    When we let our hair GREY naturally, we allow ourselves to become more natural in other areas of our lives too. New make up, hair style, more colour in our wardrobes and more compliments and WHO doesn't like the rise in personal self-esteem?

      @Bink it's amazing how different women can be. I used to get and still do get an occasional hot flush (we dont uses flash in UK English in which I was schooled and is my mother tongue 😉). Because I have Lupus I was told menopause could be a problem for me as I can't use hrt. Luckily I only have to use 5g of cream twice weekly. Putting on weight around my middle, I have to work at just by not eating certain things or not too much of somethings, like bread. It's a very closely monitored item, but I love making breads so I feed it to everyone else. So no real hot flushes, no major weight gain (actually lost some). What I don't like is my skin and hair changing but that's manageable, but the worst I have found was my breast size increased 😭. Even if I loose weight that's the last place I loose, and I hate it! Otherwise I found peri- menopause horrific in comparison. I was a monster to live with. Menopause has been rather kind to me, maybe because my body thought I needed a break seeing as I struggle with pain from Fibromyalgia and Lupus 😉
      Of my five sisters only one didn't have hot flushes but all the others did and also all are struggling with their weight. So besides the larger chest I'm pretty happy with it 😆

      You look wonderful wth your silver hair but I wonder to whom you've been talking to get some of these "facts". I've been coloring my hair since my 20's and now it's almost to my waist. My hair is softer, smoother and thicker after I color it. I use Revlon Colorsilks which is very highly rated yet costs abt 3 bucks a box. I use two boxes every six weeks, takes me abt an hour from opening the box to wrapping a towel around my head after a shower. I use Pantene shampoo and conditioner(ALWAYS on sale!) for colored hair and I love the way my hair looks and feels. Once a year I treat myself to highlights at Hair Cuttery. The stylist I use used to work at several high end salons in NYC. The HC salon visit always include a cut and blowdry. Except for that yearly splurge(even that is only abt $100 plus tip and abt 2 hours), I spend no more than $50-$60 and less than 10 hours in the bathroom. So for around $200 and one work day time wise, I LOVE how my hair looks it makes me feel amazing!

    I dyed my hair for over 40 years. Had it every color in the book. Got so fed up I went to the salon and had my beautician put blond grey highlights so I could grow it out permanently. I could not believe it when it grew out the most beautiful platinum blond white couldn’t be happier. My hair also grew back thicker on my crown where it had previously fallen out. Honestly embrace what you have sometimes change isn’t such a good thing.

    I started lightening my hair back when I was 15years of age, till 17-18.
    than I noticed that I had a patch of white/silver hair in the front hairline since my 20s, that's when I started to dye my hair. changed colours till I found a colour that I loved and could live with...kept that colour for over 20+years.
    Went through cancer and lost my waist length straight hair...brrr, winter was very cold without hair but when it grew back it was very tight curls and a lot of silver in patches along the front hairline....it was as soft as a baby's hair but wasn't ready to let the grey show, so I dyed it.
    but noticed it was growing faster, about 5-6hours after dying my hair I could see new growth the same day.
    I dealt with this for a few years and after 6-7 years I decided I was done dying my hair.
    my hair is healthy, grows faster, I have natural streaks in the front and the rest is sprinkled with grey.
    I have been letting it be natural for almost 5years and I love it...some days it's darker than other days, just depends on how I part my hair...lol!!!
    I call my streaks, my wisdom highlights and I love them. ❤❤❤
    I will never dye my hair again.
    btw...15years cancer free.🎉🎈

    Getting off of the “bottle” nine years ago was the best thing that I could have ever done. Yes, the compliments never stop coming. My gray hair started coming in 44 years ago. Do the math. I’m 60 and 44 years earlier I started to gray (thanks Dad). Once I made the decision to go natural, my hair gets it fair share of comments and questions such as “you are prematurely gray, is your hair painted (???????? on that one) you know that we are just in love with granny hair (?????? on that one as well”. Embrace your grace, it’s such a liberating thing to do.

I'm just going for it!". Two years and 2 months on, can honestly say it's one of the best things I've ever done plus I get tons of compliments on my natural hair colour, far more than I ever did with dyed hair 🙂

    • @monikavarro2020

      @@chrissymac9174 I stopped dyeing my hair 9 months ago because I developed an allergy to the dye so I quit cold turkey. I can tell you the grey hair doesn't make me look any older, it's just a lighter hair colour. It turns out I only have grey hair around the temples so it sort of looks like chunky highlights! I definitely don't miss making a mess of my bathroom every 3 weeks! I'm 46. Never thought I would stop dyeing my hair at this age but once you develop an allergy it takes all the fun out of dyeing your hair. No one has commented about my grey hair in the past 9 months. I don't think anyone cares based on my experience! And I've discovered it only looks grey in strong sunlight. Indoors it just looks brown. I'm not going back to dyeing my hair.

    Letting my hair grow out, was the best thing I ever did. My hair was dyed bright red. So bright red, with grey roots. I loved growing out, watching the grey grow longer and longer,and the red shorter and shorter, till eventually the last cut and I was all grey. I love my hair, people think I've had it coloured, or streaked. It's been five years now. So well before it was trendy to have grey hair. So, my advice is just grow it out. You'll love it. :-)

    I joined the Silver Sisterhood about 18 months ago. I had shoulder length dyed to original auburn color. Got tired of the constant dying. I started using temp color every 4 weeks for about 6 months until I had about 2 inches of new hair that the color would wash out of. I cut it all off to a very short pixie and stopped the temp colors. After 1 year my hair is now in a bob at chin level all natural with a great silver and auburn blend. I get stopped and asked constantly how I got the silver highlight blend. I just laugh and say I cut it all off and let it do it's own natural thing. I am loving my beautiful silver hair.

I will use hair bands and scarves to cover up the grays as they grow longer. At some point, I can go back to the hair part. I intend to keep my length. I am retired so I do not have to be so concerned with my appearance during the awkward stages. Best wishes to everyone.

    I dyed my long hair until it reached a critical mass of gray. My plan was to strip the dye out and go natural. Alas, apparently red dye doesn't strip and I had long hair. I went with a major chop to about shoulder length and one final dye with foil - 33% red, 33% natural brown, and the rest no color at all. It was a good way for me to skip the skunk stripe without a buzz cut. Now I rock the silver and I'm never going back. I've even been asked if the silver is a dye job!

    Always dyed my hair since, i was about 15 , went grey early as 25 , for year and years i colored . Until one day, i got a very bad allergic reaction from a product, I used all the time with no problems prior .tried others with same results, injurious reactions and now at 55, just going to stop . because the next time could be the last on a bad reaction . Many folks have gone to hospitals with life threatening chemical reactions . the (Price of vanity is NOT worth your life,or your health .) My hair was originally dark brown, so I have gone blonde and I love it. Have had numerous compliments. My sister has blue eyes and looks fabulous in grey hair. Blue or green eyes can do grey hair.

This vid makes me feel more confident about it...I also wear it extremely long, down past my waist, which I thinks challenges another stereotype that women of a certain age should cut their hair..love the fact that women are embracing their silver...after all, we earned every strand ;)

      It's crazy how women are told how to wear our hair(length, color), what to wear at what age, who to date, etc. My new motto is to do the things that bring me joy as long as I don't hurt myself or others. I am learning that what others think of me doesn't matter. I cared for way too long. Approaching 50 has made me take a look at my own judgments and try to let them go. It's a process.

    Wow, some really heated comments in here! I'm a hair dresser, and I think ppl should do it when they are ready but be aware as the years go by they may want to change shades, or even go with off the scalp foil to blend in with the gray as it grows in, also to avoid putting that chemical on your scalp. It goes right into your bloodstream you know...

      Hi. I have hair that has been thinking quite a bit on the crown. I have dyed my roots for many years as the dark color lessens the thinning that emphasizes the scalp. When you quit using due how long did it take for your scalp growth to show healthy thicker hair.??

    • @moname56
      @moname56 4 года назад

      Ranter Redhead I really can’t say. I did use pre-natal vitamins mostly for my weak nails but that may have helped my hair. Now I use a hair, skin, nails vitamin though my nails still look terrible. I just think dye is generally harder on your hair and scalp and when you stop the health of your scalp improves. If you’re thinning still, I would use Caboki brand fibers. They work great! Comes in all colors, including salt and pepper and white.

      Helena Lennon gahhh I’m 37 and have been partly grey, always getting more grey, since I was 16. I always end up dying hair before interviews or when I start dating a younger man, but to stop dying the transition is the issue. I can go two months in between because the grey isn’t concentrated at my part (because I wear an unnatural side part), But of course then I have two inches of grey at temples and in middle of scalp. If I could get through the transition I think i might stop dying it all together. Though there’s a chance it would make me look older and I’d dye it again. But I am curious to try!

    • @helenalennon9528
      @helenalennon9528 5 лет назад +1

      I think it may depend on the color you are dying your hair blond is easier to transition but mine was brown and I let it grow for as long as possible then used a lighter color each redo until it all matched.

    I really needed this video today. I have been stressing about my hair which is 8 months of very grey growth and I've been fighting with to dye or not to dye. (Please God no) when I've came this far. So I'm going for the chop next week. My dyed hair at the middle to ends has literally died anyway. It has also been falling out a lot either due to meds i was taking or stress. I have fibro and am currently off work. When I did dye my hair I usually done it at home and the pain of trying to colour and rinse it would get me so sore and stressed. Constantly chasing the dreaded white line. Hopefully I like the short look and don't faint when I see myself in the mirror. 😲 I'm 43 by the way x

    My problem is that my natural color is a very dark, unflattering brown. I'm 76 years old. I have only a little sprinkle of gray. My natural dark color is aging and drab on me. I'll probably never have beautiful silver hair. My parents both had steel gray hair late in life. They never went lovely silver. I have light freckled skin and it looks best, sort of comes alive, with light reddish color. So my choice is to dye it reddish or let it be an aging, ugly, natural dark, dark brown. You gals with silver are lucky!!!!

Then maybe I’ll get some nice highlights but not go a full over colour. It’s not worth it! I’m excited to see my natural hair colour... as I have no idea what it even looks like.
