Good reaction. I've said this on some other reactions, but I feel this album, concept aside, is highlighting Su-metal's vocals more than anything and possibly more than has been the case in the previous albums - they each had maybe three or four songs that really did that, this one so far every song has done it. Of the four songs released so far 'Monochrome' is my own favourite. 'Metal Kingdom' and 'Divine Attack' (Su-metal has writing credits for the lyrics on that one) work well together for the concert openers. This one is still growing on me, but I know to wait for the live version, you can never really tell with any BABYMETAL songs you're not so sure about until hearing them live. Su-metal is 25 now, Moametal is 23 ... they started in 2010 when Su was 12 and Moa and the other original member Yui were both 11. RAH22 has already summarised their humble beginnings - their subsequent success came as a huge surprise to probably everybody (especially their agency Amuse) except perhaps their producer Kobametal who was probably the only person who could have spotted Su-metal's potential for fronting a metal band ... or a metal band with a difference anyway.
It's like Perfume. The choreography was done by Mikiko, so it is only natural that it should be similar, but this is the first time that the choreography is so similar to Perfume. There have been a number of songs that resemble Perfume in concept, but I was surprised to see the similarity in tone of the songs.
A heavier version was performed live. This music video version seems to have a stronger J-Pop element. This MV was filmed on January 28 and 29, the same days as Metal Kingdom I was seated on KAMI's band side on the 28th, so I was able to see the massive and intense performance right in front of me. Although they don't appear in the music video, the members of KAMI band are conventional members, and they were playing happily 😁 And this song is being produced by the same team as SHINE!
I have listened to enough Babymetal that I do not expect. I go into every track open to what they give me. Some I like more, some less, but I'm never "disappointed" because I never think that they'll give me something specific.
First understand that BabyMetal is respected by the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Judas Priest, Guns and Roses, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and more. LIVE performances is where it’s at with BabyMetal. They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each song is different. They are fearless exploring many genres. They began in 2010 as a passion project by producer Kei Kobayashi who was a metal fan but believed the metal scene was growing stale with aging bands and he had a dream of injecting new life into the scene. After hearing Suzuka Nakamoto (lead vocals) sing at age 10 was impressed by her strong vocals and stage presence believing she could front a metal band and not be overcome by the instruments. It just so happened that he was working for the largest talent agency in Japan - Amuse and Suzuka was part of Sakura Gakuin - an Amuse production (more on that at a later date) and with her friends and fellow classmates at SG Moa Kikuchi - still a part of BabyMetal and Yui Mizuno (who left in 2018 due to health reasons) Kobayashi recruited them to be backup singers and choreography and BabyMetal was born. BabyMetal had no financing in the beginning as this was simply a passion project of Kobayashi so they played at strip malls and small venues blending heavy metal with J-pop (it was a new genre they invented called “Kuwaii Metal”. The name BabyMetal infers to the birth of that new metal genre not the age of the girls. Because they had no money they played to pre-recorded tracks with actors dressed in skeleton suits pretending to play instruments until 2012 when they had such a following (they paid their dues - they were not corporate) that Amuse finally realized their potential and hired the best session musicians in Japan who became their touring band for LIVE shows. Called the Kami Band they are still performing with them to this day with some changes). Suzuka shares writing credit on one of their new songs - Divine Attack. Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno wrote the lyrics for an earlier song called 4 No Uta. Good luck.
Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐 Is always nice to see old BM fans and reactors coming back to hear more of them, this time returning with a more mature sound and a new BM side we've never seen before. Another lovely ballad with beautiful SuMetal vocals. Love the J-pop sound from 2000 and years after. Here's some info about this song: "One of the discovered 10 parallel worlds is "LIGHT AND DARKNESS" and this 4th pre-release digital single “Light and Darkness” centers around this theme. Because light exists, darkness also exists. And because darkness is present, there is also a world that shines. During the night when light and darkness intersect, what we seek after poisoned with darkness awaits a world filled with strong love. As the door opens, is it hope or despair that awaits us? The song expresses the duality in everything and the way things are perceived and interpreted differ depending on each person’s point of view." This was a world premiere at Makuhari Messe 2023 setlist, along with "THE LEGEND", Momoko Okazaki is the third backup dancer performing here and possibly the new official member. MoaMetal once again adding the backing vocals and all of them dancing once again with the full trio formation. Here's the lyrics translated with some help. Thanks for sharing this and being one of the first reacting to this new single. See you next time 🦊🤘❤️ Lyrics : MK-METAL / TAKEMETAL Music : TAKEMETAL Arrangement : tatsuoMETAL 【Lyrics】 Even the reality buried in the snow of sadness Even these hands that have been dyed red by mistakes Take me to oblivion To an ideal world filled with love Open that door Come on Ah, Ah Being poisoned, falling into a dream A night where light and darkness seek and play together Drowning in a sea of rhythm Even my memories are being destroyed This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go Let me out. Let me out. let's jump out hit by the rain of joy Let me go. Let me go. right now Let's dance the night away Take me to oblivion Take off the mask filled with lies Right now Being poisoned, falling into a dream A night where light and darkness seek and play together Drowning in a sea of rhythm Even my memories are being destroyed This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go In the night when sorrow overflows Keep this love warm Open the door now Come on Ah, Ah Even my dreams are poisoned A night where hope and despair seek and play together Ring out forever Even my heart is filled This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go
I'm with you! I'm a new fan. And I understand there's a lot of money and production behind the creation of the music and live shows but I'm fine with it too! All of that doesn't take away anything from these ladies in my opinion! They are true superstars with incredible talent and stage presence and dancing skills! I love all of it. All the new singles recently from the new album I absolutely love!
Officially as of now, is still just Su-metal and Moametal, but at the recent shows where this concert video was filmed in January, it was revealed that that a new permanent member will be revealed at the upcoming shows at Yokohama on April 1st and 2nd.
Interesting reaction. This era is called "The Other One" I believe it is is a transitional era and the songs are designed for Su to stretch her vocals and Moa provide her soft sweet voice. And drawing in a wider audience. On Fox Day a new era will begin (there are numerous hints this will happen). As most expect a third permanent member will be named. I suspect Koba has already developed new music for the next era, perhaps preparing for a new album after "The Other One." During the concert series with Sabaton, I expect some of the new material will be debuted. As most agree, hoping the third new member will be Momoko. IMO she has earned her rights to that spot. Yui will never be replaced, but Momoko will be part of the new era as a permanent member. She is quirky and her personality is very similar to Moa's. I wonder what Momoko's metal name will be and her princess title.
BABYMETAL has always been commercial and metal, and that has always been their appeal, J-pop production and Metal Power. As a child of the 80's this was not new to me growing up with Hair Metal Bands like Bon Jovi and Whitesnake or theatrical show productions like KISS and Alice Cooper, what is new is how BABYMETAL has combined Metal and different genres and has kept it fresh over 4 studio albums and 10 years!
You say you want something big and heavy from this album, you haven't heard Divine Attack? BabyMetal has always showed their versatility and that is what they are doing with this album. So far they have gone from super heavy to power ballad to anthemic to pop, this , I feel should be praised not thought of a sign as they're are getting soft or selling out. They have yet to achieve worldwide domination and have yet to receive any considerable airplay (outside of Japan and definitely not in the U.S.) so if a pop based song is what it takes to achieve that then that's the way it should be.
Yep they are fckn great !! If you're looking for another Japanese female group that is in a league of their own write their own music and play their instruments like Rock Goddess you can't go wrong with BAND MAID, head to their You Tube channel and there's a sh*tload of musical pleasure awaiting you, try Dice, Manners, Rinne, Choose Me or their fantastic live vids , cheers from Australia, looking forward to your reactions 👍🍻
Yeah first 3 songs of the album sounded a lot like generic metal for me, so this gave me a huge relief since at least was a bit different! I am still hoping for something spectacular, but after all this is a concept album.
@@whaleseathumans But tbh only really early stuff was super chaotic! More recent was more linear, even if with some extravagant stuff going on from time to time :D
If you want something spectacular from the new babymetal you have to react to Arkadia That song is beautifully structured, beyond good..!! Even though I dont really like new babymetal but i have to admit that arkadia (and BxMxC) is good (and awesome) track(s). Yes the best babymetal was Yui's era, cute appearances and cute voices AF on top of brutal instruments, very chaotic but satisfying to the eyes and ears.
I can definitely say this was not what I was expecting. I've never heard them release anything that sounded more like an anime intro. And I'm not being critical when I say that, I enjoy that kind of music. This whole album so far seems very reserved, though. On the one hand, I like it. I like that every song isn't trying to be a spectacle, and it might have something to do with this being a concept album. Regardless, most of the releases (but especially Metal Kingdom) feel more artistic, like they don't have anything to prove anymore and it's about a more overarching vision. I think that the songs being more radio friendly is a side effect of that rather than the goal. On the other hand, there have been a couple of squandered opportunities - in Divine Attack in particular and to a lesser extent in Metal Kingdom. I think Metal Kingdom does what it's designed to do, and it's my favorite so far, but Divine Attack could have come back in so much heavier after the break and done something to change the song up more. I don't know. Perhaps it's a bridging song on the concept album and also does only and just what it's designed to do in the context of the whole, but we won't know until March. 🤘🦊🤘
feels like they said lets do a song for an anime opening. its very Jpop, far more than earlier stuff they've done, Its good, but its not a total banger like Shingeki
I feel SU-METAL is the prime mover for this concept album
Good reaction. 【Lyrics】
Even the reality buried in the snow of sadness
Even these hands that have been dyed red by mistakes
Take me to oblivion
To an ideal world filled with love
Open that door
Come on Ah, Ah
Being poisoned, falling into a dream
A night where light and darkness seek and play together
Drowning in a sea of rhythm
Even my memories are being destroyed
This love is strong and strong
I'm sure it won't stop
This love is strong and strong
Never let go
Let me out. Let me out.
let's jump out
hit by the rain of joy
Let me go. Let me go.
right now
Let's dance the night away
Take me to oblivion
Take off the mask filled with lies
Right now
Being poisoned, falling into a dream
A night where light and darkness seek and play together
Drowning in a sea of rhythm
Even my memories are being destroyed
This love is strong and strong
I'm sure it won't stop
This love is strong and strong
Never let go
In the night when sorrow overflows
Keep this love warm
Open the door now
Come on Ah, Ah
Even my dreams are poisoned
A night where hope and despair seek and play together
Ring out forever
Even my heart is filled
This love is strong and strong
I'm sure it won't stop
This love is strong and strong
Never let go
