- URGENT, ABANDONED DOG SEEKS RESCUE OR ADOPTION:
This is Andra, ID#A1444473. She was brought to the South LA Animal Shelter on Christmas Eve, 2013. She was brought to the shelter by police after having been found abandoned in a house. She is only 1 year old but her face carries in it so much stress and pain of a dog far beyond her years. She is 61lbs.
Presently she has a minor limp in her left hind leg and is receiving pain medication. She does walk on it but when she runs she favors it.
Andra is short for Andranetta which in Greek means brave, that's because right now Andra needs courage. She is so scared in the shelter. I've worked with her a few days now and so far this is what I have learned and seen: She is TERRIFIED in the shelter environment, keeping to the back of her cage and trembling constantly.
She shows no aggression in her fear at all, she craves touch and loved to get back rubs and especially likes her neck and the sides of her face rubbed. She is very responsive to affection and will bond quickly once adopted. She takes treats gentler than any dog I have ever met.
She is non-reactive to the other dogs when we walk past the kennels, she is good to get on a leash but can pull and be excited a little bit on a leash, she appears to be house broken as her kennel is not soiled and when I walked her she immediately relieved herself.
Andra REALLY deserves a chance at a new happy life. I am fearful because she hides in the back of her cage that she will have a lot of difficulty being adopted. She needs our help to be adopted or rescued. Please do everything you can to network this girl.
Many thanks, Iris, shelter volunteer

Ending up in a shelter has got to so traumatizing to a pet. You can see and feel their fear... it is heartbreaking. That's why shelters need loving volunteers to spend time with the dogs. The dogs need that love & attention to ease their fear and give them hope. They also need our prayers that they will be one of the lucky ones that gets a loving 4ever home.
Adorable
