POEM TRANSLATION:
OSSIAN’S ADDRESS TO THE RISING SUN (BARDACHD NA FEINNE.)
“O THOU that rollest above, round as the full-orbed hard shield of the mighty! Whence is thy unsullied beam? Whence, O Sun! thy everlasting light? Thou comest forth in the strength of thy beauty; the stars hide their motions from our view; the moon darkens in the sky, concealing herself in the eastern wave. Thou art on thy journey alone; who will presume to attend thy course? The oaks fall on the high precipice; the stoney heap and the hoary cliff sink under age. “
(The poem continues, but this was my favourite part)

sgionneil!
Like that! Ancestor style, they knew nature.
Only one question I have. Why not build another reflector behind your bed?
Is not that much work but will give much more comfort.Saw that multiple times on U-tube and always gives me the same wondering.
Fandabi Dozi Psalm 19:4-6.
You, Sir, are a gentleman, poet and philosopher.
Lo, now, the journeying sun,
Another day's march done,
Kindles his campfire at the edge of night!
And in the twilight pale
Above his crimson trail,
The stars move out their cordons still and bright.
Now in the darkening hush
A solitary thrush
Sings on in silvery rapture to the deep;
While brooding on her best,
The wandering soul has rest,
And earth receives her sacred gift of sleep.

I love the fact that there were no spoken words except for the old Gaelic poem, and it was STILL one of the best videos I've seen to this day Tom!!! As being half Irish I can relate to the tradition that you bring to your content. Thank you for your beautiful content again, Tom.
One of the best videos I've seen on RUclips. No need for dialog or music. Just the sounds of nature and beautiful cinematography. Well done Tom.
Right! This video is just stupid peaceful.
Looking back on past videos you know exactly what he's doing and why.
Great video and outstanding poem.
Excellent job!
True! This is what I like about his videos.
'Leave no trace...to prevent your enemies tracking you'
Well, now this video feels slightly ominous
leave no trace... just wet underpants
@@mikobushwacking1982 haha, wet underpants are never a problem for Scots Men! They're not wearing any.
Ach, Tom… this video is what made your channel beloved…
This is what we crave to see.. to hear.. to feel.. to be, dearest lad..
These are your roots.. and the roots sought out by those who seek..
We of Scottish heritage go with you on your travels.. watching you.. learning from you.. appreciating so much the Gaelic poem..
We offer you this prayer we learned at our Mum’s knee in Gaelic.. we use English here..
May it be so for you…
Deep peace of the running wave to you…
Deep peace of the flowing air to you…
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you…
Deep peace of the gentle night to you…
Moon and stars pour their healing light on you…
Deep peace of the Light of the World to you…
Amen 🌹🙏
My sweet husband was very sick all his life.. we prayed these beautiful words in Gaelic together every night.. so helped his pain it did..
We pray it still..
May these words be a blessing to you.. keeping you safe🌹🙏
Slan mo charaid..💜💙
Wow! A beautiful and elegant way to connect with the past and instruct at the same time. Well done, Tom!
Whouwh man, impressive! Very well done video! The more I look forward to next week;)
Simply beautiful. All I can say is please make the infographics bigger and more long lasting!
Thank You! Yeah I will do next time :)
@@FandabiDozi or darkening the area behind the text while it's on screen. Because of the highlights in places it was hard to see the white text, but black would probably have a similar problem. You should be able to set a rectangle big enough to contain the text, set to black then play around with the opacity, maybe around 30-50% to see if that's enough contrast with the white text. And as suggested leave on the screen a bit longer.
It's difficult to put together words to describe this one, but excellent, awesome, beautiful, inspiring, convicting, come to mind. This is probably my favorite video so far, that that's saying a lot. Please do more like this!
Beautiful...
As an Australian with Scottish ancestry I enjoy seeing you re-enact the way of life of my ancestors with such respect for the land and history. I hope to visit my ancestral home some day and experience it's beauty as you have.
Excellent video and what a lovely and simplistic way to live. I lived the old Gypsy horse drawn way of life for 2 1/2 years in my younger day's and loved every second of it. The burdens and expense of modern living is ridiculously unnecessary.
Great video, mister! I liked everything about it: the shots, the location, the awesome details of the equipment, and the way it was used. Just great!
An inspiring video for today times: you don't need much stuff to have a wonderfull time in natural surroundings.
Absolutely brilliant, great video. You’ve definitely gone up a notch or two now.
Bush craft is a perishable skill, and it's always good to know!
I’m just imagining a couple red coats turning up on horseback checking to see if he’s part of a rebellion.
I LOVED this one. great job. my two favorite take aways were the use of your blanket pin. and the technique you use for carrying your roll with the rope. OH and what a great Poem.
This was my favorite video of yours so far! I got chills a bit at the end!
Great video - most evocative and entertaining! Thank you for sharing. ATB. Nigel
Awesome how you flipped the bedroll at the end!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Awww, that really hit the mark, the visuals and the poetry brought a wee tear to my eye... Thanks for a superb video.
Truly inspirational
It makes it feel very authentic to just walk up and do the necessary without explaining as you go. I could really picture someone travelling through in that way, leaving no trace, while being pretty danged comfortable. Nicely done, and beautiful location.
Aye. Nicely done.
Is maith liom dán ossians is fearr! Great film Tom. Ossians poetry really hits the spot. Makes me long for my next wilderness trip in the Wicklow Mountains.
Watching you use the bedroll and a piece of rope to create a backpack literally blew my mind... how creative ancient peoples were.
a total inspiration TOM..........Tha Ancestors are with Ya.......might be visiting tha homeland this summer......Alba gu bràth ......would be grand tah Meet Ya
Great example of leave no trace, great video.
Lovely video and wonderful accent thank you 🙏 for making my day Ed 🇨🇦👍⛺️🔥🍺🍺Drum Rolls 🥁
Brilliant presentation
Beautiful and atmospheric.
Wanted to add another comment as a young child I would go to a large lake in Missouri it's been a couple weeks every year I got to spend a lot of time fishing with my father before he passed in the beginning of the video where you are walking on the shoreline all of a sudden I could smell the water and the shore the sound of the water lapping on the shore was so vivid that it brought smells flooding back to me and those memories of my dad I think that I had blocked a lot of those memories out because it devastated me when he died but I was really glad to get those back. Thanks for the great video and for the memory funny how your mind can do that. Simon
Awesome video exactly how I imagined our ancestors would have done it , thank you for sharing.
Outstanding! That’s how it’s done!
Very effective presentation of mood & timelessness. Thanks Brian 78
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for showing how you pack your bag.
Fascinating!, Thanks, that was a very nice film.
Fascinating, and well done! I was delighted to learn how to convert a bedroll into a backpack, thank you!
Hi.
Good video at all - clothes, items and the way how you do that - amazing. You just reminded everyone - dont forget the roots where you came from and respect whom you are.
Thank you, from Ukraine.
I love everything about this video. One of your very best. Absolutely magical & deeply inspiring...
This video inspired me to learn fire starting with flint and steel. No natural flint in this area (Florida), so I had to buy it. Looking forward to learning a skill that connects me to my ancient ancestors. That's what your videos do. They inspire.
Woow.... that was amazingly beautiful....
What I always liked about the HIGHLANDER'S, is that they Always have there "BOLS" properly VENTILATED, with there little SKIRTS !!!!!......Lol.
One of your best videos old chum. Nature and chill. The poetry was the icing - Well done !!
Fascinating video - it was a nature vid, bushcraft vid and history vid all in one.
Gorgeous videography! Really enjoyed this one. Thank you for leaving no trace!
Outstanding video, as usual, thanks for sharing your adventures!
Thanks so much , love the material, as a reenactor and outdoorsman.
Wonderful, as always. You are an inspiration
Great videos! It would be really good to hear the Scottish Pipes every now & then!! 🏴😉👍
Excellent video.the reading was great. Leave no trace is the only way to go.
Wonderful.Thank you.
Your vids are refreshing. Thank you.
That was bad ass. Well done sir!
Wonderful ! Thank you so much !
The poem and photography ghostly ending, the names and uses of the utensils and apparel all beautifully done ! I'm looking forward to more and will be checking in to your other videos as well !
That area is beautiful.
Educational and cinematic at the same time.
Liked it so much I watched it twice.
I love how you put your bedroll on. That's brilliant. Would love to see what you carry on your belt and keep in your sporran. Thanks for the inspiration. Great video. I've really enjoyed recently discovering what you've produced.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing.
Nicely done, indeed!
Absolutely one of the best videos I've seen on youtube!!!!
Great passion and care, well done!
I have enjoyed your videos. Despite not having Scottish blood, I have done the unspeakable and purchased a great kilt. I'm currently using it for my camping and hiking. It's a solid color to respect Scottish families but have zero regret incorporating it in my bushcraft. I grew up hunting, camping and fishing. This is not to get into that lifestyle, it is directly related to improving it.
Don’t speak a word of Gallic but felt I could understand her whole poem. Seen several of your vids just love them.
Just COOL! Nothing said but I still learned something!
Great video! One of your best! It creates a nice atmosphere. Aspecialy with this poem in this most beautiful sounding ancient Scottish (?) language.
Very well done... enjoyed that.
Brilliant! Thanks for this!
Very well done.
very cool
Very nice, thanks for posting.
This I liked!! Don't know what was said but cool all the same!
Leaves me wanting more, but that's good. Very well done! Good idea on the bed-roll/pack. Le durachdan (with good wishes). Moram taing! (many thanks).
Brilliant video mate. Simple and subtle.
Loved this! Thanks for sharing
..fantastic soul awakening..you Sir, are special..and as you can see from video approval rates that this is so..eclectic for sure..
Very well done!
I hope you get a million subscriber so you can do this full-time. With more historically accurate clothes and tools.
Really enjoyable to watch
Great video my friend! Thanks!
Loved the ending
I Love Your Bushcraft Videos ... 👍☕
You're on the right track! Loved the video, as I do every one of them. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for sharing
Beautiful video. Loved the layering of the images and the poem was perfect. Makes me want to try this - but I'd probably end up wet, muddy and wishing I'd brought a lighter!
When walking with soft or no footwear, use the forefoot strike walking gait, it's easier on your knees, hips, and back. It takes advantage of the natural, shock-absorbing properties of the feet and lower legs.
I enjoyed that video, good location and the Gaelic was a nice touch too. Thanks
A very good little video! I am in America, of partial Scottish ancestry, and love learning of my ancestors. I have a friend who married a full-blood Scottish woman from the New Hebrides islands.
I like the part about leaving no trace for environmental -and personal security- reasons. But if he thinks his enemies might be tracking him, why is he not wearing his claymore?
Great to hear! Haha! Many cos I don't own a sword, but its on the shopping list ;)
Excellent.
Professional level! Your style is a beat unique. You convinced me.... I subscribe to follow you in the future. Cheers from Belgium! ATB. David. 🇧🇪🏕🔥🔪🤠🐗🌲🍄
amazing video, well edited and so enchanting, made me feel as if i were there
Superb.
Absolutely Beautiful! No commentary needed! Best video yet!
Excellent excellent. I was waiting for talking and then after a minute or two I didnt want any. Thats saying a lot
Absolutely wonderful, I enjoyed the video immensely. The innovation, simplicity and multipurpose uses for the items in your kit. Our ancestors had the simple life figured out. The use of a cloak pin for a tripod was a nice touch. The simple bedroll held with rope and essentials rolled up within. No backpack/rucksack. The moss and animal skin for a comfortable sleep. The wool cap pulled down for head warmth at night. It makes me proud to have Scottish heritage.
Thanks very much! I'm trying to capture the simplicity of things. Thanks for watching
Love the idea about thinking about what our ancestors needed to get by in the woods. Love that its very minimalist compared to what a lot of their decedents might need or wish to have today.
Gaelic poem also added a nice touch.
Thanks 👍
Excellent video showing the efficacy of the simple rig used and highlighting the place itself rather than the “gear adverts” we see so much of while some bloke sits at a desk talking at us.
Thank you for making it
