I’m sure being an influencer takes a good amount of work and drive. I don’t think anyone is denying that. However, the difference is the payout. One sponsored ad could make an influencer as much as someone makes in a whole month or year. Not to mention if an influencer doesn’t want to take a brand deal or project, they have the privilege of not taking it if they don’t want to. Whereas those who work a traditional job do not have that choice, and we go to work every day, regardless of how we feel or if we’re exhausted (which we are). This is where it feels out of touch.

Exactly. I think they’ve been away from a normal life for too long that they are forgetting people work 40+ hours or have 2 full time jobs and still don’t have a liveable wage.

Yup and ppl keep saying that she is allowed to complain and have her struggles. But its the way she said it. We would have understood if she had just complained about her work but she starts the video comparing her work with everyone else who works normal jobs. Saying how we would not handle it. Yet there are so many strenuous jobs. Sort of showed no empathy and I think that's why ppl also gave her back the same energy

Dude I was just coming here to say this and like yes I have to work for “the man” bc I have kids who have to eat and bills that have to get paid. I don’t even really make it paycheck to paycheck anymore. And to sit there and complain like that when.. if influencers want to, they can take 2 months off bc of their mental health… andddddd that’s not an option 😂

Nah. No matter how much money she makes off an ad, I rather work a corporate job. Marketing yourself has got to be one of the most exhausting and difficult things you could do. And it’s true only very few people get to reach that level. I’m 110% on mikayals side on this. I never got offended at her comment no matter how bad I had it at jobs. I would never and COULD never be an influencer that is a difficult job!

Regardless of whether you work or don’t work, every single one of us has hard days. We are all free to express this. Mikayla is allowed to say she’s had a hard day as much as she likes. People need to stop trying to control others because that’s what it comes down to the end. People are trying to control what she is and isn’t allowed to say, think or feel. Screw those people.

Manny! I was a PA for a very successful Production Accountant in Hollywood. A trial period is 100% the norm. When you’re working so closely with someone and essentially running their life you have to make sure is a good fit in so many levels… work ethic, morals, socially, communication, etc. Anyone worth while will be okay with a 30-90 trial period.

  • @misha-zeegrant1077

I think its really important for influencers to be honest about how difficult it is. I see so many young people aspiring to be an influencer, not realising how hard it actually is. A little like aspiring to be a 'popstar' in the 90's but no one realised they lived on buses, never ate and never slept, and also didn't get the money the record labels did! 🤣 I work a normal 9-5 job, and I look at influencers and thing it looks like wayyy too much hard work. I also see lots of smaller influencers who obviously looked up to you guys at one point and now have really bad mental health problems because they didn't realise how hard it was going to be.
Also just because your life isn't as hard as someone else's, doesn't mean your feeling aren't valid! You can appreciate your privilege while still having a hard time!

I can’t explain how refreshing it is to hear Laura say that when she has an assistant & she’s like learn from me and I will support you in your dreams! I have worked for so many people that literally are so unsupportive of you doing anything but working for them and it is really fucking hard so I just have to say Laura is an incredible person and boss to just be supportive of what people want to do most people probably don’t wanna assist or work under someone their entire lives, which is totally fine if that’s what they want to do but why not just be supportive and not make someone feel bad for trying to Complete their goals in life

The fact people think their job to hold complete strangers accountable is weird in itself. All it is is bullying and trying to excuse their own bad behavior. Anyone who bullies aka cancels, has worse behavior than those they criticize. They need to hold themselves accountable.

Why makeup is so “cancelly”.. totally agree with everything you’re bringing up, but also my skincare at night is almost like a meditative thing, so is my makeup in the morning. I KNOW I’m not the only one. These routines are way more personal to us then just a kitchen gadget or something. If I’m grabbing someone’s product everyday as a part of my “pull myself back together” moments, no I don’t wanna see peoples companies or names who are ruthless. It’s a sliding scale but too faced is a tough one for me.... 🤷‍♀️
Really loved this episode. And the accountability and honesty. Influencing IS different from a 9-5. But it’s okay to have bad days.

I feel like people glamorize the influencer job because they only see the payoff and not the work behind the scenes. I do makeup posts on Instagram for myself and that has opened my eyes to how difficult it can be so now I know I wouldn’t want to be an influencer. Money is not everything. I am so grateful for my corporate job that allows me to relax and disconnect and have time for myself. If you work for yourself you gotta hustle in order to become successful and I’ve tried it, it’s exhausting and mentally draining and I’m so glad I don’t do that anymore. Just my perspective here.

    • @yanapetrova706
      @yanapetrova706 Год назад +1

Agreed 100%. Not saying one job is worse than other. There are pros and cons everywhere. But I just started a fitness channel, and to give good science-based content I have to write a full 2000 words essay and go through so many articles, film and edit, post all by myself. It occupies you 24/7. Ppl have no idea how much time it take to upload. Write descriptions, study what RUclips wants, tags etc.. and then you get like 30 views.. whereas when I had a corporate job, after I left the office, I’d completely switch off. Or on vacations..
Anyways, I don’t think creators job should be disregarded just because they can choose when to work. In fact they can’t. It’s a 24/7 job..

I also think it’s important that when you’re the boss that you can’t expect your employees especially newbies to be mind readers. What seems straightforward to you or logical may be different to someone else but again it can be situational. Also, clear communication of what you want done is so valuable.

People need to stop apologize for these "minor infractions of being a human" and the folks who are belittling someone's bad day by comparing it to someone else's bad day should be the ones taught a lesson. “Cognitive empathy,” sometimes called “perspective taking,” refers to our ability to identify and understand other people's emotions, and we need empathy and sympathy for the person no matter if you consider it trivial or extreme. To them, in that moment, they are having a bad day and if you want to try and lessen their feelings then it's a you problem not a them problem.

Empathy. Real people have empathy and those are the ones that know shit happens and are open to seeing people learn from their mistakes. Look at Robert Downey Jr. I remember when I was really young he was in and out of court for so much shit. But look at him now. He’s pinche Iron Man and lasted so long in the franchise because he’s worth it for who he is now. Y’all are so relatable and that’s why people stay your fans. Shit happens and you grow from it.

There’s no question that relevant people are held to higher standards. When you’re in a top spot in any industry there’s very little room for mistakes. There are a ton of people waiting to take your spot at any minute so that’s why it can seem like people expect perfection from people in those top positions. This is ESPECIALLY relevant for influencers who have the job of *influencing* people for a living… if you’ve done something shitty it tends to be blown out of proportion because people won’t want you in the top position influencing people on a daily basis

Critical thinkers are huge in your company! I think it is so important to ask the right questions in the hiring process. As someone who has hired at so many levels, the types of questions asked are so important. It is so easy to lie about how you have handled situations in the past, or idealize how you would handle a situation in the future. Loved hearing your conversations around this issue.
It sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime to work for you, Laura. I think to allow someone to grow and develop, and support them to achieve their goals - HUGE! The more you allow someone to grow and true responsibility, the more they will add to your company. Wishing your new assistant all of the best - sounds like she will truly grow not only as a professional herself, but also your brand, Laura.

I love you guys so much!! I don’t have TikTok so I’ve only seen a few of Makayla’s videos on RUclips and I didn’t think what she said was actually that bad. The internet mob grabs their pitchforks for the most insignificant situations and I don’t like cancel culture. It’s sad to see people tear down other people when they don’t actually deserve it. I would imagine that someone could struggle doing her job and vice versa.

Exactly. Plus she blew up on TikTok is less than a year - went from graduating school to having a following in just months - so I’d expect that to be stressful 😬 I think people just want to get clout from tearing other people down cause it “feels good”

Cancel culture is so far away from what I want to be as a human, that the thought of the whole culture is so heartbreaking. I want to be able to understand different perspectives, I want to just give people grace and show some empathy. This era can be so cruel but I refuse to join all of that. I wish people would sit down and think about how words can affect human beings before writing or saying anything.

The other thing few people have talked about is with Mikayla’s video is it wasn’t just complaining she was responded to a comment that told her to get a real job and trying to defend how hard she was working.

Also she just turned 24!! Can you imagine a new platform..and so many brands reaching out...the amount of work nobody sees.. they only see "free stuff" or getting paid for your opinion.. yes that is the perks of this job..it also does not stop after you research, film, edit, post, answer comments.and that is only on 1 platform... Enjoy you both and not only for your creativity with makeup..but also taking what you have learnt and creating products that are well received... and I personally enjoy too!. thank you for sharing ALL!

Can I just say that I applaud you (all of you famous influencers) for your hard work. I work full time in a hospital and I'm trying to create my own RUclips channel too, and I am having a hard time finding balance with everything...but I love it! And I want to make it happen, so I'm going to push through. You have to start somewhere, and I just appreciate you for your influence on me to be more creative! Much love!

Just cause someone isn't like that doesn't mean you make fun of it... sometimes there's reasons that make it tough for people to think like that and sometimes they do need the help of someone else. Doesn't mean they can't be a fantastic worker!

I loved the conversation on cancel culture! I’m not a die hard mykayla Stan but I like her and follow her. I’ve absolutely hated seeing all the hate she’s been getting and I’ve even unfollowed accounts like Dustin daily and nick snider because of their relentless attacks on her. It’s not about accountability it’s about revelling in someone else’s misery. I’m not giving any more of my time, attention or views to people like that.

Has anyone ever thought maybe that their own marketing or publicist team were the ones digging up stuff? No publicity is bad publicity. They have nothing to lose. If the influencer can’t overcome cancel culture then they move on to prey on someone else. Money could make people do the unthinkable.

I personally think Mikayla should never have had to deal with this. Someone made a snotty comment to her “Try working a 9 to 5 job” on a video from years ago and she responded. She had every right to respond the way she did. She works 6am-5pm almost everyday, plus more work we don’t know about or see. Also, people forget that she has worked her fair share of 9-5 jobs. She’s wasn’t being delusional. She was just saying that being an influencer isn’t as easy as people think it is. Her “cancellation” was total BS. I stand by that!

That’s ridiculous to want to cancel her over that, taken way out of context. I’m so sick of this woke cancel culture. People are so bored with their own lives and need to make drama out of nothing. Do these peoples feet hurt from jumping so far to these conclusions. I’m so tired of this crap 🙄

If you could only keep ONE video, which would be the most sentimental and valuable to you? 3. If you could only put one video in a business portfolio, which would you choose? I think it would be super interesting to hear your answers! ❤

It drives me crazy when ppl bring up things that happened in the past! News flash EVERYONE on earth has said or done something wrong at one point. You can either learn and grow or repeat it over and over. For someone who ALWAYS stays stuck in a pattern okay yes I get it. But if you had a bad moment one day. Move on people! Lighten up spread kindness and your personal life will actually feel better.
