I wish they still stained it this way. Unfortunately, now they use more opaque pigment and it looks more like it is painted on, not analine stain that shows the grain of the leather. They also now buff the grain side more than in the past, so it is not full grain. Their leather is very nice, but not as nice as it used to be.

As far as the top grade bridle butts that i always use, they are absolutely full grain. There are a million tanneries that stain leather fine but there are very very few that get it to look like the way they do - "painted" on. With certain lighter colors you still see the grain. That "painted" look makes it more refined and once it starts to fade and patina that "painted" look dries up anyway and it ages to a beautiful full grain veg tan piece of leather. ---- if they do buff the grain side it would be to take off a very thin layer to make it more uniform. It would still very much be full grain. taking off the thin top layer is like us shedding unwanted skin doesn't mean it is degraded.
