    Interesting. In general, I really like it. This is exactly the sort of watch I look for in a daily driver. I really like the general look and I like the shape of the case, esp in profile and I like the crown and crown guards. I like sandwich dials but as you mentioned, I think this watch, at least in this colorway, might benefit from frames. I also think the date could benefit from a slightly larger window and a frame. I do find myself more drawn to the Ascent vs this one, at least based on this colorway.

    This a beautiful and well finished watch. I mean if the index contrast is an issue you can choose a different colour and there you go. For me personally it's not much of an issue. I noticed they used the Danish word for "press" for the toolless adjust button in the clasp. That's a nice touch.

This watch features a sandwich dial, which is a two-layer construction where the top layer has cutouts for the indices, revealing the luminescent layer beneath. This technique not only enhances legibility but also adds depth and a unique visual appeal to the dial. Furthermore it never make use of applied indices. This watch seems pretty nice and a clear step up from their original watch. The lack of contrast for legibility hurts it tremendously for me. I would consider it with a different color that is more legible. I really like the case. The biggest challenge with this watch is the competition. The Erebus is offering an insane value ($200 less at launch price) for their sports watch with better indices, same movement, and some very interesting dials. As well as the Henry Archer Vesterhav which is very comparable but with applied indices and greater water resistance. It does seem that it can compete with both based on the footage making it look very good so if it has a more legible dial option that I like then it'll probably be a buy. It seems like it wears extremely well on wrist and the super thin design is a big plus

    • @NordicMarineInstruments
      @NordicMarineInstruments 9 дней назад +1

      Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate your detailed comparison and understanding of the competition. Our new model does focus on a minimalistic Nordic design, which can affect contrast, but we offer six different dial colors, some with very strong legibility, incl. a full lume model. The higher price reflects our unique MØRK finish technique, which involves intricate polishing and brushing, even on the inside of the lugs, adding to the watch's quality and craftsmanship. Taking a closer look on our watches, you can tell where the price differences come from, we calculated it very reasonably. Furthermore, the bracelet is one of the best on the market with its finish and on-the-fly adjustment system. We hope you find a color variant that suits your preferences and look forward to your continued interest.

    For me, the baton cutouts should have been a bit wider and more assertive, but my main issue with the watch is the quick release spring bars... If the intent is to keep the watch on its lovely bracelet, then you don't need them. If the idea is to allow the watch to be worn on a variety of straps, then why aren't the lugs drilled?

    • @PeterKotsa

      There was a strap in the parcel, I neglected to use it because the bracelet was so comfortable

    • @NordicMarineInstruments
      @NordicMarineInstruments 24 дня назад

      Thanks for your feedback! We're glad you liked the video. As for the quick release spring bars, we understand your concern. While we designed the watch to be worn on its bracelet, we also wanted to offer the flexibility for users to switch to different straps if they choose to do so. And if not, the QR-end links do not disturb the wearer, but it's good to have this option in the whole collection. However, we opted not to include drilled lug holes to maintain the clean aesthetic of the case. Our Tropical Rubber straps and many aftermarket straps, like the Jelsdal Straps from our Founder Mick Jørgensen, come with quick release spring bars for easy swapping. We hope this helps address your concerns! - Cheers, Team NMI

  • @benjaminvis
    @benjaminvis 26 дней назад +1

    It is a very enjoyable watch that looks easy to wear (except perhaps those quick release pins). The two aspects that I think give this most of its quality character are the case profile, with lronounced sharp bezels accentuating the geometry, and that (polished?) metal dividing ring on the dial, which gives definition. Yet, on the whole the watch seems unremarkable, which caused me to chuckle seeing the video footage produced with such a dramatic track under it. That drama does not suit this watch, which seems rather bakanced and restrained. Initially I thought that the the thin markers and long hands just lack a little girth to make this work well. Certainly here that would have helped with legibility. The date is set too deep and the window too tight, and I don't like that the sandwich layer with a white colour is visible just abkve that date layer. Minute detail, but there. Legibility, though, I generally find is good on most watches, so it comes down to more extreme positions or situations in which that plays up. Here the length of markers compensates for the lack of girth. However, I think there is perhaps a sense that the visual balance could have been better. Looking over the colour options, actually the one thay cauhht my eye the most is the pale yellow. The colour plays well with the watch's astute sportiness, but perhaps the much stronger colour contrast from the black just resolves that perception of a lack of visual balance. I'm not sure if it suits me, and the performance of black lume is often critiqued, but on top of everything it makes this pleasant watch also stand out a bit more.

    • @NordicMarineInstruments
      @NordicMarineInstruments 23 дня назад +1

      Thank you for your detailed feedback on the watch. We appreciate your observations and insights.
      Regarding the quick-release pins, our Østersøen collection also features them, and we've received positive feedback from hundreds of customers who find them convenient without causing any discomfort.
      The case profile and sharp bezels are indeed key elements that contribute to the quality character of the watch. We use a polishing technique called MØRK, black-polishing, where skilled craftsmen achieve a flawless mirror-like surface on every visible polished component using diamond paste. This technique, combined with brushed surfaces, ensures a stunning finish.
      The metal dividing ring on the dial provides definition and enhances the overall aesthetics of the watch.
      Regarding the yellow color option, it's actually our full lume dial featuring Old Radium luminous mass. While the performance of black lume is often critiqued, it adds a unique touch to the watch and makes it stand out.
      Once again, thank you for your feedback. We're always striving to improve and refine our designs to meet the expectations of our customers. - Cheers, Team NMI

    • @benjaminvis
      @benjaminvis 23 дня назад

      @@NordicMarineInstruments hi, yes, correct, I since realised the yellow is full lume, so no concerns at all about black lume. What is the black filling on the hands of the yellow? Or are these dual finished metal hands on that variant?
      I certainly agree with the convenience of quick release pins, and have various watches that have these. I was merely picking up on Peter's point that they actually come in contact with the wrist. Personally, I think I tend to be more forgiving of the comfort of watches than some, but I don't have one where the quick release pins sit quite so low. It would be a matter of trying it on.
      Great to know that black polishing was used for the finish. When done well, that does make a difference to the perception of quality.

    • @NordicMarineInstruments
      @NordicMarineInstruments 21 день назад +1

      @@benjaminvis The black filling on the hands is non-luminous black paint mass, and the hands themselves are black-coated and filled with the same black paint as the dial markers. Only the dial itself is lumed of course.
      Regarding the quick-release pins, while they do come into contact with the wrist, we've found that they don't cause any discomfort for wearers. Our Østersøen customers have reported being quite satisfied with the comfort. As for the finish, we are glad that you know and appreciate the brilliance of black polishing technique that indeed enhances the perception of quality. Thanks for your thoughtful insights!

    Even the nebulousness around the pricing alone is a deal breaker for me. Not smart business practice, boys.

      I hear what your saying...
      I suppose they have probably tried to create and air of mystique or intrigue, so in that regard I'll give them marks as Im keen to know myself what the launch price is..they didn't even tell me

      Let's be straightforward: by sharing the pre-order price early, it gets people talking. When the final price is set after the pre-orders, everyone will wonder why it's higher, having only paid attention to the pre-order price, thus complain. Announcing the retail price first and then surprising customers with a lower pre-order price is definitely a smart strategy. - Cheers, Team NMI

    Watch is sold out. What’s the point of brands sending you items for review if a viewer wants to order it!

      Such a clean, elegant but fun looking watch. There are neat little features, bevels and polishes that make it pop as a quality piece. The sky/baby blue dial is just beautiful.
