They used an abandoned cathedral as a base of operations to house viral test subjects........imagine all of that trying to sink into the mind of a 13 year old lol. This was always my favorite mission. The whole cathedral setting really stuck with me for some reason
Here's the thing, from what I remember, the cathedral wasnt abandoned. Rhomers group took the monks hostage and used them as test subjects while also assuming their identities (that's why they are in monk garb.)
its the song that makes it memorable and the way its presented as you being dropped in from above and have to go deeper down to the catacombs to rescue someone.

This mission is the first thing that comes to my mind when i think about this game. The cathedral and the song at background...its just hard to forget.
With all the covid19 stuff, this game plot was the first thing that came to my mind

This game is my jam. Even to this day, this is my favorite story-based game.

The music changes at 6'... rhythm slows down and the "seek" song starts again... Great concept.

What's funnier is you can crouch walk through them and it still breaks the glass.
Using a chandelier to kill to birds with one stone is pure genius. I did this in 007 Quantum of Solace and saw this on the Cleveland Show. A clever trick.

The music in this level and level design is something I have always remembered about this game. And the Girdeux boss fight.

You can kill a henchmen if he's standing near one of those toxic jars, just shoot it and it will explode on him and make him sick.

I loved this game the first time I played it. I was 11 and now I'm almost 30 and I still love it.
4:48 he throws a gas grenade through the window and it doesn't break. He runs through the window, it breaks. xD
That's a pice of brilliance, I've never known that you can go for a stealth in this mission.

wow, a gas grenade being thrown into a room won't break the glass but you running in will shatter it in seconds

Looking back, this mission was the start of Gabe's longest day. After finding Phagan and rescuing Lian, which is a long, difficult mission if you're playing for the first time, Gabe immediately sets out to Khazakstan and fights through the firefight between Rhoemer and Phagan's men, the Pharcom Elite Guards, Rhoemer's missile base, Rhoemer who was invulnerable to all firearms, before meeting with Lian at the airport.
Then the Agency attacked.
Aside from surviving multiple missile attacks, a parachute jump off a crashing plane, an Agency blockade, a bridge wired to blow, a speeding train firefight, there was also the worry about Lian who was abducted by the Agency the last he saw her, keeping his men alive, and recovering the data disks from Archer.
Logan went through the final part of Syphon Filter 1 and the first part of Syphon Filter 2 in one shot without sleep! That man just would not quit!

My childhood's screaming back, now I'm over 30, I'm working in Distribution Centre in Poland, a lot of Ukrainian people's working here and I was asking for cathedrals in Uzhorod hahaha, unfortunately no one knows

this game took place in post cold war Alternate Universe combined with real life organizations as well.. of course several cities were different from the real life version.
Do you seriously think they had laboratory that produced a deadly virus in New York??
this game combined both fictional elements and real life event.
e.g. The Agency and Black Baton were fictional, Afghanistan desert guerrilla in Syphon Filter 3 was based on Mujaheden in cold war, also SVR existed in Syphon Filter 2 and NSA and MI-6 existed in Syphon Filter 3.

@@HonestFarmerLigue1Fan i think that man meant that he lives in Uzhhorod Ukraine but don't remember that a cathedral like this exist in such a small town in western Ukraine besides this cathedral looks more like a typical Western European cathedral like in example UK, Germany or Italy.

Syphon Filter 1 has creepier levels and atmopheric. Scary story if you truly understand it.
Syphon Filter 2 has better enemy encounter, pacing and story.

Everyone talks about remake but really, this game was actually illogical and unreal, like 4:50 throwing grenade through glass door or shooting the chandelier and soldiers 10 metres away dont hear it 😂 except that, I love the game
