  • Come and join ol’ mate as he cycle tours the 900 km off road Mason Trail stretching from Blinman in the Flinders Ranges to Adelaide, the Capital City of South Australia. This trip has it all…suspense, drama, heartache, misery and most of all; a sense of achievement.
    In this vid, ol’ mate is forced to continue his journey due to having nowhere to sleep. He tops up the battery and then starts making his way down the steep descent toward sea level and into the outskirts of Adelaide. With no Motels in sight he has no option but to continue into the city in the hope he can find a room to rest his weary bones. He made it! Now, time to get some rest. Job done!
    Grab ya gear; Lets go!

      @@mongreldogproductions I remember finding your video "Cycle Touring Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand" 7 years ago. At the time I'd been living in Thailand and had hoped to do something similar. Not long after passing away in 2021, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and I've been fighting that ever since. BTW, Adelaide has some of the best cycling infrastructure in Australia.
    Not the highest bar I know, but it’s pretty good.
    A bit of local knowledge goes a long way of course, but it’s an easy place to ride generally.
    The tour down under starts this week and there are literally tens of thousands of cyclists from all over the world here now.

    Well done for doing the M.T. I felt knackered just watching....With the Tour Downunder on here... everyone is cycling mad.... other months not so much. I cringed at some of the drone shots.... you're directly under the flightpath for RWY23 for Adelaide airport.

      It was an honest mistake. The side of the river I was on had no notifications about drone use. When I crossed the river I noticed signs indicating a no-drone zone. Oops. I do keep it below 120 metres.

    Enjoyed the series, thanks. A pity you didn't continue on the Linear Trail all the way along, it's a beautiful bike path all the way into Radelaide. For others looking for accommodation near Lobethal when on bikes, a simple Google search would find pub accommodation a few ks away in Woodside, or a bit further in the other direction in Mt Torrens which is at the end of the Amy Gillette riding trail. Or Cudlee Creek, Hahndorf etc etc. I reckon you could've pitched your tent at the Loby oval, they're a pretty friendly mob there. Happy travels!

      Also, for interstate riders, it's perfectly legal for cyclists to use any footpaths at a safe speed. I think in NSW it's only kids or adults with a child in the child seat. Not sure about other states.

      I knew about Hahndorf...wrong direction, unfortunately. It wasn't a deal breaker. No harm done. Thanks for commenting.

      Where would you like to go…
      I’m thinking of cycle touring South Korea later in the year. Before that, I have a mini adventure on the DR650, I’ll be riding from Canberra to Coffs in May on the R1200, a 4 week 4WD trip in June, a long motorcycle adventure it the Kimberly on my R1200 and I’m sure something will come up in the meantime to fill in the gaps. So much to do; so little time.

      Wow your amazing. And I'm here planning a Munda Biddi ride thinking thats good but then I have a few more years on me than you. Got to keep oneself on the go or else it catches up to you. If I can still be riding anywhere near the 90year old you tracked in this series I'd be a happy man.

    Excellent viewing. What size battery are you using? I bought the largest I could get for my e mtb, 900Whr. With about 10% pedalling with no assistance I can get about 130km to the last bar of on the display. Loaded up would of course lower that but probably get close to 100 km. The size of the charger is a pain.

    • @mongreldogproductions
      @mongreldogproductions  10 месяцев назад

      500Whr...Its not my bike. It belongs to my son, Trevor. I didn't know you could swap out batteries for something bigger. Maybe that is an option down the track. The standard battery for this bike (Giant Fathom E Pro) is $1,400AUD...ouch!

    Hi I’m not one for writing lots of comments but just wanted to say I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this series (my wife too!). Also enjoyed your Philippines trip and the biking. What an amazing country you live in and what an amazing part of the country where you reside? One thing I wonder for a country full of snakes we never see one on the biking vids - where are they all? Thanks mate from a cold -5 England Tuesday 16th Jan!!

    • @mongreldogproductions
      @mongreldogproductions  10 месяцев назад +1

      Wow, thank you! 😊 As far as the snakes are concerned, as long as you don’t go looking for trouble, they will leave you alone. Once they feel vibration thru the ground (from footsteps or in this case the tyres) they will head in the other direction. I cycle 20km most days around a bike path near a lake. During springtime, it is not unusual to see snakes warming themselves on the path after hibernation. They can be a bit sluggish to get moving but they will do what they can to avoid human contact. If there’re cornered…different story.
