Great overview. Thank you
Thanks for another informative video!
Thanks for making this video, been waiting for it and excited to watch it!
Excellent overview of the sector, thanks Sven. It's a sector I've wanted to invest in because I like the tech, but haven't yet been able to find an appropriated long term investment, for many of the reasons you outlined.
Glad it was helpful!
Good morning Sven!
Thank you a lot for your analiysis! Very appreciated! ❤❤❤
What abou FMC you deal with some months ago. Is still a buy, althought the worst prospective? Thank you in advance😊
Hi Sven, good report on the overall solar sector. I mostly agree with you about the uncertain future and high valuations of the solar sector. But I have to pinpoint ENPH. Unlike most solar companies inverters arent just a commodity as you said (semiconductors stuff isnt easy) and thats the first reason why the multiples look much higher,. Than SEDG it's a competitor but in the solar community, especially in US between installers, ENPH is way preferred, they make very good products and since every inverter converts DC into AC its very easy to expand your "house solar project". I think in 10 years when most people are done buying solar panels most of them could still need ENPH to build/expand their systems. They are also lagging in eu and worldwide compared to SEDG but I think they will win the marketshare even in all markets. I'm not saying it's an absolute buy if I were to pick just 1 solar stock, it would be ENPH because it feels Moat-ish, no surprise to see that many analysts coverage...for me under 90s is a relative buy, grabbed some shares months ago and hopefully some more if the upcoming Quarter isnt stellar.
Think twice before you buy solar stocks, given God doesn't ask you to.
I am potition in xinyi, i've keep buying the dip. Big growth, nice dividend, not that expensive. It's not for everyone but one of my holdings
Great video as always! on a tangent, i was wondering whats your take on the liberty media and sirius XM merger situation - Both Warren Buffett and Seth Klarman are invested
Thank you, Sven! I found this channel recently and my impression is of very grounded realistic view that benefits yours viewers. Thank you! Thank you! :)
Great job Sven!
Oh man, that was a pretty good video. I assume one of your better ones, very smartly presented.
Thank you for the detailed video Sven.
Thanks a lot Sven for the great job done on this sector analysis!
What do you think about scatec solar that you invested in earlier?
From my observation and historical market pattern, there might be a bit of turbulence in the market coming up, but here's the deal: Trying to guess what's going to happen next is less important than spreading your bets when trading and thinking long term. It's not about guessing the market's next move; it's about playing it smart and steady...managed to grow a nest egg of around 100k to a decent 732k in the space of a few months... I'm especially grateful to Linda Wilburn, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.
She's often interacts on Telegrams, using the user-name.
@Lindawilburn
Trading with an expert is the best strategy for beginners and busy investor s who have little or no time to monitor their trades.
It was quite challenging to understand the different trends on my own until i found out about Wilburn. Trading made easy.
Jinko Solar was missing from this analysis as well as the topic of perovskite solar cell which ever company can scale perovskite solar cells will be seeing astronomical growth. Kindly some more in depth research on the tech would have been welcome.
Hey Sven, I've been following you videos for a long time and I currently invested in BABA shares since your China Investing Video. Can you please share how you allocate capital when you have more than 1 good buying opportunity in your portfolio? I'm a long term investor and I have missed out on major moves like META at 180$/share because of this...
Many thanks
Buffett bought more SiriusXM and it is still going down. Pls make a video on it Thanks
First :) Thank you for making RUclips videos I learn so much from your videos and the more I learn bc of videos like yours the less I fear to invest my performance reflects it I’m beating all 3 indices this year so far
Any thoughts on LW stock. Big discount now.
Sven, thanks for your analysis. It would be great if we can look at oil stocks as oil prices seem to go up due to geopolitical uncertainties.
Two interesting stocks to look at - Ecopetrol and Petrobras with 27% and 19% dividends and P/E 4
Petrobas is the best buy i've ever done, 2 years when it had a massive sell off, the yield hit 75% i bought there, just the dividend has already paid my position, and it has almost double too, probably never going to exit thay posotion with those yields.
True, and I think it is still a buy
Why didn't you cover Canadian in this one? I didn't even catch its name mentioned at the end. Is it just because you have already made a video? Or does it have to do with your assessment of their competitive position?
I see you found the vid!
Thomas Carper, the chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee has just invested over 100k into the Ishare Glwobal clean energy ETF in 29th of March. Although 100k might not be that much but I think it's a pretty good signal.
What happened to your mic Sven? It sounds different.
Thank you very much :)
Used own nxt and somd it when i got a nice profit of if, this stock was less ridky ib my etes because they are selling the software mostly and not the hardware.
Which after my research they are the market leader and not much competition.
I do agree i would stay away from solar producer that make the hardware because of too much competition and china flooding the market with bargain prices
Thanks for the Videi again. Just a question is your child okay, heard coughing at the back
Interesting thing is which way trump will go on solar. Its a green technology, so he may reduce or eliminate subsidies. But also china is flooding market, so he may increase tariffs.
Water utilities? Always seemed crazy expensive now just kind of expensive.
I had found ARRY on my own and although numbers are good, qualitatively not much moat / advantage, maybe not a fabulous business. Don't like how rate sensitive solar is.
UNH at a PE of 17x on the other hand... it took a perfect storm to roll that into such a crazy value relative to its history.
Solar sector is uninvestable. It has become such a commodity, with literally hundreds of players, with little to no moat of any sort for everyone.
@6:00 great points Sven. You are investing in a capital-intensive business, which is entirely growth-oriented and requires the latest cutting-edge research and equipment, in a sector where prices almost by definition will keep declining YoY... it's kind of like owning a bad utility stock in the short-term... all the risk of a growth stock and none of the dividend yield of a utility, though... On the other hand, I'm convinced solar investments will pay off in the long run. However, I'm not convinced they'll pay off in MY lifetime, so it's too risky for me...
My impression as well.
What I don't understand is, if its so cheap to buy these panels, and the energy prices are stable and growing according to my bills, how come they are not making a ton of money out of this?
I think it is more of an investment question: when are you getting back your money.
At 5+% interest rates, 10+ years to get back your money is not a great investment.
This is when reality meets fantasy. Government hype coupled with corporate greed.
Very tough competition, and quite high valuación of solar stocks
@@Hyper1555 I mean, meanwhile lots of the US stock market is trading at P/Es of 25-30, ie 25-30 years to get back your money. It doesn't make much sense.
I think a lot of it has to do with cost of debt, which is probably the same as what you are saying. Many of these companies (and/or their customers) are financed with debt upfront to make huge installations, and then those are expected to bring in revenue over time. That model is naturally extremely interest rate sensitive since the interest will destroy your profits.
Im a renewable energy policymaker and MSc. Its about a massive increase in electricity infrastructure costs, the costs of grid maintenance and electricity flows.
In previous times the majority of your energy bills consisted of the cost of production of energy. This was directly linked to the price of the commodities that delivered energy (fossil fuels).
In the future the cost of maintaining the grid will be the vast majority of the energy bill while production will become practically free.
I currently own a malaysian stock who is a supplier to first solar, made good returns
which one?
Hi Sven, videos about such a competetive market like solar isn't interesting, basicaly no bying options. Would like to see video on wide economic moat stocks!
What's the point ? Any amount of channels on those type of stocks.
@@johnristheanswer the point is to find stocks to buy (i hope it is the purpose of the channel and overall investing idea). No point in reviewing stocks and entire sector with no future due high competition and low margins.
@@johnristheanswer sectors with less competition and higher margins: software, semiconductors, health industry. I watched a alot of Sven's videos but i find little to no analysis of economic moat and i think it it the weakest part of this channel
I think the apetite for EHS is gone now. Companies will focus on make money and not be politically correct...but I will keep one eye. I might be wrong
Next era energy?
If you and others install panels because they are chips, does that mean solar companies will increase their revenue because of higher demand?
So its probably better to invest in chemical compagnies that suply these markets also alluminium, copper producers would benefit more, electrical component suply. thinking about dupont, solvay, norsk hydro, rio tinto, TE connectivity.
If I owned my roof i would have put solar on it long ago, but now im stuck with getting shares in a company doing it.
Oh man , cant believe Enphase bring up how their average call wait time dropped .... is this a out of time april fool's joke??
Can you value Stellantis?
Thanks for the continuous update! I am super excited about how my stock investment is going so far, making over $10,000 weekly is an amazing gain 😁
that is stirring! How do you manage to achieve that weekly please. I watch lot of RUclips videos on learning but I keep losing
I used Robert Layla's beginners strategies due to my full time job it's the best decision I've made in the last 2years
That's mind blowing I always say it as a new inventor Never claim to know: Ask questions and it's best you work with a financial advisor
Making money is all about investing in the right way most investment failures and losses usually happen when you invest without a proper guide.
I know Layla, she has really set the standard for others to follow, we love her here in the UK as she has been really helpful and changed lots of lives. The very first time we tried, we invested$2000 and after a week, we received$10,500, that really helped us a lot to pay off our bills
🗽 I prefer the conventional energy sector. It is valued cheap and the oil demand is high for many more years to come.
.
Yes!! Looks super cheap at first glance
Has never made sense economically to install solar panels. Return is tiny when all costs are factored in.
Makes sense for commercial premises with a large amount of roof space - the payback time can be as short as 3 - 5 years. Even for residential, if you get a government subsidy it can make sense and pay back in a reasonably short time. Once you have recouped your costs you effectively get some of your energy for free and can even sell excess back to the grid in some cases.
Zero interest rates was a major driver for solar. If that era is over, that's another negative for solar
Thank you! I was planning on investing into Solar before I listened to this. Terrible business. Always trying to lower costs to get business. It will all depend on government subsidy and governments are looking to get lean. Republicans just don't care.
There must be companies that get profits from solar panels low prices.
Of course, it makes construction costs lower for companies building the solar farms, some of whom will sell them on and some who will continue to own it and sell the energy. So renewable energy infrastructure investment trusts for example - some in the UK will get involved at the construction stage (higher risk, but higher reward) and then continue to own and get an annual income as well as any capital appreciation in the asset. In the UK there are a number of renewable energy infrastructure investment trusts on high discounts to their NAV and with high yields (because their share prices are low as they are very sensitive to interest rates). But they make reasonable profits, particularly the ones which get involved at the earlier stages, rather than just buying already constructed solar assets.
Too commoditized.
