This has been a great series of videos. It really demystifies the process for someone who is thinking about buying and building from a kit. Thanks for taking the time to document the process.
Cleaning crankshaft and flywheel - clean the good with break cleaner or carb cleaner to make sure there is no oil on either one of them, otherwise your flywheel can shift on the shafts and break the key. I have done it several times on smaller saws but not since I started cleaning them throughly.
Hi thanks for the videos I just built a 660 kit from China using your instructions first chainsaw I’ve ever built I’ve only ever used one once and it was a success just need to adjust the carburettor a bit but it runs I have a very happy husband
The extra mounting hole is probably for a ground jumper from the case to the coil. Clamshell saws need them because they have plastic cases but on metal cases you do not need them. You can add a short jumper from that post to the coil if you desire with no adverse effect because ground is ground.
On flywheel side there are extra threaded holes to mount a stater and to support hand-warmer components. On right hand of handle there is a location for hand-warmer switch, has pictographs molded in plastic.
Checked out farmer tec last night on line. Now i see why u buy those kits. Lots of time on and don't know how much an assembled after market saw would cost verses the real McCoy, but for under 200 bucks getting a 900 dollar saw,,, hell,, no brainer. Long as they hang in. Fun hobby too. thanks.
Flywheel nut torque. The torque on a husqvarnav is 25 foot pounds and Walt uses the same spec for the MS 660 or hit it a couple of times with an impact wrench. I do the latter.
Just so you know, you put those dog bolts in wrong. The bolts go from the inside out. I have that same setup on my MS361. Also, the chain catcher roller goes on the outer dog.
3 years later? would you would you say these kit saws are a good cost efficient option for someone clearing and maintaining their property? I have a variety of timber (pine, oak, and cedar)
Matthew Olson I’ve watched your whole build series and it’s been really interesting to see it come together, I’m mainly looking for something to take the place of my small “poulan 4218”. For last 3 or so years limbing trees, clearing brush and cutting the occasional tree, it has taken a beating and I’ve had to replace parts fairly often. I want something a good bit larger that I can tinker with but will be fairly simple to replace parts and keep running. Thanks for your content and speedy response!
stevencroon I tried that...but for some reason decided it was the wrong direction. the husqvarna 394xp has the nuts on the inside...also...either way the bolts stick proud. ...figured the bolts were closer to flush on the outside and less likely to snag on something. ...thanks for the comment though. ...you may indeed have the right answer
I hit mine a couple of times and then checked it with my torque wrench. It broke on 25#, which is about the specified torque for these nuts. I did not hit it real hard, just enough for it to know I meant business.
Great video, would have loved to see it running for a little longer to demonstrate the difficulty idling not using the OEM carburetor. Thanks for your contribution.
I Picked up a 070 clone 265 dollars shipped >..> I had to slap myself in the face to stop myself from buying another 660 clone I really am having a hard time not buying another one at 216 dollars shipped The 361 and 440 clones scare me only ones that seem decent are the 660 372xp and maybe the 038
You're talking about a 1300 dollar saw for 216 dollars and a little bit of work maybe under 300 dollars if you're lucky If you beat The crap out of it for a year You would be way ahead of the game they say the plating isn't good on these saws I Just don't know I Can't wait for the ms200t clone that should be pretty good
Matt, send me your mailing address and I will send you my extra chain break spring installation tool. I could not find it, so I made an extra one. Now I have two because I found my original tool I built for the 029.two years ago.

Glad you enjoyed it

thanks Jeff! nice comment
I use my drill to take T27 bolts out but they always go in by hand. HELICOIL are a pain to put in.
Not dust covers bro, they keep the rubber expanded so it don't pop out
lunchbox138four nice. ..tx

Peter Ford yup....and ya learn a lot....for cheap :)

i really don't like using an impact on the flywheel nut. I much prefer the torque wrench, but thats me :)

Yeah I figured out the dog bolts later
...but the roller seems fine on the inner. Either way....tx for the comment

They are fun projects for sure. I'm still fiddling with mine. The 660 is the best bang for buck out of the kit saws for surr

Put the nuts on the outside of the clutch cover and the heads will be flush on the inside.

you are missing the Winter summer mode block off plate.
i think many of these were missing that lol
it was normal to start it

Plenty of guys do running vids. Am carbs are hit and miss. I put an oem carb on mine now.
That was fun!
30% off all kit saws fathersday only 5 days left huztl

OTAlucard I have the 360 and 440 clones here ready to build....so we will see how that goes
I'm having piles of restraint to not pick up more 660 kits....2 or 3...what the hell for??? I dunno hehe
