This was one of Gram Parsons' most beautiful songs and it was never very popular. I absolutely love this song and Nora Jones does and an amazing job with this song. She sure can sing.
R.I.P. Gram Parsons & Chris Ethridge. Flying Burrito Brothers for life! I don't give a rat's behind how many people have or haven't heard of GP. I have everything available by Gram Parsons and I will be a GP fan for life!!!!!
While everyone is singing praises to Norah..........and rightfully so, let's not forget the song itself. Gram Parsons was one of the most influential artists in American music. And this is one of his most beautiful works. He would be proud of this version.
My Dad introduced me to Gram Parsons when I was about five or six, I'm now eighteen, and I've never tired of him, I believe it is impossible to! Most of the time covers of songs do not even come close to the superiority of the original, and while this is a completely different version of She, it gives me shivers down my spine just like the original.
Lets also mention the great bassist Chris Ethridge, who passed away last April. He co wrote this song with Gram and played with Gram as a founding member of the ISB and FBB. Ethridge also toured with Willie Nelson and worked on dozens and dozens of recordings as a much sought after studio musician.
Norah Jones is sooooo beautiful both inside and out....The world just simply loves this woman and what she contributes to the music and entertainment world is phenomenal!!! God bless you Norah!!
Norah has such fantastic taste in covers. This is a monster performance of my favorite Gram tune. Wholly different from Emmylou's version, but equally perfect. Gifted and gorgeous with an abiding respect for the American genre. What's not to love.
Norah's dad would be even more proud of her with how her career and life is going....:her talent definitely speaks well of what she inherited from her dad Ravi Shankar. Love her and have for years.
Her talent has literally nothing to do with him. It was nurtured and nourished by her mother, Sue Jones, who has always and likely will always be there for her. Norah was estranged from her father [it's up to her if she ever saw him really as "dad"] until she was 18 years old [from when she was 3] and didn't properly reconnect with her [IMO less famous] father until she was in her mid 20's. By that point she'd already sold more albums and won more awards in 3 or 4 years, than he did in half a lifetime in music. It's insulting and disrespectful frankly to BOTH for anyone to continuously prattle on and say "but she got it from him". She didn't. She got it from inside her, and was helped to realise it by the continuous support of her mother, as well as her own determination. Of that her father Ravi Shanker was undoubtedly proud about. Her talent comes from her mothers side of the "tree" as much as his, however, and lets be honest, all that anyone can truthfully say that she may have picked up [from him] is a greater alacrity to learn. [She takes to music better than many, probably] She got that voice from her mothers side, however, as Sue Jones is said to have quite the voice herself. [Although Sue Jones has dedicated her life to being a concert promoter, and not an active musician]
@@johnmefford2899 I never said "none" of her talent came from him, I said it had nothing to DO with him. There's a difference. I completely agree with the gist of what you say, and there's a kernel of truth in that which I'm not denying. But it's coming from a misguided place. Norah Jones was estranged from her father until she was 18 years old, and didn't properly reconnect with her Indian side until she was mid 20's. The potential of Norah's talent became manifest destiny entirely because of her mum and Norah's own dedication. It was her mum who paid for and encouraged Jones in her lessons, who nurtured her love of music, and it was Norah who put the effort in to making the best of what she had within her, and she got her VOICE from her mothers side. [Sue Jones can also sing from what I've heard] From her father she got a "part" of the potential that she had within her from the get go, but having that part and making use out of it are entirely different things. HE didn't help Norah to become a musician, his only real involvement was during Norah's Not too late album tour [when she had already sold what, 30 million records?] when he attempted to tutor Norah in the Sitar. And that didn't really work out, maybe he was too old, maybe she just wasn't ready, or maybe, just maybe, he would have had more luck at that if he'd been around more for his most TALENTED progeny? That last part was a dig at him and one I feel that he obviously would have deserved.
Well, Norah is clearly the most beautiful woman to ever walk the face of this planet. She also has the greatest voice and control of notes. She also has spectacular piano chops, which you nevet hear her get much credit for. The bottom line ia that anyone this great at something in life, and this beautiful, should be able to do what ever in the hell they want to do. The good news is that Norah appears to be doing exactly that, just she has since day one. Can't wait to see you in Brooklyn in May, Norah! Love you!
She, she came from the land of the cotton The land that was nearly forgotten by everyone She, she worked and she slaved so hard A big old field was her back yard in the delta sun Ah, but she sure could sing, ooh, she sure could sing Then he looked down and he took a little pity The whole town swore he decided he'd help her some But he didn't mind if she wasn't very pretty And deep inside his heart he knew she was the only one Ooh, but she sure could sing, yeah, she sure could sing She had faith, and she had believing She led all the people together in singing And she prayed every night to the Lord up above Singing, "Hallelujah, ooh Hallelujah" They use to walk singing songs by the river Even when she knew for sure and she had to go away She never knew what her life had to give her And never had to worry about it for one single day Ooh my but she sure could sing, ooh, she sure could sing She had faith, and she had believing She led all the people together in singing And then she prayed every night to the Lord up above Singing, "Hallelujah, ooh Hallelujah" She, she came from the land of the cotton The land that was nearly forgotten by everyone And she, she worked and she slaved so hard A big old field was her back yard in the delta sun Ooh, but she sure could sing, my, my, my she sure could sing Ooh, yeah she sure could sing ooh and she sure could sing
This song is otherworldly! Notice the three crosses at one point - Jesus and the two other crucified with him. Also, note that when Norah thanks Gram Parsons at the end how she looks up to the heavens!
She in the Rita college of the country rockers like. Mr. Russell. Wilderness Whalen and Johnny Mr cahs. Es all the lady also. I love old country music. All the way to little little Jimmy Dickinson to the greats of today to. Well I'm getting a little old too. 65 and stiff every day but no my set phn is a pandora phone. Thank you all m. W. Haupt(mann) Mr Blue man and even me. Mr MOJO cooking. Hoop
Norah Jones can do no wrong. After I listened to Norah's version....I went in search of Gram Parsons' version. I like both of them a lot. I listened to Norah's version 4 or five times. Norah can do no wrong!
Great that Graham is finally getting his due dilligence. Keith Richards has talked about him for years. They were great freinds and Graham taught him country music and Keith taught him how to shoot up. You'll find a lot of bands were inspired by Graham...the Eagles, Stones, CSN&Y and many more country artists.
Most definitley a lady in a million - with talent to boot. Beautiful voice, beautiful soundz, beautiful words sung to perfection. Thank you Miss Nora Jones.
This women is powerful when she sings and she makes it seem so easy and effortless . I believe she absolutely sings from the very depth of her soul. Great taste in song! Very warm performance. Lovely back up vocals.”I felt the power”♥️✌️
OH, GOD, WHAT A WOMAAAAAAAAANNNNNNN!!!!!!!!! I'm so in love for Norah, i would give anything to have this sweet wonderful voice singing in my ear everyday when i wake up. She is so most fabulous! I hope someday she'll return here to Porto Alegre to make an concert, this time i'll make everything to be present like wouldn't be possible in 2010.
Emmy Lou Harris covered this song back in the 70s. Can't find it on you tube. I have it on an old Electra Asylum compilation album. Nora's cover is soulful, Emmy's is country. Both are great.
I WISH AND PRAY I COULD SING AND VET A GOOD COMMERCIALLY VOICE. I JUST LOVE HER, I'M GOING TO PLAY AND MAYBE SING HER SONG'S AT MY CAFE, (Reyes Gospel Cafe) love you Norah

This was one of Gram Parsons' most beautiful songs and it was never very popular. I absolutely love this song and Nora Jones does and an amazing job with this song. She sure can sing.

Superb!
230 people who have yet to learn that soul is everything
Norah has a unique charme that makes me feel so peaceful.

I love her style, she is so simple and so beautiful at the same time. Her voice....like angel singing from the stars. So peaceful and thrilling.
Thank you Norah (and Sheryl) for bridging that generational gap and introducing me to Emmylou, Bonnie, Stevie, et al.
Lei è una delle 5 migliori artiste di ogni tempo!!!!🎹🎹🎵🎵❤️❤️❤️
Love Nora Jones! Really good song too, credit to Gram Parsons!
