    Had depression and GAD for most of my life and I finally started antidepressants this year. I've been on desvenlafaxine 50mg for a little over a month now and I instantly felt better. Only side effects I got was extreme sleepiness the first 1-2 weeks and a constant need to yawn which has lessened by now. I love this medication and I'm so glad I finally started. Don't be afraid to start antidepressants. This med changed me for the better.

      Same with me, but for pristiq. I started it in Australia after having nothing work well enough for me, moved back to NZ when covid came around to find out that my country doesn't have pristiq and I was switched to effexor, everything spiralled pretty quickly from there... I was diagnosed with adhd a bit after this and was finally getting my life on track, I studied to be a pharmacy technician and recently I searched for desvenlafaxine from our suppliers, nothing popped up but I still kept looking from time to time until I thought to try searching via brand name, and boom there it was! ff to talking with my doctor and showing him he was happy to write a script and I finally have it in my hands.
      I'm incredibly privileged to be in the job I have, it has made finding this drug possible through means I never would've expected.
      I am a little worried i could be getting ahead of myself as it was quite literally the only box in the country, I have contacted our suppliers to confirm if I can keep getting this supply for the forseeable future

    Whether it is poison or not, effexor helped my bipolar depression a great deal while other meds proved to be inefficient. Depression is way worse than the side effects you mention. I don’t like the drug but it is giving me relief from debilitating, disabling symptoms. Honestly I couldn’t care less about the side effects as there is currently no effective substitute for me that actually pulls me out of the most severe form of depression. And no it does not make me manic as I take lithium too.
    It’s by no means perfect, but it works. U gotta give it two months to work though and withdrawals are difficult but I usually withdraw in 2 months when I’m starting to feel a bit hypomanic.

    This drug was out of this world as far as side effects go when I was on it. I understand some people respond to this drug well and that’s great, we are all different and what works for some doesn’t work for another. I was on max dose and it was like i had defibrillator paddles on my legs the shocks were so bad, they would fly up into the air lol. Withdrawal symptoms if reducing and coming off was brutal a lot of GI upset, dizziness and I felt like I had been given drugs I just wasn’t with it. Never again. But happy for those who do find it works for them. But yes be careful if you ever want to stop taking, never stop abruptly, and another thing I had to ensure when I was taking it, was to have spare medication on me at all times. If you do mistakenly skip a dose due to an unexpected delay or something comes up and you can go home to take your meds at your regular time, I would feel terrible within only 4-5 hours of missing it. So I would always carry a dose in my handbag and a spare dose in my car just in case and it really did save me from having problems if I couldn’t get home to take them.

    It's not a great leap forward in terms of antidepressants, more of an evergreening drug - isolate the more active isomer and market it as if it's a totally new med. Having been on citalopram and escitalopram for the best part of 20 years, it's a swizz. The R-enantiomer has no antidepressant effect and doesn't interfere with the action of the S-enantiomer. You could take 10mg Escitalopram one day and 20mg Citalopram ad infinitum and not notice a jot of difference. Clomipramine, on the other hand, hits SERT and NET hard, via its metabolite desmethyl-clomipramine. That's a more balanced SNRI drug than Venlafaxine, Desvenlafaxine and Duloxetine. Milnacipran and Levo-milnacipran are better balanced at SERT and NET too.

    I have only been on Pristiq I started going through a alcohol rehab 10 days in I started getting headaches while in rehab no alcohol involved. I was in there from March 6th to April 6th so a 30 days. I would workout I would get a headache. I used to workout all the time and not have this issue. And the headaches got so bad my eye sight would go. I would be blind for at least a few minutes 5 at the max. This has happened at 5 times since I got home. Which was April 6th. I recently got off of it and have a had the blinding headache happen again on Wednesday July 5th. Irritating that doctors are saying it's migraines. I don't have these

    Thank you for only prescribing this only sparingly. Venlafaxine is ruining my life and it maybe wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t prescribed this so early in my medication journey to find an antidepressant that worked. They were right, it worked… now my body is extremely dependent on venlafaxine after being on it for 8 years and upping slowly to 300mg. My tapering process will take years from the strength of the withdrawals… I feel wronged by that doctor….

    You’re quite right to refer to them both as poison. But they do the job for very disturbed people

    • @derprophoto
      @derprophoto 3 месяца назад

      That’s not very kind and also an extreme stigma of this medication. Antipsychotics are a different medication class that help people with delusions/hallucinations/psychosis, if that is what you are referring to. This is simply a strong antidepressant with many usecases, post trauma likely being the top end of use case. I’m not sure that is a “very disturbed” individual. Also, get lost slandering mental health, stop stigmatizing without knowing what you are talking about and labeling people who take certain medications.

    Hello I’m 28 years old male looking for help with treatment resistant depression. Was on Zoloft for 12 years. Got to the highest dose. Eventually stopped working for me so I switched to Prozac and am now at the full dose. I don’t feel like it’s helping with the depression either. I was also prescribed Wellbutrin and it has helped a lot with motivation and energy levels. I also was recently prescribed seroquel to help as and adjunct with my other meds but haven’t noticed a difference. Was on abilify before seroquel for a couple weeks and it did stop my crying spells but gave me horrible akethesia so I switched to seroquel. My doctor is now recommending I switch from Prozac to Effexor and increase my Wellbutrin. What do you think about this? (Side note I’m also on trazodone for sleep and klonopin for anxiety but am tapering off klonopin for obvious reasons)
