  • THIS VIDEO IS A RECONSTRUCTION OF THE FOLLOWING SITUATION IN FLIGHT:
    19-JAN-2024. A Lufthansa Airbus A340-300 (A343), registration D-AIGN, performing flight DLH423 / LH423 from Boston Logan International Airport, MA (USA) to Frankfurt International Airport (Germany) after departure reported a bird strike and requested to stop climb at 8000 feet. Later the pilot reported high vibration on one of their engines and informed that the engine was running at idle power. The flight crew dumped fuel over the ocean south-east of Boston to reduce weight and returned to the airport of departure. This airplane (D-AIGN) remained on the ground for about 6 days and departed from Boston on 25-JAN-2024.

    THE VALUE OF THIS VIDEO:
    THE MAIN VALUE IS EDUCATION. This reconstruction will be useful for actual or future air traffic controllers and pilots, people who plan to connect life with aviation, who like aviation. With help of this video reconstruction you’ll learn how to use radiotelephony rules, Aviation English language and general English language (for people whose native language is not English) in situation in flight, which was shown. THE MAIN REASON I DO THIS IS TO HELP PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND EVERY EMERGENCY SITUATION, EVERY WORD AND EVERY MOVE OF AIRCRAFT.
    SOURCES OF MATERIAL, LICENSES AND PERMISSIONS:
    Source of communications - www.liveatc.net/ (I have a permission (Letter) for commercial use of radio communications from LiveATC.net).
    Map, aerial pictures (License (ODbL) ©OpenStreetMap -www.openstreetmap.org/copyrig...) Permission for commercial use, royalty-free use.
    Radar screen (In new versions of videos) - Made by author.
    Text version of communication - Made by Author.
    Video editing - Made by author.
    HOW I DO VIDEOS:
    1) I monitor media, airspace, looking for any non-standard, emergency and interesting situation.
    2) I find communications of ATC unit for the period of time I need.
    3) I take only phrases between air traffic controller and selected flight.
    4) I find a flight path of selected aircraft.
    5) I make an animation (early couple of videos don’t have animation) of flight path and aircraft, where the aircraft goes on his route.
    6) When I edit video I put phrases of communications to specific points in video (in tandem with animation).
    7) Together with my comments (voice and text) I edit and make a reconstruction of emergency, non-standard and interesting situation in flight.

    Love the precision of the pilot’s transmissions and calm attitude. No need of an emergency. Very German. Good job by the ATC as well. Minimal transmissions. Quickly understood the communications and clarified when in doubt. No duplication, nothing unnecessary. 👍🏼👏🏼

    The Advantage of an A 340 in such a situation is that it has four Engines!🙂 The poor Bird.😌 Thank you very much for picking this incident up!👍

    I was wondering why that bird was kept here all week.
    Definitely a nice boost to the daily scenery!
    But when i drove by where they parked it, I noticed their techs were working on something in the nose. Never saw them touch the engines. Then again, maybe i missed it when they did.
    Maybe they worked an MEL of some sort too, or something.
    Was nice to see them do an engine ops check out on the taxiways. Even though they were way out 😂

      Probably did some other maintenance. Good possibility they had to fly in parts for the engine, since it's A340-200/300 specific

    Not the birds' fault. They were expecting the plane to fly far above them, but just didn't realize quickly enough that it was an A340-300 and was climbing slower than they were. :P

    Can an A340-300 even climb on 3 engines?

    • @tbas8741
      @tbas8741 4 месяца назад +4

      Barely, its soo underpowered if it looses 2 engines better hope its less than 50% loaded as it will crash otherwise.
      I think from the A340 video i watched years ago climb rate with only 3 engines is like 1000ft/min max (which is low for a jumbo)

  • @malahammer

    • @tbas8741
      @tbas8741 4 месяца назад +5

      A340 is way too under powered for that, With just the loss of one engine it struggles to climb properly and is not like a 747 or A380 if it looses 2 engines you better hope its almost empty because it CANNOT fly on only 2 engines when more than 50% loaded..
      A340 only just barely has enough power to get airborn when fully loaded (even then they have to turn off Bleed air and AC just to take off when full)

    I understand that the airplane position and timing accuracy may be not accurate. But you can at least keep the track directions correct - if there's 180 or 360 deg, let it be vertical on the screen😊. Similar 90 or 270 deg should be horizontal.
    This note apply not only to this video, and even not only to this channel, but it's very annoying.
    Regardless of this, it's a great, well done job👍🙂

      I think the slight offset has something to do with the difference between true north and magnetic north. Just a guess though.

    • @tbas8741
      @tbas8741 4 месяца назад +1

      Most USA maps like this show the country on correct angle and map is not facing true north like other countries.
      So the 360 heading being on a slight angle to almost 11oclock position makes sense as north is 11 oclock on that map

      I mean, Lufthansa's US maintenance hubs are in Florida and Oklahoma XD Also, A340 not the most common aircraft type with it's CFM56-5C engines (which are only on the A340-200 and -300) -> simply switching engines likely not an option and who knows where they got fan blades for it.

      This was not even a PAN PAN ^^. Lufthansa pilots very strictly follow ICAO and company SOPs.
      Side note: ICAO standard for a MAYDAY is current danger to the airframe / safety of flight / lives on board that requires immediate support and priority.

      If I were you, I would delete such a misinformed comment. I wouldn't want to be caught posting such drivel online. And here is a recommendation: If you don't know what you are talking about, then shut up and don't embarrass yourself. Your further steps need to be that you google what those ICAO standards actually are and that you do some emotional development instead of being a misinformed oxygen thief.
