I'm glad that there will be an emphasis on story. I always wanted to learn more about the characters :). I thought of this idea a while ago but a mini series in the style of 'Shenmue the Animation' detailing each of the characters backstories would be nice. I'm not sure how long each episode would be but I think 25- 40 minutes per episode would be nice. Moreover, I'm aware that Virtua Fighter adaptations exists such as a two series anime which was recently re-released on Blu Ray and an OVA titled "Virtua Fighter Costomize Clip" basically like the CG Portrait Series but in anime form. I bring this up due to Sega adapting many of their IPs to different mediums i.e., Sonic, Space Channel 5, Comix Zone, Streets of Rage, etc., and I do feel that Virtua Fighter could be something that Sega would like to adapt in the future (but lets hope it doesn't turn out like the other fighting game adaptations)

I still kinda feel like releasing a new Virtua Fighter around this time is a bit of a tough call since Tekken 8 is still kinda hot right now, and a lot of people may only try one or the other - hoping that there’s still quite a bit of time until release, VF’s been in the background for so long and considering their competition has stepped their game up tenfold since the VF5 days, I think it’s gonna be hard for VF to stand out in the long run. If the new game ends up kicking so much ass to the point the word-of-mouth boosts them extensively, that would be wonderful to see. Sega has a niche charm with their games I don’t think other publishers share and I wanna see more of it nowadays.
Ever since Shenmue was sort of revived I've been hoping for a new VF, I need, NEED to see my boy Ryo in a fighting game and VF is the most fitting and likely candidate

VF5 still looks really good despite being old. But VF has always been at the graphical forefront for fighters. (Remember VF3 and Tekken 2 released a year apart) I always hoped Virtua Fighter and Tekken would do a crossover. Imagine Akira vs Jin, Jacky vs Law, or Lion vs Lili. A jukebox function would be nice. Kage's VF4 theme is still my favorite theme in the series.
Can't wait for it. We're witnessing the renaissance of the fighting games. Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 killed it so far. Also with Mortal Kombat I had my fun, even though it has its issues. Virtua Fighter returning is one hell of a huge deal. Especially for the 3D fighters. I think it will offer a interesting alternative to Tekken 8.
While I never played the series, I remember the hype for Virtua Fighter 3 and the crazy arcade cabinet that came with it. In hindsight, it was really the last big arcade release for fighting games that drew a massive crowd the day it came out in our area. Other games had more impact and sustainability (Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, MvC/CvS 1 and 2, etc), but that moment was pinnacle VF. To be honest, I think only SF2 Champion Edition, Mortal Kombat II and 3 (vanilla) were the only games to reach those levels in arcades. I wouldn't even include WW because it was a game that became big versus people actually anticipating for it.

There's absolutely no reason why any character from VF Final Showdown should be nixed for a hypothetical sequel, if it's really a reboot, they could rework in all of the previous characters as if they were there from the very beginning story-wise, gameplay-wise there's not a single character who isn't at least somewhat popular in the competitive scene of VF and there are only 19 characters as is (not counting Dural of course), unlike Tekken, which has around 70 playable characters throughout it, some of which are really unpopular in the player base.

Shun Di is a must in the roster... it's already so sad that Tekken shit on Drunken Fist style and Lei Wulong, someone who's been a staple for years, was DLC for S2 in Tekken 7 alongside Julia Chang, and they both missed base roster AGAIN in Tekken 8. To me the staple trio has always been: Law, Paul & Lei... it's depressing how they do my Jackie Chan lookalike like that, while Bruce Lee lookalike get to keep showing up in their games... and I'm sure the Lee state are way more overprotective over Bruce Lee imagery than Jackie Chan is over his own. But Shun Di will definitely help differentiate further the two titles... and you gotta have Kage too, the Ryu Hayabusa of Sega with his very unique style.
Im currently playing the new yakuza game. You can find cd's scattered around the map that feature music from many different sega titles. Since you can play virtua fighter in the yakuza games already, I'd be very surprised if this reboot didnt feature any yakuza characters even as guest as this alone would sell. I would love to see virtua fighter rebranded with a yakuza style plot where the yakuza characters are integral to the lore and story.
9:10 i literraly main makoto on 3rd strike because i found her character very compelling after playing her arcade mode. I went from liking the game playing as ryu, to considering 3s the best fighting game ever playing as makoto, just because i saw her story and went "shit, this chick is so cool, hardworking and charming, yeah i'm playing her from now on". Regardless of the fighting game, i always pick the character based on personality and story rather than actual gameplay (might be why i have some ammount of low tiers as main lol), and loving them is what keeps me coming back.
I first played VF in the arcade. I never really dived too deep into it because I was focused on other fighters like MK and SF, but I did like it. VF4 really put the series on the map for me. It had a really good training mode that let you know if you needed to focus on certain areas like blocking low or sidestepping more often. Detailed stuff from what I remember. The quest mode was awesome. The game felt like a gift that kept on giving. Kiryu hasn't been in Tekken or any other fighter because the character is one who would never hit a woman, and the creator of the franchise really holds to- LMAO bro as I'm typing this out you just said "I don't want to hear any bullshit about Kiryu doesn't hit women"😂😂😂 Im done i lost my train of thought man lol
So I'll say this. (It might be long XD) 1. first off Much love playing Goh. He's my main and he's the character that got me into the series I even went back and read his wiki to know more about him and see his animations change as the game went on. If they expand his story or change it up and it's still good...I'm here for it. 2. VF has always been a pillar for innovation. Maximilian in his videos on VF he showed off it's extensive tutorial and it explains its mechanics and games deeply. No game until Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 really ever got that far especially for new players to welcome them into the series. Heck In vanilla VF5 on the PS3 it had live commentary on replays Kinda like what SF6 had. 2 voices breaking down a match. I saw this and holy shit. It blew my mind that SF6 basically took this idea and developed it a bit further. Then you got Tekken 8's Arcade Quest. VF had something similar as well in 5 too. You would travel to places and rank up from there for rewards and cosmetics. I genuinely can't wait to see what this reboot has to offer. I own the current remaster on my PS4 and sadly I don't have anyone to play it with but it's combat and nature truly has a place and I wish it well. VF has so much sauce I can talk for hours man.
First of all, one of the main appeals of Virtua Fighter is how grounded it is. How "realistic" it is (as realistic as a game with a silver woman cyborg can be) compared to other fighting games. Virtua Fighter doesn't need fancy stuff or flashy stuff, it doesn't need to become anime. Leave the fancy, crazy stuff for Tekken.
Great video man you always bring up fantastic points ! I 100% agreee that if they add yakuza and other sega characters I am absolutely sold!! I’m huge judgment fan I’m sold if Yagami or kaito added
I agree with you, the characters in VF aren't necessarily ICONIC like other games characters. They need to keep a few of the fan favorites and come up with new designs that will make a big impression on new players. I even think that the name "Virtua Fighter" is a little generic sounding. I wish they could rebrand it somehow
If the Shenmue and Yakuza characters are actually tied into he world and story then cool. The sounds of VF are the most iconic thing about it though imo, like old school Kung fu movies. I hope they keep the sounds personally I adore them. PS VF 4 had ghost training and kumite mode while evolution added quest mode.
This might be a stretch but if this is truez its highly possible for a tekken and virtua fighter crossover. Both game devs have been in good touch with each other and i think it would benefit either franchise if they introduce a character from the other game.
People are still playing VF5US on the PS4, I only started playing 3 months ago and I've gotten nearly 2000 ranked matches and over 400 lobby matches but your luck will depend on where you live. If they released a PC version of Ultimate Showdown with crossplay to help promote a new VF that would breath much life in the online scene, Sega did say it would be feasible and it would be a chance to work out the netcode for the reboot.
virtua fighter oh man even just saying it fills me with nostalgia, i can almost smell the doritos, sweat and SALT!! so many fun times as a kid my older brother used to make me cry with akira the rage was real
Bring back last Bronx, or the characters, fighting vipers, spike out, even mech from virtual ON. Any character from sonic racing transformed.. the library is vast
at 5:27 you mention hit impacts and I agree. I think what works really well with SF and Tekken is not only the animation, but the VFX (the hit sparks and graphic designs on the screen) as well as screen shake and the sound impact. All this stuff really makes the hits look heavy in SF and Tekken
Never really played VF besides having one of the PC ones that we played on windows 95 lmao. I would defo be watching to see what happens with the game and maybe I'll pick it up. I'd wanna play Sarah I think so I hope she comes back.
Two things I not only agree with you but I've been saying for ages is they need to redo the motion capture and rework the impact of the hits, specially big moves that hit hard. Martial arts changed a lot in the almost 20 year run VF5 had, so it would be amazing to see this reflected in the new game. Hopes up guys, amazing news!
VF always had a soft spot in my heart its not my most played fighting game but its miles better than tekken VF4 evolution was the reason i bought a PS2 and other titles have all taken elements from VF VF laid alot of foundation for all fighting games and even in the 90's i was aware this game was taken seriously competitively and for good reason its a proper fighting game, these modern fighting games are just party games VF might be the way. if VF is indeed coming back lets hope it sticks the landing.
Virtua Fighter returning is gonna be insane, but it's definitely gonna need a huge upgrade with better sound design, definitely some upgraded character designs, and definitely better voice acting
I used to play a lot of Virtua Fighter 5 on my Dad's playstation back in the day, I'd love to see it come back. And yeah if they add Yakuza characters especially Majima I will pick it up and main him, Majima is my boy. Also I know you probably won't see this comment but Mike did you ever play Bloody Roar back in the day and if so what are your thoughts on it, should it come back also?
mike you ever heard of or played with Chanchai? Guy is a legend in VF, well i believe so lol he plays with everyone, all top players and not, and hes always running tournaments and just teaching people, always streaming on YT. Look into him if you still have some part that would want to play VF again :)

I don’t know virtua fighter well but I did play 5 on the Xbox 360, I found it tremendously boring and was disappointed to have bought it. I will watch from a distance.
I dont ever see Virtua fighter being a rival to Tekken because its not on the same level quality wise. The only 3D fighters that I would ever play and try to learn alongside Tekken is Soul Caliber and Dead or Alive. Edit: For instance Virtua fighter had some of their characters added to DOA5 as DLC and they were more fun and better implemented in DOA than their own game
They really have to do a better job with the characters looks abd the animations. The last vf game was really sad it looked like it was made by like 12 chinese guys in one of those ripoff game console factory’s version of tekken.
The fact that this guy claims to be a big fan and used to play VF but struggles to remember the cast name. Is a big problem with the series. The entire roster just scream uninspiring and bland. They need to reinvent some of the cast to make them more memorable. Idk the main mascot of VF but he just looks so generic to be honest. His only saving grace (which really isn’t) is that he looks like a knockoff Ryu from SF and that’s the only memorable characteristic about him.
I hope Virtua Fighter and Crazy Taxi become successful enough that Namco and Harada will regret it. It's annoying to see Harada ask SEGA where VF6 is, and then say he can't make Ridge Racer. Where is VF6? So where is Ridge Racer, Time Crisis, Soulcalibur, .hack? .hack fans are disappointed that Namco continues to release SAO games. Less than half a year after Last Recollection was released, Fractured Daydream was announced. Cruis'n, Hot Wheels racing game, LEGO racing game, F-Zero, and even Top Gear (Top Racer in Japan), Crazy Taxi returned, but Ridge Racer did not. If OutRun and Shutokou Battle are back but Ridge Racer still isn't, I won't be buying Namco games. There was OutRun 2 at British Racing Greats 2023, and Lizardcube tweeted about OutRun, Rumors are spreading in Japan that Genki is making a new Shutokou Battle. Recently, Namco is said to be holding a Ridge Racer event, but I really doubt whether they will announce a new game or remake, remaster. Ridge Racer is a dead IP and won't make much money. It's unbelievable to see SEGA trying to revive classic IPs and Namco focusing on boring anime games. I'm glad Atari Games went from Namco to Midway. If Atari Games had stayed with Namco, there would have been no Rush series and Gauntlet Legends, arcade versions of Race Drivin and S.T.U.N. Runner would never have been ported.
I hope they dont dumb down virtua fighter too much. But i know they will have to so they can attract zoomers and casuals to the game. I hope the game doesnt lose its style and image, even though the graphics and voice acting are cheesy its part of virtua fighters charm
The person leaking the game has a great track record, but part of me feels that it's too good to be true. Also I want Yakuza characters like Ichiban or Kiryu, but I heard that Sega doesn't want them hitting women which would hurt their chances getting in a fighting game. The better picks maybe Ryo from Shenmue or Bahn or Honey from Fighting Vipers. Hell through in Sonic for some Sonic the Fighters representation.
I would respect sega as a company if they don't ever fall for peer pressure and respect Toshihiro's wishes to never put Kiryu in any fighting games. If it happens, it happens. But Toshihiro loves this character enough to sacrifice so much money just to keep intact Kiryu's principles. I respect that. And I find it funny and annoying how much people are frothing at the mouth for Kiryu that I kind of hope sega never puts Kiryu in a fighting game. That's a special type of torture lol. But sega is a company first so I'm sure they'll add Kiryu in sega fighting game.
I know what they said, but he has hit women multiple times. They also said they don't want him k*lling and yet he has heat actions where he sticks a man's head in the microwave, shoots people multiple times in the chest and throws them into things they couldn't survive from 😂
Hope they use the Virtua in the title to bring some fantastical elements. Casual gamers want crazy shit. Have them use fireballs and justify it on the grounds that they're on the holodeck. Bring in Bayonetta and state explicitly that she's a videogame character. Realism has to be compromised if they want sales. If you want realism then watch/play UFC.
To people who don't know, the reason kiryu is never in a fighting game and probably will never be, is because the creator doesn't want kiryu to hit a woman even if its a fighting game
I thought my dad had a better chance of winning back my love instead of virtua fighter coming back but I guess I was wrong

I loved virtual fighter! Very excited for its comeback!
I would love to see Virtua Fighter come back and I really hope that we get a good story with the characters.
Who are your Top 5 Characters in VF?
Goh
Akira
Kage
Lau Chan
Jacky Bryant
How about you?
@@RealMikeHollow That’s cool. Here are my Top 5:
- Kage-Maru
- Aoi Umenokoji
- Pai Chan
- Vanessa Lewis
- Goh
Regardless of the fighting game, i always pick the character based on personality and story rather than actual gameplay (might be why i have some ammount of low tiers as main lol), and loving them is what keeps me coming back.
super happy if this series makes a good comeback, i stopped playing VF5US because that netcode was a pile of sloppy goop
Kiryu hasn't been in Tekken or any other fighter because the character is one who would never hit a woman, and the creator of the franchise really holds to- LMAO bro as I'm typing this out you just said "I don't want to hear any bullshit about Kiryu doesn't hit women"😂😂😂
Im done i lost my train of thought man lol
So I'll say this. (It might be long XD)
1. first off Much love playing Goh.
Definitely looking forward to the new Virtua Fighter. Now all we need is a new Bloody Roar game.
Eh, Jacky, Sarah, Pai, Akira, Kage, Lau, Lei Fei and Jeffry have classic design imo.
The rest need a major facelift though.
I hope that Virtua fighter will make a collaboration with KOF allstar cause i really want the Virtua Fighter Characters so bad
at 5:27 you mention hit impacts and I agree. I think what works really well with SF and Tekken is not only the animation, but the VFX (the hit sparks and graphic designs on the screen) as well as screen shake and the sound impact. All this stuff really makes the hits look heavy in SF and Tekken
Yeah..that outdated airplane woosh from sweeps needs to go
@@bhlakbatosai yooo ☠ I legit forgot about that sound.
I bought virtua fighter 1 for the sega saturn when it came out 🤗
Edit: And fighters Megamix lmao
I just hope Vanessa Lewis is back and gets a redesign.
🛡️👮🏾💯
True but I don't think it's going to as big as mk street fighter and Tekken but the v fighter reboot will look amazing
I was 7 minutes in, until I realized that’s your Goh gameplay. Nice!
Thank you 🙏🏾
I can’t wait til it’s a mini game in yakuza 15 😊
Oh man, if they put Blaze Fielding in the new Virtua Fighter, that's gonna be an impulse purchase from me.
Have we forgotten the controversy with Infinite Wealth? The new VF is gonna have the same ESG and DEI bs as the modern Sega games
mike you ever heard of or played with Chanchai? Guy is a legend in VF, well i believe so lol he plays with everyone, all top players and not, and hes always running tournaments and just teaching people, always streaming on YT. Look into him if you still have some part that would want to play VF again :)
I'll give him a look 🙂 I hope a new VF comes out so I can really jump in and learn the game.
"Heihachi look alike?" I'm gonna need a background check from ya...
Sega has great titles and great music, but they are the one whose games are usually 10 dollars more expensive
It should come back.. it can replace Mortal Kombat as the 3rd in the "Big 3" fighting games.
You know me Mike I prefer the last good fighting game Def Jam fight for NY.
My wait is over, this is tekkens brother Dural I'm ready ❤
Dural is a female.
@KarlKognition Yes I know, when I said brother I meant Virtual Fighter is the only thing you can compare to Tekken, low key feel like you tried my intelligence an knew what I meant but ok, do you realize she's a female? Hee figure says it all.
@@KarlKognitiv Mind is a terrible thing to waste Karl with a K 😂
@@leonardfairell3397 Ah, you might want to learn to use punctuation! A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
(What a weird thing to add.... There are other languages around the world with different spellings of names and words, by the way. Hence, Karl with a K.)
@KarlKognition Don't need to, an a said you're name like I did with a K just to be funny, just to see how dumb you'd look on this internet trying to play with me. You're repeating what a said about the mind part, yet you continue to waste it. It's almost like you took no steps forward you just sat there thinking my punctuation is off, mean while you're mad cause you still look dumb an didn't benefit from nothing. Now with that out the way I did, I taught you something don't waste that mush of what you consider a brain that was free, 2 When I said you're name like that I already burst the little brain cell that you had so you had to explain yourself an couldn't handle me being smart with you. An another thing it not weird to address someone like that it's actually more professional in certain settings I'd call you an idiot but that would be to generous next time mind your business or dislike or keep it moving.
Can't wait to see your take on the "explanation" NRS gave for the Chaos skins...dunno if you mentioned it in this vid, not finished yet
Didn't catch it. What did they say?
@RealMikeHollow Actually, it's a story explanation behind the outfits stating that Mileena from this season of invasions got the help of Havik to reduce the realm to anarchy...of course Havik isn't mentioned in either cutscenes for this season
That is one of the most absurd things I've ever heard 😂😂
I'd welcome a new virtual fighter with open arms just please, no more versions of VF5. The game has literally been around for nearly 20 years
The fact that this guy claims to be a big fan and used to play VF but struggles to remember the cast name.
For gods sakes, no meter.
I hope they dont dumb down virtua fighter too much. But i know they will have to so they can attract zoomers and casuals to the game.
I hope the game doesnt lose its style and image, even though the graphics and voice acting are cheesy its part of virtua fighters charm
Why won't they just develop a new game?
Sega has refused to give virua fighter a chance for over a decade. They havent gotten better with age either
FGC year
Don’t speak for everyone
I don't care about virtua fighter.. if a new one came out i would not play it..
Lol virtua foghter can't compete with tekken but good luck
I hate to tell you but Yakuza characters aren't that popular. Most people will look at them and just see a generic Asian guy.
Kiryu doesn't hit women
Check the RPG games he's in outside of Yakuza. He is very clearly hitting women.
@@RealMikeHollow one of the creators of Yakuza said he doesn't want Kiryu hitting women, also in Like a Dragon Kiryu doesn't hit Sacchan
I know what they said, but he has hit women multiple times. They also said they don't want him k*lling and yet he has heat actions where he sticks a man's head in the microwave, shoots people multiple times in the chest and throws them into things they couldn't survive from 😂
@@RealMikeHollow I don't remember that, but whatever
What it needs is better characters. They are so boring.
Use a Villian from his Games then
@hurricane7727 even they don't, just the most extreme villains or some random goons and its just a slap not more than that
This has been debunked already, and that creator no longer works at Sega.
This game will never make a comeback
Cap. All the people that have been waiting? Stop hating.
