  • How to get the rear tire up and over a log when the ground is higher the back side of the log and the bike is sitting about level. This isn't easy and when it is damp and slick it is even harder. Here's what works for me.

Point of clarification. Being on the bashplate like this puts a lot of weight on the plate, but not rear tire. When on a log and the bike is angled down somewhat gravity helps to put pressure on the rear tire allowing for some traction. In this case there is no pressure holding the tire to the log and therefore no traction. That is why the push forward is so important to move the tire into the log and once on the log the quick shift back in weight to help the tire hook up.

This is awesome Shawn. This is where I usually put a foot down, but such a helpful skill to have in the tool bag. Thanks for breaking this down.

Thanks 😊. Not really qualified to teach anything major, but hoping the little things like this can help a few of the intermediate guys out. Once my ribs heal up I'm planning to do a part 2 on bashplate techniques 🙂
