were on par with the Corolla, too bad the resale value wasn’t like the Corolla’s.
My first car is the 1995 geo prizm base and I love it. Got it in 2018 as a graduation gift when I was in highschool. Still have it and still going strong.
You did your homework again. You hit all the spots. Right when I was thinking he did not cover this or that and there it was on the screen. You did a good job in how you expressed things as well about the Toyota connection as well. Some of the GEO's were sold as under a Pontiac sub brand in Canada. In Canada Pontiac in Canada help the image and position that Chevrolet holds in the United States. Chevrolet held the position Pontiac held in the United States in Canada. The roles were reversed there. Thank you once again.
Yeah I attempt to be as thorough as possible, but only for relevant information. The 1985 Nova didn’t necessarily need to be mentioned, but I just threw it in there since it was also built at NUMMI.
Toured the NUMMI plant in Fremont (Now Tesla) where these were built alongside the nearly identical Toyota Corrola. Great quality control was the emphasis on the assembly line. Clean facility and Tacoma trucks assembled there as well.
The '89-'91 Prizm sedan was built at NUMMI, just like the Chevy Nova before it. The hatchback Prizm was a version of the Corolla Sprinter, built elsewhere.
I always had a small soft spot for Geo. At the time I was in middle school or so and had no idea these were Corollas until years later! But I remember them being solid cars if a little boring especially compared to that in house competition you mentioned. However I would rather had a Prizm over the Escort any day 😂
Yeah definitely. The Escort was reliable but the Prizm was waaay more reliable. Solid cars inside and out. I think they were probably the most reliable out of all the Geo models TBH. Sad how the Prizm ended. By the time it merged with Chevy, it wasn’t promoted quite as heavily, if at all. Thanks for watching again.
awesome video! my corolla is a 2013 built after NUMMI closed but it has both the heart and the gumption of a Prizm lol also whats that wild beat you're using at the outro screen?
Hey thanks for watching. The outro I had someone on Fiverr.com make it, so I have no idea which music track they used. They had a selection of tracks to choose from so I chose that one.
Still have a '94 5MT Prizm in the awful teal color with many Bondo spots. 289k miles and a decent winter car. My summer car is a 2003 Pontiac Vibe GT with the 6spd -- also made at NUMMI.
Had a '95 LSi and loved it until an accident. The bright red paint faded after 5 years but that was the only problem I ever had with it. The design still looks good to this day (and better than the Corolla of that time) and there are still many on the roads. I occasionally think about finding another LSi just for the hell of it.
I wonder if these new generation can do 40 mpg’s like these kings back in the day and still make it more fun than these bigger cars nowadays? Makes me think these kids have it good with all that power and no money😂
First video on this channel about a Geo model, the Geo brand was one that not many people never knew existed, myself included. Around the same time this Geo sub-brand was launched, Chrysler launched the Eagle brand which I guess was Geo's main competitor in that neither brand had a unique model for themselves, both brands were short-lived and both brands just sold rebadged imports lol. But this was American brands had a bad habit of selling the same car across 4-5 brands.
"Not many people knew existed" = you didn't know, so therefore not many knew. "Eagle" was a model before it was a brand, similar to Genesis of today. Similar to GM, Chrysler was selling versions of Mitsubishis for YEARS before they were sold under the "Eagle" label.
@Anthony Rivera yeah I recall back in the late 80s/early 90s many people actually shopped Geo. I’m not sure if Eagle was a direct competitor. Geo was more eco-minded. And Geo didn’t have a ‘sporty’ full-size sedan like the Vision and a Talon TSi could blow the doors off of a Storm any day of the week. But yeah both were short-lived and basically rebadges.
Chevy should of stuck with the the nova name know that the pontiac vibe and toyota matrix also known as the toyota voltz replaced the sprinter and geo prizm

Haha that’s quite a story!
Sounds like you win on all accounts. What a great story!
Became a partial owner of a 2nd gen geo prizm and It’s such an amazing vehicle it never let me down and is a good daily to drive

@Antique TAGS Thats true. Im sure the same could be said of the Toyota Matrix vs Pontiac Vibe.
@Auto Chatter agreed.
My first car is the 1995 geo prizm base and I love it. Got it in 2018 as a graduation gift when I was in highschool. Still have it and still going strong.
Nice! I wouldn’t mind having one myself. I’m glad to hear these cars are still being driven.
I really liked my 96 Prizm LSi. Good memories.

@@MotorMaster_Stunticon You were very informative and on the mark.
My friend's dad had one untill 2020 & used to drive it alot. Great csr
Yeah it is a great car. I still see them on the road. Thanks for watching.
Just got a 2000 Chevy prism with 110,000 miles. A couple dings but passed inspection and runs great!
Geo needs a comeback honestly…
That would be refreshing
90's cars can only be defined as 'BLAND' as they were nearly all indistinguishable from one another.
I'd say the 90s was pretty diverse compared to nowadays, but diversity peaked in the early to mid 2000s
Toured the NUMMI plant in Fremont
(Now Tesla) where these were built alongside the nearly identical Toyota Corrola. Great quality control was the emphasis on the assembly line. Clean facility and Tacoma trucks assembled there as well.
Yep, now Tesla. And you’re right about the quality control.
Love your videos, man. Could you do one for the Saturn SL?
Definitely plan on doing all the major 90s cars.
lol, I have a 1997 of this car, 1.8L with 5 speed, 165,000 miles and everything still works
Nice, definitely low mileage for a 1997.
Excellent job, really enjoyed your research and thoughts.
Indeed. Thanks for watching.
The '89-'91 Prizm sedan was built at NUMMI, just like the Chevy Nova before it. The hatchback Prizm was a version of the Corolla Sprinter, built elsewhere.
Yes indeed.
My next door neighbor had a black 95 prizm . I wanted that for my first car. Unfortunately, they moved and traded it for a 2011 Prius in 2013.

Yeah that teal color was popular on 90s cars in general. Glad to hear you still own it, they run forever.
I always thought this car looked more like a Camry that the Corolla of its time.
Really? I thought the opposite.

I have a white one LSi 5 speed, 165,000 miles, white, with tan inside, asking $2200, its in northern CA
@Seannyice81 I agree the design looks good today. I still see them on the road as well.
I got a 96 geo prizm. 250k+ miles on it. Gunna see if i can take it to 300k
I love you geo

You hit the nail on the head! GM was the biggest offender...carbon copies of every model at every division 🤦🏾♂️
"Not many people knew existed" = you didn't know, so therefore not many knew.

My mom had the 84 nova, later the 91 geo and I had a 1995 geo
Great. Thanks for sharing!
What i don't understand is when they discontinued the geo brand whay didn't they bring back the chevy nova
Chevy should of stuck with the the nova name know that the pontiac vibe and toyota matrix also known as the toyota voltz replaced the sprinter and geo prizm
I got one is amazing car.this will win a super charger .
Toyota and General Motors they have a partnership
Why lie to people? Asuna was ther same type thing they also did not sell GM cars Instead tell the truth
Agreed
